Even after leaving her behind in Paradis without so much as an explanation, even after the carnage and chaos he had unleashed on Marley, there she was, peering at him through the bars of his cell with as much adoration as she had always held for him. His eyes, however, were cold, lifeless, unblinking as he stared back at her.

She reached her arm through the metal columns tentatively, to place a hand on his bare chest. “Please say something.”

“You’re the one that came down here,” he spat menacingly, “Doesn’t that make you the one with something to say?” His unexpectedly harsh tone felt like a slap to her face. She recoiled, arm falling back to her side, but nodding at his insinuation nonetheless.

“I just wanted to see you, Eren.” Her eyes scanned his, desperate to find any remnant of the light and passion they were once full of, and the soft fondness they once held towards her. “I missed you.” Sadly, his eyes remained unchanged - dark, and void of all emotion. 

She reached into her pocket, feeling around for the brass key that she had been given moments prior by the Commander. “I’m not even sure why they’re keeping you in this cell when you could very well break out of it at any moment,” she breathed out a mirthless chuckle as the lock clicked open.

a/n: it’s currently 3am and all i can think about is eren jaeger -birdie

knocking on his door at 2 am, no warning, no explanation. him, hair disheveled, emerald eyes weary. reaching for his keys without a word, zipping his track jacket all the way up to his chin, hopping into his hooptie of a car. him driving, no destination in mind, no radio, the soundtrack for the night: comfortable silence. you’re in the worn out passenger seat thinking, soon jaeger, we’ll be out of here because we were always destined for greater things, while watching your sleepy little town fade out of view.

still, no words being spoken as you’re reaching quite a distance from shiganshina, the smell of smoke assaulting your noses, the hunk of junk sputtering to a halt. so what better thing to do at this moment than to be sitting by the side of the road, telling each other all of your deepest secrets, your darkest desires, your future aspirations? hours passing by unnoticed.

and just as the faintest hues of dawn begin highlighting his features, you’re telling him that despite all that’s happened between you two, you only ever want him to find happiness in life. and he’s telling you that he hopes someday you’ll be happy too. because you’re a lot alike, eren and you. alike in the way that everything is just so much. passion. determination. loyalty.

and ultimately, you were right in recognizing one another as soulmates, but you were wrong in thinking that it was in the romantic sense.

Holy shit Lue I loved every single minute of this. I’m so emotional rn. You’re a phenomenal writer and I was literally CAPTIVATED by this and it felt like I was actually there. I will treasure this for many years to come and I love you oh so very much ♥️♥️
