So, yeah, it's nice finding various messages about how much River sucks in my ask box (wtf??)
This one really makes me angry, though, because you're putting every Whoufflé shipper out there under a bad light, and that isn't cool.
So, let me answer this well thorough list, please.
1. THE most stupidest thing anyone can say about the Doctor and River is that he doesn't love her. I can accept you don't like her, I can accept you think she's a sexist character (how?? but okay, whatever), I can accept you're a shallow person and think she's too old for Eleven (but Rose/Nine was fine, mind you!), but I can't accept you, or anyone, trying to subvert the ENTIRE canon, by saying that the Doctor doesn't really love her.
Let me tell you the ways he doesn't really love her:
- Upon their first encounter (from River's perspective), he was dying, killed by Melody, knew that she could have saved him by giving him her regenerations, and didn't fucking tell her to avoid it. He was willing to die, then, just to let her not waste her regenerations for him.
- He was determined to "fake die" on the beach at Lake Silencio, without telling her he was really alive because he wanted to protect her. And that's also why he didn't "want to marry [her]". Because, imagine if people knew he was still alive and that she was his wife - they kidnapped her once before because she was "simply" his best friends' child; don't you think they would want to harm her if they knew she was his fucking wife?
And no, she doesn't need protecting, because she's River - nice hair, clever, has her own gun, - but the Doctor wouldn't be the Doctor if he didn't try to save everyone, now, wouldn't he?
- And while we're at it, he also made sure that River knew that he forgave her, that he knew this wasn't her fault. I mean, it's already clear enough that he doesn't love her by now, but let's just say something more about it.
- He healed her broken wrist with part of his regeneration energy. No, he didn't waste an ENTIRE regeneration, but that was a sweet gesture of him, trying to mend the only thing he could mend about their relationship. Remember that River had told him just the second before that loving him hurts:
DOCTOR: Why did you lie to me?
RIVER: When one's in love with an ageless god who insists on the face of a twelve year old, one does one's best to hide the damage.
DOCTOR: It must hurt. Come here.
RIVER: Yes. The wrist is pretty bad too.
- Want to talk about The Angels Take Manhattan some more?
- Talking about the book with a woman on it who accurately resembles River:
DOCTOR: I just like the cover
DOCTOR: "[...] Final checks"
AMY: "Since when?"
- Also ogling his wife as soon as he meets her, because, damn, #dat ass.
- We are told in The Name of the Doctor, that Eleven has always seen River's echo, and he basically said that she's always with him, in his hearts. He didn't speak to her because he knew it would hurt him too much, because he loves her, and she's dead, and he's in great pain for that.
- He also cried at the mention of River in the same episode, just after Clara asked him who she was. Did you think he was crying because of Trenzalore? Well, think again - you clearly weren't focusing enough.
- They are in a marriage, just saying.
- He explicitly called her his wife once ("They would never bury my wife out here"), and said they were married twice ("You're the woman who married me"; "That's nice, but I'm married"). He also implies they're married once, as Ten, in the Library ("You whispered my name in my ear [...] There's only one way I could tell you that. There's only one time I could--").
- River also considers him his husband ("Of course I'm sure, I'm his wife!"; "Just you wait till my husband gets home"; "-Are you married, River? [...] -Yes").
- The characters around them also notice, and speak their mind about it: Mr. Lux in Forest of the Dead ("[...] and you're squabbling like an old married couple!"); Amy various times in The Time of Angels ("Oooh, Doctor, you sonicked her!"; "Is River Song your wife? [...] She's Mrs Doctor from the future, isn't she? Is she going to your wife some day?"; "Oops. Her indoors!"; "You're so his wife.").
- When River suggested rewriting time to save the Doctor, he yelled at her "Don't you dare!". Same happened, in reverse, in the Library, when River died to save him.
- Other things that I can't think of right now.
So, now that we've seen just how much the Doctor hates River, we can proceed to point two.
2. She has to go at some point, you're right. But this doesn't mean this is her time. On the contrary, so many things about her are still unknown: when did the Doctor tell her his name? how did she "make him"? what did the Doctor actually whisper in her ear in Let's Kill Hitler? How many Doctors has she met ("You never show up in the right order")? WHO THE FUCK IS JIM THE FISH????? (Okay, yeah, we'll never know that one, I know, but it suckkkks). Also, why was Clara in the Library? If they wanted to get her back, she could definitely save her.
3. Excuse you, but no one is "forcing her down your throats again". If you don't like her, that's your problem. I'm not fond of Clara but you don't see me yelling "CLARA GO AWAY BECAUSE YOU SUCK", or go in people's ask boxes to spread hate about her. I also couldn't care for Amy in series 5, but I never wanted her to go just because I didn't like her. People are bound to disagree about a character, but that doesn't mean one's preference should prevail over the others. If you don't want to see her, don't watch the episodes with her in it. Or just watch them and complain. Or be smart and empathise with the people who really love her and get to see her three/four times per series, if they're lucky. Whatever you wish to do. See if I care.
4. You're either an hypocrite, or you're just plain stupid. You said "Eleven didn't really love her" just a few points before, and now you're saying "you had your love story with the Eleventh". I mean, do you see the contradiction here? So, what is it? Did Eleven really love River - hence, we had our love story, - or did he not? Make up your mind, and fuck off yourself.
5. This is your shipping preference, and I respect it. I don't like Whoufflé, and that's no secret, I think, but I never spread hate about it, and I never dismissed the possibility of finding Twelve perfect for Clara.
I am basically against it NOT because I love River, but because I would like another Companion like Donna, and not another love interest for the Doctor (Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, John Hurt, or whatever).
Regardless, I wish your ship well and send you my regards.
Be also aware of the fact that I've blocked you, because I don't like rude anons, but this reply had to be made.
A little note for all the Whoufflé shippers: I'm sorry you have people like this in your part of the fandom, I really am. I know some of you hate River and her relationship with Eleven, but there are people among you who are polite about it, and respectful, and actually even like River and/or ship her with Eleven, too.
That said, the initiative is about getting River back and is made by fans for fans. Nobody is forcing anyone to help, and you should only do it if you really want to see River return.
Have a great day, y'all!s
