I think we don’t talk enough about how important Captain Charming are in “Murder Most Foul”.

David insults and belittles Killian to his face no less than three times - “If I wanted advice, I doubt I’d take it from a pirate” “What I might have to do [Emma and Snow] wouldn’t approve of”-”But you think I would?” “You spend your whole life as a thieving pirate and the one time I need you to be that guy you get cold feet” - and pretty much asks him to lie to Emma so that he can cover up the fact the he “borrowed” something from her…

And in the end, he apologizes because he understands he was wrong - but the narrative doesn’t paint it as horrible. It just shows a man who was sorrowful and distraught and did a few mistakes because of that. It doesn’t blame David nor sugarcoat Killian’s reactions. Killian is hurt by his words, and we see it, but he doesn’t allow his hurt ego to get the best of him. He tries to convince David to not fall in the same pit Killian fell in the past, but understands that his reasons are valid.

And then, that freaking scene.

Do you realize how important that was? A man cried, out of despair and grief and anger, literally bursting out in sobs and kneeling because he couldn’t handle the emotion. And another man who was just his friend comforted him. There was no “toughen up and be a man”. There was understanding and compassion all because they were friends.

And it’s great and huge because you rarely see that kind of a scene between two men. They were allowed to feel upset but there was also acknowledgement of where the limit lay. Killian swallowed his (significantly less but still) hurt feelings for his friend’s sake and David apologized for hurting him, and in the end it was all well. Things like that can happen between friends, it’s a part of healthy human relationships as long as it’s resolved properly.

I believe that no matter what anyone’s opinion on OUAT is, we should acknowledge that they did great in that above context.

A Surprising Revelation in episode 3x04 “Nasty Habits”

When David asks how Hook was able to leave Neverland before, Hook’s answer is a surprise: “Aboard my ship, which would require some form of magic to create a portal, which… I got from Pan, in a deal I don’t think he’s ready to repeat.” Hook keeps his head down as he speaks, obviously less than proud of the fact that even he couldn’t leave the island without Pan’s help.

Fandom crescendo: Persistence

Bringing out a dash of Captain Charming now, for @scribblecat27‘s fandom crescendo movement. Also, it’s Captain Charming Friday, so I’m tagging @youstabbedmedave.

summary: just Killian and David having a beer, talking about failed True Love kisses, suitors for daughters and wedding traditions. Set vaguely after s4.

rating: G and CC for Captain Charming
