So, if you haven't listened to this song already, just do it.

I wrote the lyrics on an impulse, but it's only thanks to Conny that this has become a proper song. She wrote the music and recorded herself playing it and singing it. And she has an amazing voice, so yeah. She's just awesome, okay?

Also, I just wish to inform you that one of the elements on my bucket list was to write a song. With this beautiful lady helping me making this a real thing, I feel like I can cross that out from the list. I am really happy about it! Thank you, Cons ♥

So, yeah, it's nice finding various messages about how much River sucks in my ask box (wtf??)

This one really makes me angry, though, because you're putting every Whoufflé shipper out there under a bad light, and that isn't cool. So, let me answer this well thorough list, please.

1. THE most stupidest thing anyone can say about the Doctor and River is that he doesn't love her. I can accept you don't like her, I can accept you think she's a sexist character (how?? but okay, whatever), I can accept you're a shallow person and think she's too old for Eleven (but Rose/Nine was fine, mind you!), but I can't accept you, or anyone, trying to subvert the ENTIRE canon, by saying that the Doctor doesn't really love her.

Let me tell you the ways he doesn't really love her

  • Upon their first encounter (from River's perspective), he was dying, killed by Melody, knew that she could have saved him by giving him her regenerations, and didn't fucking tell her to avoid it. He was willing to die, then, just to let her not waste her regenerations for him
  • He was determined to "fake die" on the beach at Lake Silencio, without telling her he was really alive because he wanted to protect her. And that's also why he didn't "want to marry [her]". Because, imagine if people knew he was still alive and that she was his wife - they kidnapped her once before because she was "simply" his best friends' child; don't you think they would want to harm her if they knew she was his fucking wife?  And no, she doesn't need protecting, because she's River - nice hair, clever, has her own gun, - but the Doctor wouldn't be the Doctor if he didn't try to save everyone, now, wouldn't he?
  • And while we're at it, he also made sure that River knew that he forgave her, that he knew this wasn't her fault. I mean, it's already clear enough that he doesn't love her by now, but let's just say something more about it.
  • He healed her broken wrist with part of his regeneration energy. No, he didn't waste an ENTIRE regeneration, but that was a sweet gesture of him, trying to mend the only thing he could mend about their relationship. Remember that River had told him just the second before that loving him hurts:
DOCTOR: Why did you lie to me? RIVER: When one's in love with an ageless god who insists on the face of a twelve year old, one does one's best to hide the damage. DOCTOR: It must hurt. Come here. RIVER: Yes. The wrist is pretty bad too.
  • Want to talk about The Angels Take Manhattan some more?
  • Talking about the book with a woman on it who accurately resembles River:
DOCTOR: I just like the cover
  • Before meeting River:
DOCTOR: "[...] Final checks" AMY: "Since when?"
  • Also ogling his wife as soon as he meets her, because, damn, #dat ass.
  • We are told in The Name of the Doctor, that Eleven has always seen River's echo, and he basically said that she's always with him, in his hearts. He didn't speak to her because he knew it would hurt him too much, because he loves her, and she's dead, and he's in great pain for that.
  • He also cried at the mention of River in the same episode, just after Clara asked him who she was. Did you think he was crying because of Trenzalore? Well, think again - you clearly weren't focusing enough.
  • They are in a marriage, just saying.
  • He explicitly called her his wife once ("They would never bury my wife out here"), and said they were married twice ("You're the woman who married me"; "That's nice, but I'm married"). He also implies they're married once, as Ten, in the Library ("You whispered my name in my ear [...] There's only one way I could tell you that. There's only one time I could--").
  • River also considers him his husband ("Of course I'm sure, I'm his wife!"; "Just you wait till my husband gets home"; "-Are you married, River? [...] -Yes").
  • The characters around them also notice, and speak their mind about it: Mr. Lux in Forest of the Dead ("[...] and you're squabbling like an old married couple!"); Amy various times in The Time of Angels ("Oooh, Doctor, you sonicked her!"; "Is River Song your wife? [...] She's Mrs Doctor from the future, isn't she? Is she going to your wife some day?"; "Oops. Her indoors!"; "You're so his wife.").
  • When River suggested rewriting time to save the Doctor, he yelled at her "Don't you dare!". Same happened, in reverse, in the Library, when River died to save him.
  • Other things that I can't think of right now.

So, now that we've seen just how much the Doctor hates River, we can proceed to point two.

2. She has to go at some point, you're right. But this doesn't mean this is her time. On the contrary, so many things about her are still unknown: when did the Doctor tell her his name? how did she "make him"? what did the Doctor actually whisper in her ear in Let's Kill Hitler? How many Doctors has she met ("You never show up in the right order")? WHO THE FUCK IS JIM THE FISH????? (Okay, yeah, we'll never know that one, I know, but it suckkkks). Also, why was Clara in the Library? If they wanted to get her back, she could definitely save her

3. Excuse you, but no one is "forcing her down your throats again". If you don't like her, that's your problem. I'm not fond of Clara but you don't see me yelling "CLARA GO AWAY BECAUSE YOU SUCK", or go in people's ask boxes to spread hate about her. I also couldn't care for Amy in series 5, but I never wanted her to go just because I didn't like her. People are bound to disagree about a character, but that doesn't mean one's preference should prevail over the others. If you don't want to see her, don't watch the episodes with her in it. Or just watch them and complain. Or be smart and empathise with the people who really love her and get to see her three/four times per series, if they're lucky. Whatever you wish to do. See if I care.

4. You're either an hypocrite, or you're just plain stupid. You said "Eleven didn't really love her" just a few points before, and now you're saying "you had your love story with the Eleventh". I mean, do you see the contradiction here? So, what is it? Did Eleven really love River - hence, we had our love story, - or did he not? Make up your mind, and fuck off yourself.

5. This is your shipping preference, and I respect it. I don't like Whoufflé, and that's no secret, I think, but I never spread hate about it, and I never dismissed the possibility of finding Twelve perfect for Clara. I am basically against it NOT because I love River, but because I would like another Companion like Donna, and not another love interest for the Doctor (Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, John Hurt, or whatever). Regardless, I wish your ship well and send you my regards.

Be also aware of the fact that I've blocked you, because I don't like rude anons, but this reply had to be made.

A little note for all the Whoufflé shippers: I'm sorry you have people like this in your part of the fandom, I really am. I know some of you hate River and her relationship with Eleven, but there are people among you who are polite about it, and respectful, and actually even like River and/or ship her with Eleven, too.

That said, the initiative is about getting River back and is made by fans for fans. Nobody is forcing anyone to help, and you should only do it if you really want to see River return.

Have a great day, y'all!s

This is great, and I wanted to say mine too! :D

I feel like Run by Snow Patrol is the perfect River/Doctor song, just before she leaves him to go to the Library - from the Doctor's perspective, of course.

I'll sing it one last time for you Then we really have to go You've been the only thing that's right In all I've done And I can barely look at you But every single time I do I know we'll make it anywhere Away from here

In this first verses, it just seems to me like the Doctor knows River's time has come ("I'll sing it one last time", "we really have to go"), and he can't bear to look at her because he knows he won't be seeing her again (well, this River, at least), but he has faith that they can do anything together like they've always done.

Light up, light up As if you have a choice Even if you cannot hear my voice I'll be right beside you dear

In the first part of the chorus, I always imagine the Doctor trying to convince himself that this story they're living, even though it's their choice ("Time can be rewritten"), it's also forced upon them ("Don't you dare!"). Frankly, the second part (even if you cannot hear my voice/I'll be right beside you dear) could apply either to the Doctor or River (as of The Name of the Doctor), but I've always imagined the Doctor mentally telling that to his beloved, since he knows he will condemn her to a half-life without him in it.

Louder louder And we'll run for our lives I can hardly speak I understand Why you can't raise your voice to say

In the second part of the chorus, he's just thinking about every time they've been together, and their adventurous life, daring and escaping death ("and we'll run for our lives"), and how this can't be avoided now, and he feels trapped and doesn't know what to do or say ("I can hardly speak").

To think I might not see those eyes Makes it so hard not to cry And as we say our long goodbye I nearly do

This is self-explanatory, isn't it? And we know the Doctor does cry as they say their "long goodbye".

Slower slower We don't have time for that All I want is to find an easier way To get out of our little heads Have heart my dear We're bound to be afraid Even if it's just for a few days Making up for all this mess Light up, light up As if you have a choice Even if you cannot hear my voice I'll be right beside you dear

The last chorus changes a bit. I love when he says "we don't have time for that" - I always imagine they want to be alone and get intimate, but they can't, because time is running out, and he knows something's going to happen to her, and feels like loving her would make it too hard to let go ("have heart, my dear, we're bound to be afraid").  And then the song closes with the Doctor telling River (in his mind) that this is how the story ends, that they don't have a choice, because rewriting that would mean rewriting EVERY moment together, but, even if they won't be together any more, he will always think about her.

I just filed my complaint with the BBC with regards to bringing back River Song, as played by Alex Kingston (obvs).

I wrote that we (friends/family) love the series on BBCOne, looove River, but may stop watching the programme if River does not return next series (and the Christmas special).

Please go to the website right away to ensure that River Song will be back. Filming for the Christmas 2013 episode begins in August and DW executives need to hear how popular River Song is, so that they will bring her back to the series. It literally took no more than 5 minutes to send in the complaint (and I wrote a VERY long explanation, but no one else has to).

Inspired by these posts: [X] and  [X]

Update: THIS is why it’s important to write in to the BBC right away:

“Thanks for contacting the BBC. We attach the text of the complaint for your records and will normally include it in our overnight report of all today’s audience reaction. This is circulated to BBC staff tomorrow and ensures your points will reach the right people quickly.”

Thank you! She could be coming back already, but us being in that log supports that decision and Alex. Especially when the BBC is going the way of American TV and wanting 30 and under actors.

I know I'm not watching anymore.  I tried with 7b and couldn't except for the finale. Even 7a disappointed me. Ratings show I'm not the only one.

E.

Thank you very much indeed!

I personally would watch Doctor Who anyway, I must say, even if I didn't like the second part of the 7th series so much, but, when I know River is going to be in the episode, I am so much more excited to see the show!

they never said before that River wouldn't come back though... plus Alex Kingston all but confirmed for definite that she's coming back.

May I just refer you to this post, which I think explains everything better than I could ever do?

I am 85% sure she’ll be back, as you can see from my theories, but better safe than sorry, right? It doesn’t hurt letting the BBC know that we love her and want her back :)

Also, they said to Erin that the people who want River are in the minority, and they make the show for the majority. That alone seems to me a good reason to set the record straight!

If you want River Song to return, please let the BBC and Doctor Who offices know you want her back.

  • The BBC said River fans wanting her back were in the minority and they program for the majority. This was after the success of River Song day.

Doctor Who offices: email them at [email protected]

Be a part of Get River Back, a tumblr group of River fans who are showing the BBC and Doctor Who that we aren’t a minority; use the tag “get river back” as a way to spread the word. See how the BBC form works and a sample letter to copy & paste if you want.

Be polite, but say you would really like River Song to return to the show as an important character (such as Series 5 and 6). You might want to mention that in a recent poll of Doctor Who fans, bringing back River scored higher than anything else.

Please spread the word to other fans to contact them as well, even if they swear she’s definitely returning. It doesn’t hurt to let the powers-that-be know and it can go a long way to bringing her back. Remember, they said they make the show for the majority. Show them wanting her back is not the minority!

River Song's return (aka let's get her back ourselves!)

If you love River and you want to ensure her return to the show (even if you're sure she's coming back), please just go to this blog and click on the "infos page"!

Let's show them together what a large fanbase River has; let's show them that we are not the minority at all, and that a strong, brilliant, and gorgeous character like hers needs to come back because her story is not done.

So, please, just go to the blog, read the info section, and then decide if you want to join us in this.

If we stick together, we can do it!

Thank you!
