The “Throne of the Great Mogul Aureng-Zeb”, 1708
One of the most curious examples of late Baroque art and the main work of Johann Melchior Dinglinger. He worked for more than six years to put the glamorous birthday party scene in the legendary Grand Mogul. The work includes 5223 diamonds, 189 rubies, 175 emeralds, 53 pearls, two cameos and a sapphire. He presented the work to August the Strong, King of Poland. The artwork was named after Aureng-Zeb, the legendary contemporary of Augustus the Strong, who reigned from 1658 until his death in 1707 over the entire Indian subcontinent.
