KochLand Homestead (and more adventures)

@kochlandhomestead

In March of 2018 I finally left my full time job to live my life as I please. Now I homestead, resell, do social media management, and much more. These are my adventures!

Hello everyone! Sorry about the long absence from Tumblr. It was a very busy fall for me and when you add in the fact I got a new phone I have been scrambling to get caught up. That and I have once again started a new relationship. We started to talk in July and things quickly escalated. I now try to split my time 50/50 between the homestead and her place an hour south of home. She's a fancy pants country girl and fits into my crazy lifestyle perfectly. We are so happy together and excited to be building something with each other.

With all that being said I did get some things done this fall. We got a large crop of pumpkins from the plot that I planted. Some of my experimentations with these did not go so well but others did very good. I'm in the process now of gathering what's left over from sales in a few donations plus our own personal use to save seeds for future years. I traded several pumpkins for a few bushels of Indian corn so that will be added in next year as well. Beside that final garden harvesting, gathering grapes off the vine, picking pears to trade with our neighbor for wine like always, and starting to cut firewood for my father and the girlfriend have taken up so much time.

Of course you all know how busy I am over the holiday season with running the Santa house. On top of now having two properties to help decorate LOL.

It's been a very interesting few months but I have missed you all. I'm going to really try hard over the next couple weeks to get caught up on here and say hi to all of you. Hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more post from me and my adventures!

Garden clean up continues.

Cut the last of the sunflowers down and hung the heads to dry. I'm going to split the seeds half for chicken feed and half for planting next year. I'm also trying to dry the stalks to use as stakes.

Last of the pumpkins are harvested. We even had a few left over for some decorating. Really good crop this year. Found this little zucchini hiding in their Vines too!

Having one of my sleepless nights. Figured I may as well drop in and show you all a few recent pictures.

Today (yesterday?) I built a few small trellises for my sugar peas. This is the first time I've attempted this and I'm very happy with the results.

My potatoes have begun arising from the Earth. I was glad I marked where I planted them do well as I nearly got into them with the how. 😖

My small kitchen garden gave me a handful of very early beans. These are going to be dried and stored for next year. I'm curious if they will produce early too. I accidentally knocked off a couple green cherry tomatoes. Hopefully they will ripen in the window.

I'm proud of the effort I'm putting into the gardens this year. It truly looks like it may pay off too. Hard to believe with how wet it has been.

Ok kids I'm going to try the sleep thing again. Goodnight!

This week feels shorter then most. I came down with a bug at the beginning of the week spending Sunday, Monday, and most of Tuesday on the couch. Been struggling to catch up since then but I think I finally got there.

Gardens mostly planted except for a few things that I'll be putting in early next week if it stays dry this weekend. The wet spring held me back for a long time but things have finally started to sprout and it's looking good. Now comes the long process of keeping the weeds down and protecting it from the various critters who would like to snack on it.

It's a gorgeous 76 degrees today with a beautiful blue and white sky. After all the rain we've had it's a true blessing.

Even with all the setbacks I faced recently days like today remind me why I went on this walk.

We made it to Hazelton yesterday. The roads weren't very good but we took it slow and made it safe. Had a great meal at Bonanza. Then it all went nuts.

We came out to find the Blazer would not start. I think it's the fuel pump. So there we was two hours away from home in a snow storm, broke down and pretty screwed.

I call the insurance company to get road side assistance. They couldn't even get a tow truck till morning. We made a few calls and a friend at the show came to our rescue.

We got to the show just before intermission. Second half was good and we managed a little networking.

The trip home was a adventure. 7 people cramped into a wagon. I live the farthest away and was the relay baton lol. Finally home at 1am.

I ate, showered and began trying to get caught up online. Ended up drinking a few and never laid down till 10:30 am.

Scamp woke me at noon then I napped till 3. Got up and watched the race. Made a batch of noodles, they came out great. Planted two peach pits I kept from some a friend gave us last year. Let's see if they will sprout.

Warmer today. Rain coming tomorrow to add to my muddy world.

Thank goodness it's a three day weekend because of President's day!
