Certainly that episode, with Rick and Michonne, and also the relationship with Carl, I thought you learned so much. There was so much breathing space in that episode. It was really compelling. It was one of the first times Rick had even attempted to crack a joke in three years. Everyone was on set going, “What’s Rick doing? He’s trying to make a joke? Is he flirting?” I think there is a deep connection between Rick and Michonne. These are people that find it very difficult to trust other people, and they’re loners, I think, fundamentally. They recognize each other and respect each other. – Andy Lincoln on episode 3.12, “Clear”

Get to know me meme [14/15] Favorite TV Shows: The Walking Dead We do what we need to do, and then we get to live. No matter what we find in D.C., I know we’ll be okay. This is how we survive: We tell ourselves that we are the walking dead.

I mean when he knelt down, and he thinks that it’s her, she’s gone, he’s broken,“ Lincoln said. “He’s broken again. But, you know, that’s why the strength of what she gave him enables him to answer Negan and say, ‘You’re all already dead. I’m never gonna…’ This is the power they have over Negan: the fact that they have this incredible bond between this family and now, an extended family, a civilization. It’s pretty much what you saw is what Rick was feeling. And the interesting thing is in spite of that, he’s strengthened by her. He said it a couple of episodes back, ‘If I’m the one who doesn’t make it, you’re going to go through it.’ That’s how important it is now. It’s not like the Governor. It’s not like the Sanctuary. This is about ideology. This is about choice. It’s about freedom.
