a/n: it’s currently 3am and all i can think about is eren jaeger -birdie

knocking on his door at 2 am, no warning, no explanation. him, hair disheveled, emerald eyes weary. reaching for his keys without a word, zipping his track jacket all the way up to his chin, hopping into his hooptie of a car. him driving, no destination in mind, no radio, the soundtrack for the night: comfortable silence. you’re in the worn out passenger seat thinking, soon jaeger, we’ll be out of here because we were always destined for greater things, while watching your sleepy little town fade out of view.

still, no words being spoken as you’re reaching quite a distance from shiganshina, the smell of smoke assaulting your noses, the hunk of junk sputtering to a halt. so what better thing to do at this moment than to be sitting by the side of the road, telling each other all of your deepest secrets, your darkest desires, your future aspirations? hours passing by unnoticed.

and just as the faintest hues of dawn begin highlighting his features, you’re telling him that despite all that’s happened between you two, you only ever want him to find happiness in life. and he’s telling you that he hopes someday you’ll be happy too. because you’re a lot alike, eren and you. alike in the way that everything is just so much. passion. determination. loyalty.

and ultimately, you were right in recognizing one another as soulmates, but you were wrong in thinking that it was in the romantic sense.

Eren x Reader Joy (Modern AU)

summary: the journey to school had never been so enjoyable than when you went with your boyfriend

The knock on the front door brought a smile to your lips and your eyes shimmered in delight as you slipped your shoes on. Slinging your bag over your shoulder, you jogged to the door and opened it with a radiant smile, mirroring the one your boyfriend owned.

He flashed a toothy grin at you, his nose painted in a red hue as a puff of cold air appeared when he greeted you. A maroon scarf that you had gotten for him was snuggly bound around his neck to protect him from the cold, and his hands were tucked into the pockets of his coat. Brunette hair tied up in his usual man-bun, the stray strands dancing with the gelid winter air.

"You ready, angel?" he asked, and when you nodded, one of his hands leaving the warmth of his pocket to reach out to yours, entangling his digits with yours.

After you closed the door behind you, both of you made your way to school, a comfortable silence surrounding you two as the crunch of snow destroyed the silence.

Then, you felt Eren's hand slip from yours and saw him crouch down from the corner of your eye, assuming he was just tying his shoelace. But, then, something smacked your back with a thud. When you turned around, your boyfriend was chuckling at your shocked and annoyed expression.

"Eren!" you exclaimed.

"You got a little something in your hair and on your jacket," he teased.

A glare was sent his way as he continued to laugh, running ahead of you when he saw you gathering snow in your hands to form a snowball. You chased after him, waiting to be close enough to him to assure that your snowball would hit him. And once you threw it, it came in contact with the back of his head, some of it falling down the back of his shirt, causing him to shiver.

Nearly the whole of your walk to school was just you and Eren having a snowball fight, laughs mingling together and smiling until your cheeks hurt, both of you covered in bits of snow in your hair and clothes.

It wasn't until you were only a few minutes away from the site that you both halted your snowball fight, and instead, brushing the snow off of each other. When Eren got all the snow off of you, he pressed a soft kiss to your cold nose, shining a little smile at you.

It was quiet again before Eren decided to kick some snow at you. You attempted to do the same, only to trip over your own feet and slip on the snow, expecting to collapse on the snow. However, muscular arms looped around your figure before you could fall. Your eyes were screwed shut, waiting for the impact but when it never came, you opened your eyes to find yourself gazing into teal ones that gleamed with so much affection.

"Careful now, babe. We don't want you getting hurt."

The brunette stood straight, keeping you in his arms until he was sure you were steady. And even after that, he kept one of his arms around your waist for the rest of the walk. And for the rest of the way, you couldn't help the grin that smeared over your lips because of the amount of joy you felt, even though you were just walking to school.

But it was with Eren, and anything you did with him brought you joy.
