I took a bunch of "reference" photos while on one of the islands so I could do something along these lines. Me n' @glasseyeartspy's OCs (the pig is named Rhodium now).

I wish it had actually been this nice but with the several tropical storms swirling around us, the humidity was miserable. If we were in an area with wind, or even on a boat blasting through wind and waves, that was totally fine! But being in the still air was awful.

A more accurate portrayal of what it was like most days.

I am sick with god-knows-what that reared its ugly head halfway back home so I need to go get in bed and suffer for a while from that before I can do more.

hrhrghfh... trying to distract my brain from the stress that is the water heater deciding to leak where it CAN'T be fixed and may need full replacement, 3 days before we're supposed to be leaving on a week-long trip across the country

hit a bit of a road block trying to figure out Larimar's new markings, and these vaguely-inspired-by-tropical-fish-with-the-tight-wavy-stripes seems to be working out for her.

once I finish that back view, I get to move along to figuring out how I want them to translate to her monster form. or how much I want to keep vs. not keep for her monster form, considering how her "skin" wrap looks versus her skin here.

It's been a while...

A familiar face from the SU days I've been meaning to revamp into her own thing since 2017, and am just now getting the motivation to do so.

She's now a creature along the lines of a selkie or swan maiden that has a sea-going monster form, and a more humanoid land-going form with her "monster skin" as a wrap around her waist.

I had this sketched and lost it due to a literal two-second power outage, but after I was dramatic about it I buckled down and got the image I had in my head back. I had to draw this wonderful guy, millions of hands be damned!

I tried to give the mask an old and painted look to it, and took a few liberties with the markings as well.

more alien revamp progress trying to make the anatomy more believable and less.. whatever the hell I was doing before

also toying around with what body parts might have been before they became what they are currently (the "ancestor" in the upper right is very heavily mantid-based) and then working off of that. still a ways to go, but it's more fleshed out now.

sometimes it's moments like this that make me look back and go 'hm, maybe I have improved artistically over time' and feel less stagnant

doodled yet ANOTHER weird Wick variation, this one took on some vaguely tech qualities

Sleep Token provides one hell of a fun vibe to draw to. I could not decide between an open-mouthed and closed-mouth look so I just went with both.

Fun fact: Wick technically does not need to breathe through their mouth, the openings on their sides and back are spiracles that they can and do breathe through. Hence the smoke coming from both locations.

It is a sight to behold, should you happen across it deep in the woods. But do not hold its gaze.

Finally done with this thing.

Felt like doing a glowy, ghostly Wick in a forest setting, like they've just been happened upon by a random observer. Wick doesn't have any sort of canonical reason for why they have such a variable appearance other than "this would look cool". They're my monstersona and I get to do whatever I want. :V

I like to think this version of Wick is not a malicious entity, but I can't imagine looking at whatever black hole effect is going on with their eyes is good for your vision. It's probably like looking at the sun for too long but in reverse.

gonna leave this to sit overnight at least so I can come back at it and do one more round of nitpicking before I consider it "done". at this point it's mostly finishing effects anyways.

leave it to me to plan out a piece and then get lost as hell in the rendering of a singular dimension of the piece that was supposed to be blurred to begin with

eh I'll probably just blur the tall grass in the foreground.

I can just imagine how nuts I'll go when I actually get to the rendering of the subject and then the background aspects.

woke up at like 2 AM with the worst burning throat I've had in years, and it's still present despite taking cold meds. raw burning sensation in throat and upper chest, no actual cough but all the discomfort, light-headed, everything feels hot…. tried to scribble something to represent it w/ Wick

I feel like I should be able to breathe fire or something and bc we just went over this new attendance policy at work and I am on call tomorrow I have to at least try to show up and can't just call off like I normally might :) :) :)

Finally polished up that monster-boar-pig design I made for @mixterglacia last year. Inspired by babirusa and red river hogs.

Originally he was gonna have little wings and bristles, but ultimately we left them off.

Azem for RapturedMaw! I saw the big beautiful monster form and had to draw her.

messing around with another Wick variation, this time if they were """normal""" (had a normal two-eye set-up and not a singular giant eye); probably some kind of disguise glamour

as much as I love having characters with weird eye set-ups, sometimes there are certain expressions I can only get away with in a “normal” set-up, and this was sort of born from that

Big dumb man Cinnabar is probably one of the most chill people you can meet. The worst you can do is have decide he's bored, in which case he may get up to some astronomical trouble just to entertain himself.
