The fact that you can’t raise taxes on billionaires even slightly without them pouring money into fascist political movements is, of itself, evidence that billionaires as a class shouldn’t be allowed to exist in the first place.

It’s so infuriating how many people don’t take fascists at their word. You should always believe a fascist. Yes, what they’re saying is insane. Yes, what they’re saying would cause mass death and suffering and tank the economy. They want that. Believe them.

I’m at the executive management level for my very small company and I have 4 people who report directly to me. I am a nice boss. I’m friendly with my employees, I treat them like professional adults, I actively try to create a positive work environment, and I mentor them and make sure they’re advancing in their careers. I do my best to shield them from the rest of management doing stupid shit. My employees like working for me.
The other day one of my employees came to ask if she could change her hours on Mondays. I said yes immediately because it’s helpful for me to know when she’s here and when she’s not, but as long as she gets her work done I don’t care when and where she does it. She then proceeded to tell me that it was so she could attend therapy and like … I will never use this information but … as a general rule don’t fucking do that.
Do not tell your employer shit about your mental or physical health except for the bare minimum needed to request a reasonable accommodation. Even your nice boss can fire you, even your nice boss can unfairly change your working conditions, and even your nice boss at some point is probably going to face pressure from their superiors.
I’m not saying don’t trust your boss with anything ever. I’m just saying that anytime you are in the workplace you need to keep your private information private. You can still have a good relationship with your boss. Your workplace can still be pleasant. But if it ever feels like disclosing private information is required in order to have a good relationship with your boss, please see that as a red flag.
This post got a like out of nowhere and I only vaguely remember writing it and I’m not entirely sure which of my employees inspired it, but it still holds.
I am going to expand on this and suggest that unless you know someone is a friend you can trust with confidences and not just “ a friend from the office”, be very selective about your conversations with them. I’ve had several coworkers with insatiable, inappropriate curiosity and extremely loose lips. They’d share details about their medical history, fights with their partner, or similar topics and expected others to do the same. If you share with them, it’s almost guaranteed they’ll be using that information as conversation fodder. I didn’t appreciate coming back to customers on the 800 line I answered asking me how my tendon surgery went; they should have been told I was out of the office and nothing more. Also wasn’t pleased years later to meet the new hire on my first day back from sick leave and have her chattering away about my hysterectomy. Fortunately I learned my lesson before I started going to counseling. No use not sharing with your boss if someone else is going to share with anyone who stands still long enough to listen.
Remember, not all “friends” are equally trustworthy, or even really friends when it comes to that.

Almost all of these are about variety. Humans need stimulation! We need enrichment! We literally cannot do the same thing every day!
The other day I was feeling miserable, so I hopped on a bus and rode it all the way back to where I’d started, and my brain, which had finally had some proper stimulation via new environments, was suddenly ready to go again!
This is why taking walks/drives and trying new hobbies are good for you! Don’t turn yourself into a sad zoo animal! You need some pumpkins to roll around in your enclosure!
