“That looks painful.”

“It looks infected.”

“Yeah I was going to lead up to that, but…”

“Feels like my leg is gonna fall off.”

“Can you put any weight on it?”

“Jesus.”

“Okay. What if I help?”

“Absolutely not.”

“I won’t tell anyone.”

“Enemies aren’t supposed to ‘help’.”

“We can’t fight if you’re dead. I don’t want that to happen. You don’t want that to happen. An enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

“So what are we frenemies now or…?”

“Just get up.”

Pros of re-reading your own fic

  • a good time;
  • Has exactly the tropes you like and the characterization you want to read;
  • Gratification: yes you did finish a thing and yes you did do good;
  • just a very fun time all around.

Cons of re-reading your own fic:

  • Is that another TYpO

The thing about writing is,

I write to heal myself. I write because I love it, because it brings me joy and happiness.

But, I share my writing in the hopes that, just maybe, it can heal others too. Maybe the right person stumbles across it, and now I’ve brought my own joy to others.

I know I have, and that makes sharing it worth it. Because I know at least one person has read my words, and has been even a bit better for it.

Writing is healing to me. I can’t imagine a world in which I don’t write.

Floor Time

@whumptober Day 10: BLOW TO THE HEAD | Slurred Words | Passing Out from Pain | "I can't think straight."

For @sofasurf who asked me to write for this prompt by @lawrencespen1777. Thanks for the excellent prompt!

Warnings: Collapsed building, Head injury, Fainting, Seizure, Concussion.

~

Virgil hit the floor like a…well, like a tank. Alan swore that he felt the ground vibrate. But he didn’t really have time to consider it because he was too busy covering the distance between them.

In that short time between him going down and Alan reaching him it looked like Virgil was having a seizure. It wasn’t long, less than a minute, but it was worrying enough.

Alan bit his lip as he contemplated what he needed to do, what first aid he needed to give. Damn, Virgil was the medic! He thought over the rescue the day before where the probable injury occurred…

“I’m worried about you. You haven’t been right for days.”

“I told you I’m fine. Why don’t you believe me?”

“Because you keep telling people you’re fine, but you can’t lie to me. I know you.”

“You worry too much. It’s just a pulled muscle.”

“You can barely walk. I see you wincing.”

“It only hurts sometimes. No don’t- don’t touch it.”

“That’s really swollen. You can’t keep walking on it.”

“I can’t just sit around.”

“It’s blue. Sit down or I’ll sit you down.”

“you’re a writer, can you explain your process?” yes. first, i panic. then i procrastinate. then, in a fit of productivity at 3 a.m., i create chaos.

reasons to write fanfiction (I'll start):

  • share a cool scene that popped into your head
  • evoke a particular emotion the canon makes you feel
  • song made you think of a character or idea from canon
  • make people feel the same way about a character you do
  • make dolls kiss for fun
  • explore ideas the canon hints at but doesn't do anything with
  • traumatize characters and make them suffer
  • coddle characters and let them rest
  • had an insane idea for a crack ship and now everyone needs to know
  • the author of the canon was wrong and must be fixed
  • use familiar characters to explore your own ideas and plotlines
  • canon is too short and you need to wallow in the universe of the story

“Any better?”

“Yeah I’m okay.”

“Are you sure? You’re shaking.”

“I’ll be okay. It’ll stop soon.”

“It looks really bad. I still think we need to go to the ER.”

“No not yet. Please. Just give it some time.”

“It could be infected. It’s so swollen you can barely walk.”

“You’re pale and your hands are all clammy. Please. Let me take you.”

“I don’t know.”

“We don’t have to tell anyone. We can go back to hating each other on Monday.”

“…okay…okay let’s go.”

When you’re writing an injured character, let’s say a broken arm, a nice little tip is that an injured person will literally carry themselves differently. Arm held out to the side a little gingerly, or conversely, held to their body protectively. Elbow not quite fully straight, and they won’t swing their arm back and forth as they walk like they would with their healthy arm.

sometimes i think that we overlook how BORING it is to be sick or hurt. being unable to focus on TV, too nauseated to read, too tired to keep up with conversation. and i love caretakers who try to alleviate that. to keep them company even if most of what they're doing is sleeping. caretaker who takes whumpee home and sticks around after both to ensure that whumpee doesn't need anything and to show them that someone cares enough to make sure they're not going out of their mind with boredom.

Let's talk hallucinations in whump/general fiction.

So first off full disclosure, I have schizoaffective disorder - think some bits of bipolar and some bits of schizophrenia kind of squished together, and as such hallucinations are a BIG part of my general existence.

Definition: A hallucination is a perception of a sensory experience—such as sight, sound, smell, taste, or touch—that appears real but is created by the mind and lacks an external stimulus.

Now, I see a fair few "hallucinations" type prompts in whump events, and just generally within the whump community, and I see a LOT of auditory hallucinations type prompt fills - mainly in the form of malevolent whispers - and ye that's a thing, but there are so many other hallucinations.

The thing is hallucinations can effect literally any sense, not just hearing - though I will add that auditory is usually regarded as the most common.

this is a long post so I am going to put a cut here... below the cut is exploration of the tyoes of hallucination, the causes and a bit about insight.

Marry Me pt 3…

“Marry me?”

“Hmm?”

“Marry me.”

“I’ve been…asking…for weeks…and you pick…now?”

“I’ve changed my mind. I’m allowed.”

“I just wish you’d d-done-done it-.”

“Shhh…it’s okay. Don’t talk.”

“Hard to…breathe.”

“I know…um…they’re talking about intubating you. So your body can rest, you know? They think it’ll help bring your temperature down too. You’ll feel a lot better.”

“Will you stay?”

“For better or worse. In sickness and in health. Isn’t that how it goes?”

“Something like…that.”

“You’re going to get better. We’re getting married.”

“I know…”

“I won’t leave you.”

“…I know.”
