a lot of fic rec lists focus heavily on long fics but here’s a shoutout to short fics they give so much snack-size joy i hate how writing short form is sometimes looked down upon it has its own challenges and deserves so much more respect and love because a well executed short fic can ruin your life in 20 minutes
Help, I have fanfic ideas incompatible with the amount of free time that I have.
Things I have started writing or intend to write:
- Wan/Pleng (Affair) fic about "4AM"
- Wan/Pleng (Affair) fic about pretending to be sleeping
- Four/Jattawa (Reverse 4 You) anti-soulmates fic
- Aylin/Luna (23.5) future fic where they're broken up but reconnect at Ongsa and Sun's wedding — I even wrote all the dialog already, just need to build the actual fic around it
- I still want to do #imodnovember (Critical Role) 😅
And then Pluto got me thinking about May/Oon, and whatever the heck Jan/Phim/Pang have going on.
Pros of re-reading your own fic
- a good time;
- Has exactly the tropes you like and the characterization you want to read;
- Gratification: yes you did finish a thing and yes you did do good;
- just a very fun time all around.
Cons of re-reading your own fic:
- Is that another TYpO
Everyone's all sad about Affair ending (another great phrase to be taken out of context!), but like no one's making you leave? You can still post and talk and scream and cry about it? Make your gifsets, draw your fanart, write your fic, rewatch the show to find new nuances and things to explore. Don't give in to the fast fashion mentality of fandom. It's ok to like something that's not current and not trending.
I'm not leaving. I've written more than 2 fics for Wan/Pleng, which means I've basically adopted them. I still have that file on my computer with the fic ideas, and I still want to write those. So stay tuned.
Oh, looks like I'm close to another milestone
You flatter me! I'm just happy that people enjoy reading my words. I can't ask for anything more. 💖
You can find all my (pretty much exclusively wlw) work on AO3 at: https://archiveofourown.org/users/leet911
The current obsession is Wan/Pleng (from Affair TV series), but I've also written Four/Jattawa (Reverse 4 You), Lada/Earn (The Secret of Us), and Sol/Jiwan (Nevertheless) from a couple years back. Bonus points for anyone into Warrior Nun (Ava/Beatrice, Mary/Shannon) or Critical Role (Imogen/Laudna, Beau/Jester, Keyleth/Yasha, Keyleth/Fearne, yes I went there) or that obscure girls with guns 2001 anime Noir (Mireille/Kirika)
The pure fanfic-ability of Reverse 4 You is insane. All the timelines Four and Wa had together where her dad rewrote the past. Dozens of meet cutes, first impressions, first dates, first kisses, first times...
And it can all be "canon-compliant" or canon-adjacent at the very least. Who's to say your take didn't happen in one of the reversed timelines? As I've said before (usually about Terminator, but it still stands), this is a time travel fandom, we don't let a little thing like canon stop us. 😜
I need to make one of those "I watch it for the plot" Affair posts but it's just all the times Wan and Pleng look at each other. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the kissing, but if the show had all the staring and longing I know I would still be writing fic about them (where they kiss). But if you took out the yearning and left the kissing in the show, it would feel empty, and I probably wouldn't care about it enough to write anything.
If your ship doesn't make you yell at the screen for them to kiss, what even is the point?
Is the universe trying to tell me something? In some coincidental twist of fate, I'm getting into these Thai GL series around the same time @thisweekinfandomhistory does an episode about absolutely bonkers RPF fandom shenanigans (it's about One Direction, so the most diametrically opposite to anything I've ever been into). And yet, every time I get brave enough to venture onto Twitter, I see the absolute conviction in the way people speculate about the actors and their co-stars.
And look, I don't care if people want to RPF ship. It's just not my thing personally. So I think I will stay in my little corner of tumblr and write my silly little fics (about the characters, not the actors). And yes the ask box is still open, and people can always send in prompts, but I make no promises to write any of them, and if you send me an RPF prompt I just won't write it (no hard feelings).
Oh, it looks like there's a canonical fandom tag on AO3 now: https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Affair%20%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%81%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%A5%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%A5%20|%20Affair%20(Thailand%20TV%202024)
Tumblr doesn't like the link though (you'll need to copy & paste), probably because of the Thai characters in the URL
your affair fics give me so much life. thank you 🙏🏾🙏🏽🙏🏽
Awww thanks nonny! Glad I could help! 💞
Ok, without really noticing, I've somehow managed to write more fic in the last 3 weeks than the entire 8 months prior this year (thanks AO3 stats page). And I know it's been a rough year for me health wise, so that definitely plays into it, but these Thai GL series have got me in a death grip.
Ummmm I think I'm the first one to post an E-rated fic to AO3 for Affair the series, and I don't see how this is possible? Are people even watching this show?
What I should be doing: sleeping
What I want to be doing: writing my fanfic
What I'm actually doing: shitposting on tumblr about how I'm not writing my fanfic
Me seeing people reblog my G rated Wan/Pleng fics, while I'm working on my next (decidedly not G rated) one:
Random question for my fellow Affair the series fans: Does Wan still call her "Khun Pleng" after the time skip? I don't know any Thai and I don't have the ear for it, so even rewatching the scenes where she says Pleng's name, I can't tell (it could be there, or it could similar sounding words, I have no idea). I'm also curious what the expectation would be in this case. Is the honorific tied to birth, and no subsequent fall from grace would change that?
