How DARE Indigenous protestors (*checks notes*) mildly inconvenience Canadians by demonstrating against (*checks notes again*) an illegal invasion of unceded Wet'suwet'en land in support of an industry that's (*checks notes a final time*) actively working to kill all life on Earth!

Queensland Labor Government has quietly removed native title of 1,385 hectares of Indigenous land for the Adani coalmine, effectively making Indigenous people “trespassers” on their own land - even land used for ceremonial purposes.

Wangan and Jagalingou protestors can be forcibly removed by police. A camp has been set up by W&J Council leader Adrian Burragubba who has been fighting to protect the land. Adani has bankrupted him from legal costs of the battle and he has lost court battles over the issue as Adani obtained an Indigenous land use agreement from four traditional land owners.

Mr Burragubba has been fighting to stop Adani for eight years and maintains that it is his right to occupy the ancestral lands of his people. He’ll continue fighting against the coal mine.

The Adani coal mine will create only 100 ongoing jobs and requires $4.4 billion in subsidies from the government to even be viable, plus will create a massive carbon footprint that threatens the already bleached Great Barrier Reef. The coal mine is being built despite the IPCC report saying we needed to phase out coal and we have 12 years left to avoid a climate change catastrophe. The Adani coal mine has a projected lifespan of 30 years.

Reading about nonwhite cultures and their history irritates me because they made so contributions that white people get credit for.

I was reading about a Persian Muslim scientist named Al-Tusi who wrote a book discussing about the concept of evolution DURING THE THIRTEENTH CENTURY. He discusses about evolution almost 600 years before Darwin and never had I heard about him until I decided to dive into the depths of the internet.

WHITE PEOPLE NEED TO REBLOG THIS

I just wanted to make a post about what’s going on here in Ihumātao, Aotearoa (New Zealand) because I’ve seen absolutely nothing about it here on Tumblr. Just like in Hawaii, with Mauna Kea, we are fighting to protect sacred indigenous land. ✊🏽

Ihumātao is sacred Māori land that was confiscated by British colonisers in the 1800s, through ways of lying, premeditated invasion and attack on the native Māori people. A lie saw the British accuse the Māori of a planned massacre on settlers (even though they’d been the ones feeding and protecting those settlers) eventually leading to the Māori being attacked, their homes and property destroyed and their cattle and horses stolen but then they were also punished by confiscation of their lands for a rebellion that actually never actually took place. Only in recent years, 260 of the 1100 acres of land that was confiscated at Ihumātao, was eventually restored to Māori. A settler named Gavin Wallace bought a piece of land named Ōruarangi in late 1800s from the crown and it’s been in his family since. In 2016 the Wallace family sold it to Fletcher Building as they proposed to build 480 new houses on it. This land has not only historical significant as a Stonefields but cultural and spiritual significance as it is a burial ground for the native Māori.

In Victoria, 200 kilometres west of Melbourne, over 260 trees sacred to the Djap Wurrung peoples - including a traditional birthing tree - have been flagged to be bulldozed in preparation for a $42 million upgrade to the Western Highway.

The plans will duplicate 12.5 kilometres of the highway from Buangor to Ararat and reduce travel time on the route by an estimated two minutes.

The Victorian government subsequently altered the plans for the duplication route in February but campaigners said that it would still impact on culturally significant trees.

Demonstrators set up three camps on the land last month in an attempt to stop roadworks.

An emergency application was also lodged  to protect the trees under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act.

“These beautiful trees include an 800-year-old tree that has seen over 50 generations born inside of a hollow in her trunk and a 350-year-old directions tree that has been shaped and resembles a woman,” the Djab Wurrung Embassy website says.

“This area is part of the song line, the series of scared trees and artefacts we find here regularly prove its significance.”

Black Mother Jailed For Sending Kids To White School District

Kelly Williams-Bolar, an Ohio mother of two, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on  three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in  which they did not live.

The mother was sentenced on Tuesday and will begin serving her sentence immediately. Where is Oprah when you need her?

After the jury deliberated for only seven hours Willams-Bolar was convicted on two counts of  tampering with court records after registering her two girls as living  with their grandfather father who lives in nearby Copley Township. The   family lived in the housing projects in Akron, Ohio. 

Williams-Bolar, who said she was trying to keep her daughters safe, also  runs the risk of being disqualified as a school teacher. She currently  is an aide for special education classes and is near completion of a   college degree that would allow her to become a teacher. Felons in Ohio can be disqualified from working as teachers.

In 1989, George Bush gave a speech about crack. During the speech he pulled out a bag of crack and said “this bag was seized right across the street from the White House in Lafayette park.” Turns out, his speech writers had the idea to pull out a prop during his speech and in order to make it believable they had the DEA plant crack on this random 18 year old black kid. They lured him there. He didn’t even know where the White House or Lafayette park was. When he got there, they arrested them. The plot was discovered by a journalist.

And then Gary Webb killed himself after he revealed that the CIA let crack infiltrate black communities through drug cartels making deals with the CIA. His wife left him and his career was ruined for exposing the drug war as a war against people of color.

There’s a really well done movie called Kill the Messenger (x) I suggest everyone should watch. It was done in partnership with his family and details the events from beginning to end.

Do we know the name of the “random 18 year old black kid” who was framed by the United States Government for a crime he didn’t commit?

Update: His name is Keith Jackson. He has a wife and family now, and lives in the Baltimore/DC area. Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t want anything to do with what happened to him. The charges against him for the Lafayette case were dropped, but he received a 121 month sentence for distributing drugs near a school. Keith Jackson was a senior in high school when he was arrested. He was released from prison in 1998, 10 years later. We have to remember all of the time that was taken from him. We have to remember that he wasn’t just “some random 18 year old black kid.” The government chose him to become a caricature of who they wanted the “enemy” to be in the War on Drugs because he is Black. Remember Webb’s thesis. Remember Keith Jackson’s name. Remember his story.

I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.

When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.

Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.

They’ve also recently discovered a lost Native American city in Kansas called Etzanoa It rivals the size of Cahokia, which was very large as well.

Makes me happy to see people learn about the culture of my country :D

Also, please remember that the idea of a nomadic or semi-nomadic culture being “less intelligent”, “less civilized” (and please unpack that word) was invented by people who wanted to make a graph where they were on the top.

Societies that functioned without 1) staying exclusively in one location or 2) having to make complicated, difficult-to-construct tools to go about their daily lives… were not somehow less valid than others.

This is why I fucking hate it when Europeans make jokes about how they have “more history” than the Americas. “This church is older than your country hahaha.” Actually, it’s older than the country you put there, massacring millions in the process, but go off, I guess.

The Victorians In the mid-1800s were dying of cholera because they just dumped their raw shit in the river Thames. They wouldn’t shower for months at a time because they were afraid of the polluted water.

Incans had created aquaducts in the slopes of the vast Andes mountains to reach the emperor, cities and farmers who used agricultural terraces.

Mayans, Aztecs, and Incans were far more advanced than the savage Europeans.

My history Professor snapped on a class of 200 - 300 students at once because they kept writing in their assignments that Natives to North and South America were less advanced and less civilized than Europeans. She didn’t even bother to say how racist it was past one comment, she then literally listed all the things they said in their assignments and debunked them. In sum, Europeans came to the Americas because their civilizations were dirty, underdeveloped, starved, plagued, impoverished, and war-torn. So, the whole foundation of the idea of the supremacy of Europeans/white ppl and their countries and culture was all fabricated to justify their greed and the reality THEY needed resources, refuge, and knowledge to support themselves and their willingness to commit genocide, instigate conflict, and enslave to do so.

Europe legit spent most of human history as a backwater of civilization, and the only way they got “ahead” at all was through genocide, slavery, and biological warfare

If you’ve haven’t seen this yet, you need to.

It’s really important to know that trespassing and vagrancy laws in the US were more or less made up entirely for this purpose. Until we hit on the idea of rent-a-prisoners as replacements for slave labor, it wasn’t illegal to just hang out in public not doing anything, or wander through someone’s yard on your way somewhere else, or to camp on public land. The very first known enslaved black person in the US was an indentured immigrant named John Punch. We know his name. Indentured labor at the time was either a financial arrangement people either entered into willingly or was a sentence for a crime. Punch and two white men were laborers who attempted to flee their service and were caught. The two white dudes had their sentence extended by one year. Punch was sentenced to a life of servitude.

It started with prison and it’s come back to prison. It’s still prison. This is still happening. It’s not over.
