Look, I was gonna hide this in the tags like I normally do cos I’m not even sure if any of this is coherent but then it got too long and I’ve got ~caffeine in my veinsss~

I’m just gonna gush about Colin’s acting here a moment. Unfortunately, I’ve already forgotten most of the dialogue cos I’ve only seen this movie once, and quite frankly, don’t plan on watching it again, so I’m going purely off of memory and his body language alone here.

But from the moment he appeared in this scene, he hasn’t made any inherently threatening actions? Here he looks a bit frustrated, tilts his head somewhat patronisingly, but nothing that inherently says danger. And yet. Everything about this scene is just… chilling. It’s all just a culmination of the little things he’s been doing since his character was introduced, which is pretty obvious, but Colin just pulls it off so well.

It’s the way Peter kills those two men ruthlessly and unflinchingly earlier (yes, it was much more self defense than anything else, but the point still stands), and it’s the way he goes and does a complete 180 with Anna immediately after, getting furious and shouting at her for her decisions before just… taking a breath and calming down and going “I forgive you,” and the way he essentially orders the execution without even blinking, plus all the other characters and scenes and dialogue we’ve seen so far. And now we’re here.

I was on high alert the moment he showed up in this scene, and it’s much more to do than how suspicious Anna has gotten of him and his creepy cult/community. And like I said, there isn’t really anything threatening in his body language. Nothing that specifically sets off alarms when he walks in. Nothing in these gifs that, taken alone and without context, can really be considered dangerous. I’ve seen these gifsets before watching the movie, when it first came out, and I never thought twice about it aside from “oh lmao big head tilt.” He’s a bit frustrated with Anna in this scene, looking a bit patronizing, but still sitting fairly relaxed. And yet, I was tense as all hell watching this because despite what his body language is saying, there were definitely sirens going off in my head. And just for context, I knew virtually nothing about this movie going in aside from the relevant warnings, didn’t see the trailer, I had no idea when Those Scenes we’re gonna happen, but I just knew they would.

But then Colin walks into the room and shuts the door and tilts his head and all of a sudden I just knew. I knew Anna was very much in danger right now, I knew something terrible was going to happen, and I knew I just wanted to shake Anna and tell her to start running. All from the way Colin comes in and shuts the door and tilts his head. What an actor.

Rewatched this movie for the 3rd time (cannot recommend it enough), and there is just so much nuance to everything in it — the writing, the performances, down to the layers Peter sheds both literally and figuratively as the movie progresses. There is so much desperation, for different reasons, between the two characters in this scene, and I love it. Colin was just phenomenal. 😍👏

Cannot get enough of all these awesome GIFs @kwistowee
