Vila Wolf's Dyslexic Folklorist Ranting

@ladykrampus / ladykrampus.tumblr.com

Hmm... I've got a strange and bizarre mind. I know what you're saying, doesn't everyone on the internet? I can say this, I'm not for everyone. It was once said that I've got a razor wit, a dark sarcasm and one hell of a twisted sense of humor. I like horror, I am a folklorist and I smoke. Akhkharu [Text] & [Type]

An Epic which tells a version of the origin of vampires.

It’s most commonly presented as ‘The Akhkharu’ when it’s it’s actually an excerpt of a larger text: The Enuma Elish

The goddess Ishtar ventures into the underworld to save her son and vows that in return for his passage to the world above, she would allow the dead to rise and devour the living.

“Gatekeeper, ho, open thy gate! Open thy gate that I may enter! If thou openest not the gate to let me enter, I will break the door, I will wrench the lock, I will smash the door-posts, I will force the doors. I will bring up the dead to eat the living. And the dead will outnumber the living.”

Quick note… the word which early translators said was “devour” could possibly have a double meaning. Some modern translators say there are cases of it being used to describe a sort of “wasting away” illness.

As for this being a type of ancient vampire… well… it’s a hoax.

It appears no sooner than 1977 in a fake occult book published as joke on occultists by a Lovecraft fan.

Whats funny is how long it took people to figure out KUTULU = Cthulhu and there is no such word in the Akkadian language.

One participial hell-arious THIS SHIT AINT REAL rant was written by a vampire obsessed historian. Even though this one is smart enough to note the Cthulhu references, has clearly never actually read any Lovecraft and tries very hard to raise the racism flag:  http://www.sanguinarius.org/articles-2/Cyn-Akhkharu.shtml

that awkward moment when a medieval doodle kicks something in your brain and you suddenly know what the Elder Sign is

The burning eye in the star? That's not the Elder Sign folks. Most of the Lovecraft Mythos admits this.

The 'tree doodle' from Lovecraft himself he basically admitted, in one of his letters, he drew that to shut up the people who kept asking him about it.

From the descriptions in Lovecraft's stories the Elder Sign was not originally something you drew, it was a sign you made with you hand most often done by superstitious Italians.

OK. Italian superstition is big on the Evil Eye and how to ward it off. So the burning eye in the star we see on the videogames and table-top rpgs could be taken to be the Evil Eye contained and thus of no harm to you.

So them what exactly is the hand sign the superstitious used to ward off the Evil Eye?

Only you do not point strait into the air, you point at the person making the Evil Eye.

It's use in Rock comes to us from the 70's and Blackie lawless who had come across this sign in an occult book as a protective charm and had started using it during live performances.

So there's this argument that Doctor Who is actually

a Lovecraftian Elder God who does nothing but fuck shit up and spread chaos and destruction where ever he goes.

I find this endlessly amusing and thought I ought to share.

Antarctic Expedition Disappears

Shoggoths Suspected yet The Thing told not to leave without calling first...

Fears held for Russian scientists exploring "alien" Antarctic lake, Vostok

Russian scientists preparing to explore the "most alien lake on Earth," Lake Vostok, have reportedly not been in touch with American colleagues in over five days.

News DeskFebruary 3, 2012 06:57

Russian scientists preparing to explore the "most alien lake on Earth," Lake Vostok, have reportedly not been in touch with American colleagues in over five days.

Vostok, buried over two miles — or 13,000 feet — beneath the great Antarctic ice sheet, is one of the world's largest lakes. However, it hasn't been exposed to air in more than 20 million years, Fox News reported.

The team from Russia's Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) have been drilling for weeks to reach the isolated, subglacial water, part of a network of more than 200 subglacial lakes in Antarctica, according to the Washington Post.

Some of the lakes existed in warmer times, when the continent was connected to Australia.

Vostok is thought to harbor conditions similar to those of Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus, and the discovery of life in the lake's inky depths would significantly strengthen the prospect of discovering life on either of these icy bodies.

However, the lake is "characterized by extremes, as geothermal heat from the Earth's interior warms the lake's bottom keeping it in a liquid state.

Thousands of yards of crushing ice also insulate Vostok from the coldest surface temperatures on Earth, "while infusing it with oxygen at concentrations fifty times higher than is typical of freshwater lakes on the planet's surface," the website said.

However, because there is no light, any nutrients can only exist in small quantities.

Still, the scientists were "enormously excited about what life-forms might be found there," the Washington Post reported.

Their main concern was contaminating the lake with drilling fluids and bacteria, "and the potentially explosive 'de-gassing' of a body of water that has especially high concentrations of oxygen and nitrogen."

Meanwhile, Dr. John Priscu, professor of Ecology at Montana State University, told FoxNews.com via email that he had no way to contact the team and the already cold weather was set to plunge, as Antarctica's summer season was ending.

"Temps are dropping below [minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit] and they have only a week or so left before they have to winterize the station," he told Fox. "I can only imagine what things must be like at Vostok Station this week."

For my Wicca / Satanic / just bored on a weekend Friends

THE NECRONOMICON IS NOT REAL. IT NEVER WAS.

YOU CANNOT SUMMON CTHULHU INTO YOUR KITCHEN BECAUSE HE IS NOT REAL.

It's a bad joke let loose into the world by HP Lovecraft. Just because we "Cultists" (read: fan boys and girls of the Lovecraftian mythos) like to pretend it's all real for a moment or two while we talk about Lovecrafts stories does not mean it is.

Lovecraft was arguably the first Public Domain Science Fiction Author of the 20th century, he not only hated getting paid for his terror-inspiring stories but he actively encouraged other authors to borrow elements from his stories and even add to the mythos.

The element most borrowed from Lovecraft was the Necronomicon, used mostly as plot-filer to explain away something or dispel lazy authorship. All they had to do was say that it's on page whatever of the necronomicon and that was all the explanation needed. Because so many people wrote about this book it just /had/ to be real, it became a sort of mass-contagion fulled myth that I will admit, we Cultists encouraged as we thought you'd figure it out sooner or later.

IT'S NOT REAL. IT NEVER WAS.

Yes, you buy a little black book that says necronomicon on it and even a companion called necronomicon spells,

IT IS A FAN-FICTION TO LOVECRAFT AND IT IS MAKING FUN OF YOUR GULLIBILITY.

IT WAS INTENTIONALLY PUBLISHED TO MOCK YOU FOR SO EASILY BELIEVING IN FAIRY-TALES.

STOP BELIEVING THE JOKE THAT YOU ARE THE PUNCHLINE TO.

Lost World Discovered Under Antarctica

This discovery is amazing, straight out of a Jules Verne's novel: scientists from the University of Oxford, University of Southampton, the National Oceanography Centre, and the British Antarctic Survey have discovered a "lost world" thriving with unknown species under Antarctica, in the East Scotia Ridge.

Researchers used a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to explore the depths of the East Scotia Ridge, which is full of hydrothermal vents which can reach up to 719 degrees Fahrenheit (382 degrees Celsius). They discovered an amazing new world packed with unknown species. According to project leader Professor Alex Rogers of Oxford University's Department of Zoology, these alien-looking white creatures are thriving in the rich chemicals ejected by the vents:

Hydrothermal vents are home to animals found nowhere else on the planet that get their energy not from the Sun but from breaking down chemicals, such as hydrogen sulphide. The first survey of these particular vents, in the Southern Ocean near Antarctica, has revealed a hot, dark, ‘lost world' in which whole communities of previously unknown marine organisms thrive.

The researchers—who just published their discoveries on the biology section of the Public Library of Science, a non-profit organization of scientists—were amazed to find so many never before seen species in such large numbers. Entire colonies of unknown yeti crabs, anemones, predatory sea stars with seven arms and pale octopus were found, piling on top of the vents, creeping on top of each other, at nearly 7,874 feet (2,400 meters) under the surface of the Southern Ocean.

They are also surprised that they didn't find any of the tubeworms and mussels typically detected in hydrothermal vents all over the world. It's a new complex ecosystem, which has led them to believe that the variety of organisms around vents all over the world must be more than what we previously thought.
