When I found out Paramount+ was removing Star Trek: Prodigy I bought all 20 episodes of S1 from Amazon Video since that was the only way for me to watch all 20 at the time. On 6/27, I lost access to episodes 10-20. Amazon has done what they can, which isn't much.
All 20 were accessible when I paid for all 20. The full season is what I was buying. Now, I only have access to 9 of the episodes.
What is the point of buying digital content if they're just going to steal it back from you afterwards?! Is this not false advertisement?
Seems appropriate
People don’t seem to realize this. Digital purchases are great until the seller no longer has the rights to the media and suddenly its not yours anymore
Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP
(Non-authors, please RB to signal boost to your author friends!)
An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:
(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)
I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:
IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.
You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:
HOW TO FILE A COPYRIGHT COMPLAINT FOR STOLEN WORK ON AMAZON.COM:
First, go to this form. You'll need to be signed into your Amazon account.
- Select the radio buttons/dropdown options (shown below) to indicate that you are the legal Rights Owner, you have a copyright concern, and it is about a pirated product.
- Enter the name of your story in the Name of Brand field.
- In the Link to the Copyrighted Work box, enter a link to the story on AO3 or whatever site your work is posted on.
- In the Additional Information box, explain that you are the author of the work and it is being sold without your permission. That's all you really need. If you want, you can include additional information that might be helpful in establishing the validity of your claim, but you don't have to go into great detail. You can simply write something like this:
I am the author of this work, which is being sold by [publisher] without my permission. I originally published this story in [date/year] on [name of site], and have provided a link to the original above. On request, I can provide documentation proving that I am the owner of the account that originally posted this story.
- In the ASIN/ISBN-10 field, copy and paste the ID number from the pirated copy's URL. You'll find this ten-digit number in the Amazon URL after the word "product," as in the screenshot below. (If the URL extends beyond this number, you can ignore everything from the question mark on.) Once this number has been added, Amazon will pull the product information automatically and add it to the complaint form, so you can check the listing title and make sure it's correct.
- Finally, add your contact information to the relevant fields, check the "I have read and accept the statements" box, and then click Submit. You should receive an email confirmation that Amazon has received the form.
Please share this information with your writer friends, keep an eye out for/report pirated works, and help us keep fanfiction free and legally protected!
NOTE: All of the above also applies to Amazon products featuring stolen artwork, etc., so fan artists should check too!
Iraqi man cries bitterly at the British Museum when he sees his country’s stolen cultural heritage on display.
Deserves the spread because when they steal it for display it’s not stealing. Trash.
I LOVE THIS PHOTO but it was actually taken in Iraq and shows a man who is overwhelmed by the rediscovery of the Nimrud treasury in 2003, which was feared lost or damaged. A really beautiful (and tragic) photo which shows the effect that preserving cultural identity still has and why efforts to restore artefacts to their original locations where possible should be supported, but not linked to the theft of Assyrian relics by the British Museum.
HE SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH THIS
btw here is another source other than trumpdaily confirming this.
these white demons deadass stole 880k from sick kids to go towards their shitty ass golf resorts and plastic surgery………
Lmao plastic surgery???? It was cheeto dust bet.
From Slate.com, December 26, 2016:
The foundation is currently under investigation by the New York attorney general and won’t be able to close its doors until that has been completed. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman had already ordered the foundation stop taking money because it violated state law.
Trump’s charitable foundation has been at the center of several controversies during the campaign in large part due to a series of stories by the Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold that detailed the organization’s sketchy practices. Even though it has Trump’s name, the foundation largely collects money from other people and hands it out to other charities. In fact, between 2009 and 2014 Trump didn’t give any of his own cash to the foundation. But Trump did seem to benefit from its actions, including the apparent use of foundation money to settle legal disputes.
Also? Under New York law, any charity that solicits more than $25,000 a year from the public must obtain a special kind of registration. Trump never got it. Which means that the Trump Foundation was obtaining money illegally. And here’s confirmation of that from another source.
I don’t know about this scoobs

Fyi, Tumblr calls it misattribution and non-attribution, and you can be reported for it. This includes adding your own promo link to an artist’s work and reposting an artist’s work.
Artists don’t have to be nice about it.

Just hit the submit button on our page, check out the important admin bits herethen submit your best of the best.
And remember to keep checking back to have a look at the competition…

HOW ABOUT YOU PAY AN ARTIST TO MAKE YOUR DESIGNS? YOU CAN AFFORD IT. DON’T COVER UP THE FACT THAT YOU’RE REALLY JUST LOOKING FOR FREE WORK FROM UNSUSPECTING YOUNG IMPRESSIONABLE ARTISTS.
“By submitting your design on the ASOS Tumblr page, you automatically assign all rights in your design to us and you give us and any of our associated suppliers a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence for a term of 3 years to use your image (including comments you submit in connection with any image) on product to sell on the ASOS website(s) and to display the design in any and all media (including, without limitation, on our social media channels, websites and tangible media) without accreditation or notification. If you would like us to remove the design after the end of the term of this licence, our duty to do so will be limited to those channels still reasonably under our control.”
AS CONTESTANTS DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? IT MEANS IN THE EVENT THAT YOU DON’T WIN THEY CAN STILL USE AND MAKE PROFIT OFF YOU. YOUR ART IS THEIRS AND THEY DON’T HAVE TO PAY YOU A CENT.
BECAUSE YOU AREN’T WORTH A PAYCHECK.
Say “NO” to contests like these. Take back your worth.
I went to read the tags hoping it all would be against the contest, but there’s still people considering doing it or asking artists and friends to do it. So I feel it’s still really important to share. Don’t do it!
assign all rights in your design to us: we get to do anything we want with any part of any of your work and you don’t.
any of our associated suppliers: anyone we want to let do anything they want with any part of any of your work gets to too.
royalty free: you’re not going to be paid anything no matter what we slap your design on or how much cash it makes us.
without accreditation or notification: we don’t have to tell anyone that you were the guy who drew the art. hell, we’re not even going to tell you what your art’s used on or in.
if you would like us to remove the design after the end of the term of this licence, our duty to do so will be limited to those channels still reasonably under our control: even when the art is technically ‘yours’ again we’re not going to give half a flying fuck over removing your art from anywhere that’d actually take us any effort.
kids: this is the artistic equivalent of getting in the back of an unmarked van because some guy told you there’d be candy inside
you are going to get SO FUCKED
look at this company trying to be so hipster about exploiting youth
please don’t do this holy shit, don’t give this company anything, your art is worth more than this, which is nothing. they are giving you nothing in return for your work. artists don’t need to undervalue themselves any more than they already do. please do not do this
ok not only all that, but more people will think it’s okay to exploit young artists. even if you don’t care, you’re gonna ruin it for other people trying to get out as designers and illustrators. please don’t do this.
Signal boost on my main account - DO NOT DO THIS.
Stephen Silver has an amazing set of videos explaining why you shouldn’t participate in stuff like this - but if that post explaining the rules doesn’t put you off… It should.

Remember the Goodreads fanfic debaucle? Well, another site is now doing it. I just found 13 of my stories listed over on ebooks-tree.com, a for-profit site where I neither uploaded them nor authorized anyone else to do so.

i just wanted to clarify some things
artists know the risk they are taking when they post their art online. people are inevitably going to take it apart, color edit it, flip it around or otherwise post it uncredited.
saying that an artist shouldn’t post their work if they don’t...
