Don’t get your sex ed from fanfiction!

Get it from

Not even joking, y'all, Scarleteen is an amazing resource that deserves attention and (if you've got the cash for it) donations so they can keep providing thorough education about sex, consent, relationships, etc to folks of all ages who need it.

Here’s a rundown of their general policy, from literally the first article I clicked on just now:

As you might be getting from that, they’re pretty intersex inclusive, too. Here’s a sample of something that’s a little more directly about sex-specific stuff in case you’re thinking “well but they said that was just about pleasure tho”:

They have a lot of sections on their site, but number two is Gender:

“That’s probably just like hetero gender dynamics stuff tho...” Nay nay! Here’s a few of the articles from the first page of their “Gender” section:

Scarleteen was a huge help to me as a trans person. They have a live chat that has sex-ed type folks giving real-time answers, and even just the staff+volunteers who happened to be attending to the live chat were able to help me with weird niche trans problems - a decade ago, when trans people, it seemed, damn near didn’t exist. They are EFFING AWESOME and want to help you!!!!

In addition to LGBTQ+ positivity...

They have a disabled section with stuff for chronic pain. There was a link about navigating consent with non-verbal partners. This is an awesome resource, I've never felt so included.

Thank you for introducing me to it!

This won’t make your blog look ugly. How could you not reblog this? REBLOGGING THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE!!!

This goes for assholes, too, guys. I know a couple who went tubing once, and they had to re-air their tubes, but the guy thought it would be funny to stick the tip of the air compressor up to her bikini trunks, the air ruptured something inside her and she died within thirty minutes.

WHAT?

The thing about this? It’s in every pregnancy book I’ve read.

Why is it in pregnancy books but not sex ed books?

Like seriously I wish we had a more comprehensive sex education program in the U.S. You know how many guys I know who had no idea an unaroused vagina is only 2-3 inches deep? Or that the cervix raises up when aroused to accommodate dick? Or that if a girl is “tight” that generally means she’s not turned on and you’re shitty in bed? Or that the cervix has an entire cycle it goes through throughout the month where is changes hardness, placement in the vagina, wetness? Like, when you’re ovulating your cervix gets soft and raises high up into the vagina and your hormones get you really horny. It’s like natures way of moving the furniture around and fluffing the pillow for dick because it wants to get pregnant. And before menstruation, it gets really hard and low in the vagina. It’s basically inactivating it’s Facebook and saying “I just need some alone time for a few days”

Ladies and gentlemen, take a moment to learn about vaginas. Men, take an interest into your woman’s menstrual cycle!

U.S. Needs better sex Ed because I’m a 23 year old woman and didn’t even know all of this

Hi I had no idea about the cervical cycle.

God bless this post pls share it far & wide

Very informational! Pictures of an entire cycle here

Ok I didn’t know about the cervix thing until recently and I always wondered why sometimes sex would be painful and other times it would be fine.

This is what they don’t teach you in school that you really need to know.

For a growing number of American kids, porn is their sex ed.  Now Pornhub is hoping to offer their audience some more formal lessons in how to be a healthy and happy sexual being.
On Wednesday, the massive adult entertainment destination took the somewhat surprising step of launching the “Pornhub Sexual Health Center.”  They’re hoping the free sub-site will become a go-to resource for some of their 70 million daily users on all manner of topics, including STIs, sexual safety and how to manage relationships.
They’ve chosen Dr. Laurie Betito, a renowned sex therapist, to direct the site and they’ll also be working with a number of doctors, therapists and other experts to offer advice and answer questions.  Corey Price, Pornhub’s Vice President, told Mashable, “Our goal is to provide our visitors with a site that has credible and insightful information, rather than have them scouring the internet.”
While it’s a database they’ll build up over time, a first look reveals they’ve started with the fundamentals — with answers to things like “Babies. Where do they come from?” and “Are there really three holes?”  These might seems almost laughably basic to adult consumers of hardcore porn, but there are a lot of young people for whom these are very real questions.
Price told Mashable they weren’t aiming the content specifically at beginners.  He said they simply want to appeal to “those who are looking for trustworthy sex tips and health advice provided by experts.”  But it seems like they realize this could prove to be an especially valuable resource for their younger audience, who most likely isn’t getting comprehensive (much less sex-positive) sex ed in schools.
There are, of course, plenty of online sexual health and education resources, but for many kids, landing on sites like Pornhub is already their way into learning about sex.  Porn can obviously teach you plenty about the basics and mechanics of intercourse, but there’s a whole range of other things — biology, health, consent, relating to intimate partners, just to name a few — that you won’t pick up from watching videos like “Big tits round asses” or “Sloppy throat games.”
So if they can slide their curious audience over to the PSHC while they’re already on the site, it could function as pretty useful one-stop shop for filling in the blanks left by spotty sex ed classes and the birds and bees talks given by often bewildered parents.

Neat!

Holy shit their section on trans people was actually really good and not what I expected from something hosted by a porn site! If they had a containing various sexualities and whatnot as well, they’ll definitely have a good resource on their hands!

Aw dang I wish I knew this when the teen group I was teaching went over porn.

Today a 16 year old boy was brought into the clinic by his aunt to ‘have the talk’ because his school didn’t teach sex ED and his mother wouldn’t talk to him about sex.

She spent 40 bucks so he could get tested for the first time.

I spent an hour talking to this young boy about sex. I got to have the sex talk with him. I showed him how to properly use a condom and protect himself and his partners. We talked about STDs and pregnancy prevention. We even talked about pubic grooming and ways to avoid razor burn. This poor boy has never had someone talk to him about anything related to the changes his body is going through.

And then we spent 20 minutes talking about consent and how important it is.

Growing up I never, ever had someone talk to me about consent and its importance. I even had sex ED in school!

This shit is important ya’ll.

Planned Parenthood is important

It is the parents’ duty to have “the talk” with their kids, not a government funded organization that murders babies.

First of all fucktruck: I am not a government employee. My wages are not paid by the government.

Second: zero babies have ever been murdered in a planned parenthood.

I didn’t say a god damn word about abortion but you had to get your fucking tighty whiteys in a bunch because an organization that you know nothing about is doing good things for millions of people and you hate it.

Shut your face up about shit you don’t understand you fucking dump truck.

Abortion is murder, just because they’re in the womb doesn’t change the fact you’re killing an innocent human being.

As I said, it’s not a faceless organization’s job to provide sex ed while simultaneously killing unborn children.

Listen up kiddo:

Abortion isn’t murder. Murder is illegal. Abortion is not illegal. IE abortion is not murder.

As i said (and we’ll go with what i said as not total bullshit because it’s obvious you have absolutely no real knowledge when it comes to sex or reproduction and i think we can thank your parents for that) this young man had a single mother that didn’t feel comfortable talking to him about sex. So i did it. I provided medically accurate and up to date information unlike so many parents today.

And by the way, planned parenthood isn’t some shadowy faceless organization.

For example, this is my face. The face i made while reading your stupid ass response.

Get em, Damien

“The new law mandates all school districts that have made health a graduation requirement to lecture students about sexual violence prevention and affirmative consent starting next year. It also urges state education officials to include those topics to their high school health curriculum, Lisa Leff of The Washington Post wrote. The measure did not receive any opposition in the Legislature, and even nearly received a unanimous bipartisan backing.”

About fucking time.

So fucking important

American sex ed is taught like Dolores Umbridge’s Defense of the Dark Arts class.

“Why would you need to know about sex? If you aren’t having it, there will be no need for protection”

okay but this is the most accurate thing i’ve ever seen? amazing.

It happens to children who are more likely to be attacked by someone known to them than a stranger. It happens to children who don’t know that it’s wrong or are told mummy won’t mind if we do this… It happens, almost definitely, in your road. A NSPCC survey found that 1 in 20 young people aged 11 to 17 had experienced sexual abuse. […] Then there’s the recently-released figures which show 800 under-10s have been accused of sex crimes since 2009. One boy aged four was investigated for rape. A girl aged nine took indecent photographs of other children. A three-year-old boy sexually assaulted another child. These are children whose sex education has already begun – at the hands of an abuser or a pornographer or a very poor parent. They are acting out what has been done to them or what they have been exposed to, with horrific effects on others. […] Children of all ages act as carers, clean, witness violence, go hungry to feed younger siblings, learn to inject life-saving drugs, and other things that in an ideal world they wouldn’t have to do. If, on top of all that, we leave them in ignorance about sex, rape, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, how exactly does it help them?

I wish sex education was better like most penises are under six inches and there are all kinds of vulvas and that weird thing you like probably isn’t that weird and almost everyone is recovering from some kind of damage and needs to be treated with care and respect. I guess that’s not sex ed. Bodies and people are weird and gross and amazing and it shouldn’t be this fraught thing to talk about.
