Ehhh I guess I might as well post these. Outfit concepts, some rougher than others. Half of them are just monochrome and half actually have an actual color scheme of sorts going.
Children!
It used to be that I wanted the Tauric to lay shark-like egg casings, but this time around I've decided to go this route.
Like the image says, the eggs are laid in small batches and are very insect-like. They're pretty soft but harden into a tough, leathery consistency within an hour or so. After that, they're tended to in communal nurseries, and as they incubate they become more like insect pupae, the shape belying the embryo inside. They also get weird and twitchy the closer they are to hatching.
"Hatching" is very similar to ecdysis, the egg casing splitting along the back and the neonate emerging backwards out of it. Their coloration is dark and grey, and as they age they get slightly more vibrant and their markings thin out.
The young are fed by their adult caretakers (either their actual biological parents or the other adults in their units), and taught communication beyond their instinctual body language, "hand-eye coordination" with their palp-arms, and other important early life functions.
Fawnbug baby preview…
I guess that’s my next area to mess around in with my Tauric aliens. :v
Casually doing gesture/vague outfit ideas for my tauric aliens. The top two are some kind of formal/fancy wear, and then there's riot/tactical gear because...? I just kinda went there while doodling a mask set-up.
Originally that gesture in the middle-right was going to be showing off some fancy-wear but I needed to actually figure out the fancy wear, so he stayed a gesture and I just used the images from the initial sheet for them as a base instead.
The little tiny running gesture has a vague look at what might potentially be super traditional/primitive hunting gear, and then I got to thinking about what kind of weaponry might be on the front limbs for more up-close combat/taking something or someone down. They already use the hooks on their front knees for combat purposes so why not add extra spikes, as well as a nice little talon on the foot for further damage?
The revamping is done! Ten years after their inception I feel like they make more sense to what I had been wanting to go for. They're called Taurics as they resemble centaurs in a way. If centaurs were large, arthropod-ish, and their upper torso was actually their head and they had an extra secondary head on top of it like a weird hat. I'm still working out the kinks of their internal anatomy and touching up on revamping their culture and such from what I'd done back in the day (most of it lost thanks to the original document file being corrupted, boo). But for now, have this polished sketch set.
CSP actually let me save my damn file after I've made changes please...
I click the 'save' option and no dialogue box comes up. yet I try to close the file and a dialogue box pops up asking me if I want to save. I click 'save' and NOTHING. trying to export doesn't do anything either
anyways, more progress on my tauric aliens
Doing very general gestures to get a better feel for the direction I may want to go in for my taurics, bc I feel like their base looked a bit too... vertebrate-shaped before? obviously they're still vertebrate-adjacent to some degree, but I'm wanting them to look a bit more like a case of convergent evolution from an arthropod-esque creature.
