Vila Wolf's Dyslexic Folklorist Ranting

Hmm... I've got a strange and bizarre mind. I know what you're saying, doesn't everyone on the internet? I can say this, I'm not for everyone. It was once said that I've got a razor wit, a dark sarcasm and one hell of a twisted sense of humor. I like horror, I am a folklorist and I smoke. Professor Timothy Eliot Stokes comes to call. He’s interested in the painting of Angelique and offers Vicki $200 for it. Barnabas and Vicki are both struck by his resemblance to his ancestor, Ben Stokes. Professor Stokes reveals that Ben wrote an unpublished book of memoirs, though parts of it are illegible due to it being damaged in a fire.

“He was an illiterate until he was over 40. That was around 1795. Then there was an abrupt change in Ben Stokes’ life. He’d been an indentured servant and was obliged to serve out his time with the Collins Family until the year 1805. But in 1795, Mr. Joshua Collins suddenly gave Ben his freedom, a sum of money, and full title to a piece of land north of the village. Ben educated himself and worked his land until he died in his 75th year.”

Liz asks Julia to make explanations to Roger, and Barnabas appears*. He apologizes to Vicki for coming to her room, then gets an earful as Vicki “mistakes” him for 1795 Barnabas. He is clearly frightened that she may know his secret. Julia re-enters and tells him to get out. She makes a point of telling him Vicki will not be alone the rest of the night.

*If you look very closely while Julia and Liz are talking, you can see Barnabas is already in the room, standing behind Julia’s chair.

Day 6 - Favourite Time Period ~ 1966
Hey, remember when NOTHING happened on this show for huge swathes of episodes, and the dramas had less to do with vampires and werewolves and more to do with fountain pens and bleeder valves? Me too. It was awesome.
In all seriousness, when you put aside all the supernatural nonsense this show throws at you, what you have is a group of very sad people being awful to each other AND THAT’S WHAT DARK SHADOWS IS REALLY ABOUT. 1966 is all gothic romance, with dark secrets and revenge and crying in the basement and wailing ghosts on the cliff - maybe. And very sad people being awful to each other.
It was awesome.
