I think the reason the idea of Feng Xin groveling at Mu Qing’s feet post his confession of just wanting to be friends bothers me so much is because it kinda steals Mu Qing’s autonomy? It positions him as almost a helpless victim to Feng Xin’s treatment of him when Mu Qing always responded in kind. And it positions Feng Xin as the bad guy who was irrefutably awful to him with no justification. When they literally spent 800 years around each other during which time Mu Qing could’ve just ignored him.

This is also why the ONLY version of Feng Xin apologizing in a fic that appeals to me is one where Mu Qing has trouble accepting it and argues that he owes Feng Xin apologies too. Which is arguably the most in-character way to write that sort of scenario because Mu Qing would hate the implication of being just a poor victim to Feng Xin’s treatment.

#I am not tagging main tagging this #mostly because it’s not exactly how I wanted to put things but I have to work soon and I wanted to write this thought out lmao #this isn’t to say I don’t think Feng Xin shouldn’t apologize for the negative ways he viewed Mu Qing’s character #but like?? groveling ??? on his knees??? nah I don’t think Mu Qing would want that anyway #because he really doesn’t need greater reassurance than just being wanted around
