Vila Wolf's Dyslexic Folklorist Ranting

@ladykrampus / ladykrampus.tumblr.com

Hmm... I've got a strange and bizarre mind. I know what you're saying, doesn't everyone on the internet? I can say this, I'm not for everyone. It was once said that I've got a razor wit, a dark sarcasm and one hell of a twisted sense of humor. I like horror, I am a folklorist and I smoke. More than 30 years after it was raised from the seabed - and almost 500 years since it sank - the secrets of Henry VIII’s flagship, the Mary Rose, are being revealed to the public - along with the faces of its crew.

Just yards from where it was first constructed from 600 oak trees near Portsmouth’s naval docks in 1510, the wreck of the Tudor warship now stands on view in its new £35m home.

Where once stood a proud, cutting-edge ship built for war, now lies a reconstructed array of wooden decks and pillars, withered by their hundreds of years at the bottom of the Solent.

Standing nearby are some of the men who shared a grave with the ship for hundreds of years, their faces now reconstructed and displayed for the first time

SILVER SPOON

From SS Great Liverpool, recovered by the Finisterre Project.

Old english fiddle pattern. By the lack of copper corrosion products, it’s assumed to be solid silver.

It was treated by electrolytic reduction to remove the chlorides and return part of the corrosion products back to a metallic state.

Sometimes you have to be creative.

In this case, my boss wanted a reconstruction of the ceramics to include the photos in his report. This was impossible due to the little amount of shards and the lack of connection between groups of them (besides the ethical issues). So I suggested to prepare a temporary assembly on clay to show a hypothetical reconstruction of the original shape.

These are chalcolithic vessels fom Betote (Sarria, Lugo, Spain).

Charles II Restoration commemorative caudle cup: 1660

Tin-glazed earthenware commemorative caudle cup made in Southwark and decorated in blue, manganese, yellow and red on a white glaze with a half-length portrait of Charles II, crowned and wearing armour, flanked by the flags of St Andrew and St George, and inscribed:

‘C.R.’ and ‘DRINK UP YOUR DRINK AND LEVE NON IN FOR HEAR IS A HELTH TOO CHARLS OVER RYOUL KING’ and ‘WIB/1660’.

Caudle was a hot spicy drink of ale or wine whisked into an emulsion with egg yolk. During the 17th century, the term caudle (alternatively - lear) was also used to mean a sauce made of sack, butter and eggs for pouring into pies.

Greece: Ancient theatre of Delos to be restored

ATHENS - The Central Archaeological Council (KAS) of the Greek ministry for culture and tourism has given green light to the restoration of the ancient theatre of Delos, one of the most important religious centres of ancient Greece, an islands of the Cyclades where Apollo, god of light, was born according to mythology. It is no coincidence that the centre of the theatre, the orchestra, is considered to be the brightest point in the Mediterranean in a study of the University of Athens. The ancient theatre of Delos is one of the few that were completely built in marble. Its construction started around 314 BC and ended around 70 years later, in 250 BC. In 88 BC, the theatre, which has a capacity of up to 6,500 spectators, was abandoned after the Mithridates plundered the island. Today, exactly 2,100 years later, the Central Archaeological Council approved a project for the restoration of the monument. Read more.
