Today used to be a hard day for me. But over the years I let go and decided to focus my love and energy on the people that are still in my life.
So on this day, I say it’s okay to distance yourself from toxic people, it’s okay for you to focus on your mental health instead of allowing toxic people to hurt you just because of external pressure saying filial relations are more important than anything—more important than your well being. It’s up to you if you want to cut toxic people out of your life, it’s also up to you if you want to try and reach out. Don’t let others guilt you into putting your mental health at risk.
So a completely ironic and fucked up Happy Mother’s Day to all of us that don’t have mothers out there, to those of us that have strained relationships with our mothers, to those of us with painful memories and deep hurts about our mothers, to those that hate this stupid day and most of all, to the caregivers and dads out there that stepped up when our moms didn’t.
Take care of yourselves today, be kind to the ones you love and make sure they know how much you love them.
