we’re doing things a little differently for our 2nd annual MARCH MADNESS: QUEER BOOKS EDITION bracket this year — we’re letting YOU have a say in the nominations! last year’s underdog pick HUNGER PANGS: TRUE LOVE BITES by @thebibliosphere wrecked the competition in every. single. round. will it be another year of the underdog, or will a tried and true queer classic run away with the title?

choose your fave gay books from our Libby collection and leave the title in a comment on our instagram! nominations run until the end of february. and in march … THE MADNESS BEGINS.

p.s. nominations & voting on instagram, if you just make a nomination here we can’t guarantee it will make it in

p.p.s. book eligibility = it’s in our collection! however, titles from last year’s bracket are not eligible for this year

my friend's book comes out today!!

[ID: a lavender book cover with two white women in Victorian gowns giving each other side glances and holding hands. The title reads "Don't Want You Like a Best Friend" and the author is "Emma R. Alban." end ID]

A swoon-worthy debut queer Victorian romance in which two debutantes distract themselves from having to seek husbands by setting up their widowed parents, and instead find their perfect match in each other—the lesbian Bridgerton/Parent Trap you never knew you needed!

I'm so proud of Emma!! If you like queer historical romance like The Queer Principles of Kit Webb, you should pick up this book.

yeah i know we all hate gender binaries but don’t worry guys THIS binary that is related to gender is different. THIS system of classifying people as one of two things based on some aspect of their gender is fine don’t worry. this one’s never going to have transphobic or intersexist implications bro. this time it’s totally fine and correct to try and separate the complexity of the human experience into two categories. trust me bro. this is a GOOD gender binary. trust me

Idk who this guy is but I’m just gonna leave this here without comment and hope the audience I’m indirecting it at finally understands something for once

Text transcription for easier reading:

Usually I wouldn't address stuff like this but I feel like it as a conversation is bigger than me. I'm not gay; but I think the culture of trying to "find" some kind of hidden trait or behavior that a closeted person "let slip" is very dangerous. Overanalyzing someone's behavior in an attempt to "catch" them directly contributes to the anxiety a lot of queer and queer questioning people feel when they fear living in their truth. It makes the most pedestrian of conversations and interactions in spaces feel less safe for our gay brothers and sisters and those may be questioning. It also reinforces an archetype many straight men have to live under that is often times unrealistic, less free, and limits individual expression.

I've been very clear about the intentionality I try to put into using my platform to push back against those archetypes every chance that I get. Being straight doesn't look one way. Being gay doesn't look one way. And what may seem like harmless fun and conversation may actually be sending a dangerous message to those struggling with real issues. I refuse to inadvertently contribute to that message. Happy Pride to all of my queer and questioning brothers, sisters, and individuals. I pray that you feel seen in ways that make you feel safe in the celebration that is this month. As an ally I continue to be committed to assisting in that where I can and helping to cultivate a future where we are all accepted and given permission to be ourselves.

since regrettably most of my followers aren’t vietnamese, i’d like y’all to know that the vietnamese language is pretty moderately gendered, most of our honorifics are gendered, so nonbinary vietnamese people have been creating their own gender neutral pronouns like by combining “chị” (girl older than you) and “anh” (dude older than you) into chanh, but chanh is also the word for lemon lol. so for a short while lemons became a symbolic nonbinary thing, but some nonbinary viets were like hmm we don’t like how that pronoun is defined by a gender binary so they created a new pronoun, “cam” which means “orange” like the fruit lmaoo

I will defend low-quality queer media if only because non-queer people get to make shitty low-quality media all the time and nobody gives a shit.

Queer people deserve to make shitty art as much as anyone else, god damn it. We've been censored for so goddamn long and I'm tired of every piece of queer media needing to be the height of representation and art and quality.

Queer media won't have achieved true equality with straight media until queer people can make garbage in peace.

"define queer" literally part of the point is that it's supposed to escape definition. it's literally supposed to be undefinable and uncategorizable. That's literally the power of it.

First-Ever Giveaway for One of Our Titles!

Are y'all familiar with Storygraph? It's the independent alternative to Goodreads, a lovely website that does a lot of what Goodreads does, but without the whole "being owned by Amazon" crap. It's been running for a while now, and we've been on it since the minute we found out about it (and got a paid account as soon as they offered them - $40/year to support such an amazing project? Heck yeah! Not that anyone has to give them $$ to be clear, the site is free to use). They've been steadily expanding, adding functionality, unrolling more publisher- and author-oriented features, and generally being awesome. And, with all that in mind, we were thrilled to hear that they were introducing a Giveaways function (which, on Goodreads, is often a great way to get the word out about a book), and we jumped on the chance to offer our debut anthology Add Magic to Taste as part of the very first run of Storygraph giveaways!

But enough about them - what about the book we're giving away?

For Add Magic to Taste, 20 authors have come together to produce all-new, original short stories uniting four of our absolute favorite themes: queer relationships, fluff, magic, and coffee shops! Our diverse writers have created an even more diverse collection of stories guaranteed to sweeten your coffee and warm your tart.

So, check out Storygraph if you haven't already, and check out our giveaway and the other awesome titles on offering (such as our own A. L. Heard's Choose Your Own Adventure story), and enter to win your own copy of Add Magic to Taste!

The giveaway is running until October 18th, 2022, so if you want to throw in your hat for one of the 10 digital copies on offering, this is your moment!

(and signal boosts to help spread the word would be very appreciated. <3 )

oh god the bisexuals are visible oh no i can see all of them they’re all beautiful and wonderful in their expression of gender and sexuality oh god i love them all so much it’s too much for my human brain to handle i was never built to comprehend such an important and valued part of the queer community i’ve never been so aware of bi people before

damn this bload up. may i add: bi people of color & a(ro)spec bi people: you’ve got my whole heart and support today and everyday. you’re incredibly important to the queer community and your experiences as bi people deserve not only to be heard, but to be upheld.

I truly love how queer can mean "Eh I'm some flavour of Not-Cishet but I don't care to know the specifics beyond that" but also "I absolutely do know the specifics but we will be here all damn day if we get into it" and like. Everything in between. I think that's incredibly powerful of us tbh.

at least tumblr hot takes are written by an overwhelming majority of just weird nerds and teens who don’t hang out with other gays… on twitter you can stumble upon any unbelievably bad opinion and discover it was written by an nbc showrunner who married the ceo of a startup that converts rental properties into oil wells. like at least nobody here has money or influence

I absolutely adore that mouse movie analogy omg
