MXTX: so the story starts with the main character's death. Then we unravel his story and how he tried his best but had to resort to fucked up methods in order to create real change and save lives, how society supported him while it benefited them and then turned on him when it was convenient, how his complicated social status of being gentry-adjacent was intrinsically tied into every decision he made AND how he was judged before during and after those decisions, how he experienced abuse and abandonment and support and love, saved lives AND killed people. He sacrificed everything but never compromised his ideals once, and it got him killed.
MXTX: and then we close the story on the death of this other guy, who we're also shown having gone through ALL THAT SAME STUFF, except this guy compromises every single time and that ALSO got him killed.
MXTX: neither of them were killed because it was "right" to, or because they were "evil", but because those with power in society were done with them. Their past actions were used to excuse their executions, and it's kinda fucked up actually, wouldn't you say?

Idk if I am stupid or not but I've discovered that my interpretation of wwx is different from others. For me wwx is someone deeply flawed and deeply shaped by his trauma, even if he doesn't want to confront them; wwx is a liar most of the time; wwx doesn't respect other's agency, because he thinks he knows best ( at the end less, but he still didn't say to lxc about sisi, because then lxc would have taken "a bad choice"). He has also good qualities! Obviously, as everyone, but what I love about wwx is how he just fucks up everyone and himself, even if he has the best of intentions. He wants to help, but his help endangers himself and others. And the fact that his actions hurt others hunts wwx (the few moments when he let himself be self conscious). But, despite everything, people still love wwx and forgive him a lot! He fucks up a lot but people forgive him because they love him (and because they are insane). I am tired of " wwx did nothing wrong" "wwx goes back and fixes everything" because no!!! If he ever went back in time, he would cause more problems than anything, but people still would love him!!!!
i agree!! and to be fair, i think a lot of people do, too! wei wuxian is a disaster of a person in two separate lifetimes, but he is also wildly charismatic and caring and people are just drawn to him.
