People said he was kind of stand-offish, so I stayed away from him. I thought, ‘He’s awful small to be playing a big mean Texan,’ but he came to me and he was super nice - a completely different guy than he was around the press. He’d just cuss ‘em out and he wouldn’t give them the time of day. But to the ranchers and people around there he was just as nice as he could be. Dean came to me and said, ‘Bob, I want to be a Texan twenty-four hours a day. I’d like for you to work with me. I’ll even pay you out of my pocket.’ So I got him some clothes and boots and he started talking like a Texan every day.
