au where exorcist!Hawks is hired by endeavor to cast out demon!Dabi or kill him if he fails to do so. Enji  himself is not able to do either, and dabi is aware of both of these things, though he lets himself get attached anyway.

(also if you think that I should add trigger warnings for this let me know ig?)

BNHA 266 - Thoughts

These last three chapters seriously just about killed me. Who is truly a good person? Standing up for the greater good or standing up for your friends? What is true happiness? Dying for your beliefs or dying for your family?

Like in every good spy story, the bromance of Hawks and Twice comes to a predictably, but heart-breakingly tragic end as neither of the two will back down and Dabi joins the fray. Three people, all let down by hero society in different way, in a battle to the death torn into different directions:

Hawks between his instinct to save first (even if it’s just pushing off the inevitable),

and his need to win this for the hero side, no matter the cost.

Dabi, between cold cynicism that’s willing to bet a life of a friend on a despised hero’s instincts

Hawks reaction to Dabi saying his real name though… like he’s been keeping it a secret, like he’s ashamed of his family name, like how fucking ironic it would be if Hawks admired Endeavor all this time because he took down his abusive, shithead dad - the thief called Takami...

How tragic to see these two clash - the son of the villain turned hero, and the son of a hero turned villain - one saved, one destroyed by the same person, both let down by hero society in their own ways, turned into ruthless weapons unable to save the person they both think is worth saving.

The Dabi-reveal is the true slow-burn of BNHA and I think it will be even more complex and tragic than we ever imagined….

I never really realized it until chapter 258 made it very clear but Hawks and Twice make very interesting foils to each other.

Twice has his split personality issue where he doesn’t know who his true self is. He literally has multiple personas, due to the nature of his quirk. His journey as a character has been about figuring out his true self and whether his physical body is real or a clone. And finding a place where he belongs

He is also very open about who he is. He wears his emotions on his sleeve. He always says what he is thinking is never deceitful in his actions. He trusts easily and places a lot of faith in those he views as his companions.

Hawks on the other hand is deceitful, intelligent, and cunning. He does everything himself, because he doesn’t trust in other people to get things done. His character arc has been about losing himself and the ideals he holds so he can be the person people expect him to be.

He plays multiple roles in people’s lives and is never genuine about his intentions. He has his charismatic public persona, his obedient and trustworthy persona for the hero commission, and his rebellious anti-establishment persona for the league. None of which seem to be his fully true self.

He rarely reveals his true intentions, and when he does, it’s always wrapped in metaphor and half truths and concealed cries for help. And he never relies heavily on any one person. Small flashes of his true self have been shown to Endeavor, Twice, and Tokoyami. But no one person knows who he really is.
