John Boyega the LOST Protagonist

Let’s talk about John Boyega and when Disney Lucasfilm did to him

There was a promise Disney Lucasfilm made when they cast John Boyega as Finn, the male lead & co-protagonist of the sequel trilogy. They broke that promise & this is a conversation we need to have. John Boyega & Finn deserved better

For the longest time I wondered if people still cared about what happened to John Boyega. I wondered if the racism of Disney Lucasfilm had just gone unnoticed, but to my surprise, lots of people still do care. 

So I wanted to go over what actually happened to John Boyega and his experience with Disney Lucasfilm.

Especially after this most recent tweet of theirs:

Where was this energy for John Boyega? Kelly Marie Tran? Naomi Ackie? 

I support this sentiment but considering where this is coming from, the people who did nothing for Naomi Ackie, Kelly Marie Tran, Thandie Newton and participated in the racism against John Boyega by sidelining him, and mistreating every black character, this feels performative

So with that being said, I made this video where I recounted everything that Disney Lucasfilm did to John Boyega. 

I want people to know this story. I want people to know what John Boyega went through. I want people to know what John Boyega meant when he said his experience in Star Wars was based off his race:

I think the reason why Kylo is so hard to sympathize with his because the character Finn exists.

Kylo was born with wealth, privilege, a loving family, and Force powers. Finn was an enslaved child soldier with no family and nobody who cared about him.

Kylo may have been influenced by Snoke but he was also influenced by Luke, Leia, Han, and Jedi values. Finn grew up hearing nothing but First Order propaganda.

Yet when the time came for them to make a choice Finn made the right one and Kylo made the wrong one. Finn chose not to murder innocent people while Kylo did multiple times.

That’s the tea, y'all.

its kind of disappointing how everyone turns rey into some soft, clean aesthetic queen with glitter and pale pink fabrics when in canon rey is a greasy girl icon 

fanon rey: soft, smells like roses, always wearing glitter, no bad angles, pale smooth fabric queen canon rey: doesnt know what a hairbrush or makeup is, steals fries off your plate, will fight you in a parking lot  

If I hung out with Rey we would have fart contests

that is the best addition to any post, sw-related or not

please consider that poe thinks hygiene is wiping down with the least greasy rag and rey just kind of scrubs off with some sand when she gets too crusty and finn is used to an absolutely scrupulous twice-daily hygiene regimen with water and sonic and specially formulated deodorants because you don’t want Army Stonk building up in a spaceship, or, god forbid, your armor. so he like, he loves poe and rey to death. he loves them. but he just watched poe try to explain the Sniff Test to rey, unsuccessfully, and he is kind of screaming internally now.

both rey and poe are in awe of how soft and sweet-smelling finn is and he’s like “listen it’s an ancient stormtrooper secret called WASH YOUR SOCKS WITH SOAP.”

I will honestly never forgive y’all for going crazy over kylo ren. like u literally had poe and finn and u chose kylo. that’s like saying u would fuck jar jar binks over anakin or obi. rip to ur taste in men but I am different

I mean HONESTLY

this isn’t just a complaint taste in guys.

all those painfully straight white girls thirsting over the space nazi is why the trilogy went as badly as it did.

we were supposed to get an amazing story with a woman, a black man, and a Latino man as the main characters. Who fight against evil and oppression.

instead because y'all went wild for the guy who killed his father in cold blood. And now we have two complete disaster sequels about him.

I want to add that this is why corporations are not allies or friends; their support is hollow. the minute lucasfilm thought that the fashy white fuckboi had more fans than finn, they went for reylo.

if lucasfilm had had any kind of artistic integrity, they would have ignored the thirst for the mediocre looking genocider and pushed ahead with finn/rey, which would have meant a wayyy better story for both of them.

so I definitely get blaming the kyle ron stans but always remember that no matter how racist those stans were to john boyega, lucasfilm was like… okay but will it get butts in seats?

they really gave us a female lead in a star wars movie & made her kind and good and angry and powerful and complex & then spent the next 2 movies revolving almost her entire storyline around a white male war criminal who abused her, abused her friends, abused her family. all the while validating all the people who romanticized gaslighting and torture. for fan service lmao 

they also gave us a strong black male lead who was kind and rebelled against his entire way of life when he saw the atrocities he was expected to take part in. He risked his life to save others and was shown to love and care deeply for his friends and willing to sacrifice himself to save him. Then the next two movies infantilize him to be this weak self preserving side character with literally no agency beyond yelling other character’s names.

They also gave us a Latino sci-fi hero who was an ace fighter pilot with a heart of gold and a wealth of courage who showed an incredible amount of support and kindness and trust towards a man who he had just met. Then the next two movies relegated him to being a chronic fuck-up and then ret-conned his ace pilot backstory in service of a racist drug dealer backstory to make him more like Han Solo

“Kylo is bad because he had to share his parents with the resistance.”

“Kylo is bad because he was neglected and had a bad childhood.”
