retconning the smallfolk into loving dragons and specifically thinking that the slaying of melys, the dragon who slaughtered them en masse like 2 weeks ago, is an abomination is basically just changing the entire premise of the story at this point

like i cannot believe they had the chance to adapt fire & blood and expand on the incredibly complex relationships between characters from both factions and on the family dynamics, to detail the many events that led up to the start of dance that are hinted at in small paragraphs, all of the moments that amounted to a tragedy that nearly ended the targaryen bloodline. but they hit SKIP on nearly all of that instead to go right to the dance and now each side of the war gets One (1) thirty second meaningful interaction before we have to rush off to the next big plot point. do they not realize that too much Plot and not enough time devoted to fleshing out each character and their different relationships makes the show feel hollow. like helaena is allowed two lines and a micro-expression per episode. if they're feeling generous. how are we supposed to care about these characters when the writers don't devote any time to their development just because they want to check the next Big Plot Point off of their list. the big plot points don't have any payoff if we don't have enough buildup. very weak writing and me and grrm are mourning the adaption that we could have had
