When he told the people around him about filing a lawsuit, Rensburg said he received a lot of support. "Many lawyers decided to join us in the lawsuit. Many of those who have joined are Muslims, but I am not. They feel obligated to assist this cause, but I believe that what is happening is incorrect." What happened in Iraq is an example of this, he said, noting that no one held the US accountable for the crimes it committed in the Middle Eastern country as the issue was not given the necessary importance. But now people believe what is happening in Palestine is an ideal scenario for the legal process to be carried out, the South African lawyer said, adding that "the US is busy spending more money and more resources to (allow Israel) commit the crime.” “No one says stop, enough is enough," he remarked. Rensburg said the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel at the ICJ will serve as a guide for their case against the US and UK, and that they will begin the process based on the outcome of the case and the steps to be taken by the United Nations.

I want to make sure everyone knows that there were thousands of people gathered to demand the ceasefire amendment be passed. We were there for hours. Four days ago, over a million Britons from all over the United Kingdom gathered in London to march in support of Palestine, the largest protest since 2003.

The votes tonight do NOT reflect the British public. We have made our desire for a ceasefire and an end to Israel's oppressive regime VERY clear, and our UNelected politicians (we did NOT vote for these people, party leadership has changed hands without our consent) do NOT represent us. We are outraged, disgusted, and furious about this.

Please, do not see these votes as reflective of Britains people. These are the votes of a corrupt, unelected, unwanted ruling class.

“The world is full of evil people who do shitty things but I can’t deal with that right now because I have to go and kick a little ball around which those same people love me for. That is until I fuck up or miss a penalty or I decide to fight back and then they’re just going to want to ship me back wherever I fucking came from.”

Following on from Sam’s storyline in episode 7 of Ted Lasso I want to talk about how it relates to football in real life.

Three England players, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho received immense amounts of racial abuse over social media in response to them having missed penalties in the final against Italy during the Euros. 11 arrests were made as part of a hate crime investigation into the messages/posts/comments sent. In addition to this, the mural of Marcus Rashford created in recognition of the work Rashford did during COVID-19 to help tackle child food poverty was vandalised. More information here:

Recently the Alpha United Juniors team based in Bradford reported that children as young as seven received threats of violence and slurs from the sidelines during matches. Abuse like this exists at every level of the game on and offline, in the stands, on grassroots pitches.

It is so important that the severity of this storyline is not overlooked given the relevance of it to both players and fans of football alike. Whether the storyline is continued or not, I am so glad that they have addressed this.

Just as a heads up, you are going to see a LOT of fundraisers coming up in winter for people in the UK to make energy bills. This has been absolutely massive on UKPol twitter but I don't see it coming up here much at all, so, I'm just kind of passing it on.

The long and short of it is the energy price cap - the maximum that can be charged to customers for a specific type of energy contract (dual-fuel, so gas and electric, on a 'typical usage', on a fixed rate contract) - is going up. And it's going up a lot. Way above what people can afford.

It's estimated by January, that price cap might be as high as £5,000 ($6,000) a year, or over £400 ($490) a month. Last October, that cap was only £1,200 ($1450). For a single person, that's almost a quarter of your salary on fuel alone. For some comparisons, my mom only makes £19,000 a year ($23,000) and I only make £13,000 ($15,000)

And that's on a very specific, very secure contract. I use a top-up meter, which often charges way more than we would on a fixed-rate contract, and it's all the poorest households who use top-up meters instead of contracts. Add to that the cost for disabled people to keep equipment running, or other confounding factors, and many, many, many people in the UK are just not going to be able to afford to even keep a light on, never mind cook or heat their homes.

No lights, no cooking, no refridgeration, no heating, no internet, nothing.

This is a national emergancy, and absolutely nothing is being done by our government because it's too busy suffocating on internal squabbling. OFGEM (The energy regulator) won't do anything because of it's own fuck-ups, resulting in it being more interested in keeping profits flowing for energy companies than protecting consumers.

It's going to be a very, very cold, dark, hard winter for people in the UK. If you are in the UK and want to do something to help, there is a Consumer Strike being organised by a group called Don't Pay UK. Get involved if you can, and spread the word if you cant.

It's genuinely upsetting how many notes I've had from people on this post that amount to "We just can't afford it, we're going to freeze/starve/die". As people have pointed out - the bill is going to be a lot higher than £5,000 for many. I've seen someone quoted over £10,000. Meanwhile, energy companies are reporting record profits, so don't let a single person say it's to keep up with the cost of gas. Also, you get less than £400 a month if you're on out-of-work benefits, if you want even more comparison to how prices in the UK work.

I understand people's reservations about Don't Pay UK. But there is a lot you can do to force the hands of the energy companies that does not pose much risk to you. It just takes a little strategy.

Check out Don't Pay UK's FAQ. There is a 28 day window in which you can withold payment without any consequences. You can also lodge a complaint with OFGEM at the same time, which will prevent your energy company from taking action against you - and a million complaints hitting OFGEM at once would cripple the entire administrative system designed to deal with them and would probably make every single energy company fail to meet their obligations to OFGEM at once, as they physically won't be able to respond to every complaint in time.

And for many, you aren't going to be able to afford it anyway. There's nothing else to lose.

For other tips;

There's also this, Heat the Human Not the Home from Martin Lewis, who's been an unexpected champion in all this - cheap ways to heat yourself, even if you can't heat your home. If you're scared of being cold, please check this out first.

British Gas Energy Fund has grants available to "clear domestic gas and electricity debts."***

SSE has info + links for different ways you can get help with energy bills and debts

EDF energy have provided a page with information on how to get financial advice/help via IncomeMax

Please look into everything I've said yourself and make your own decisions. But we really can't sit idly by whilst people freeze to death.
