a little more information regarding the maui wildfires:
- medical workers on the ground are describing finding hundreds of bodies. the current death toll in the media is, unfortunately, only a fraction of the reality
- hospital workers are describing injuries and trauma as if survivors had come out of a warzone
- thousands are still missing
- an apartment complex for the elderly was lost. not everyone could get out. people were saying goodbye to loved ones over the phone
- people who did get out of lahaina were leaving with ashes covering their faces and nothing but the clothes on their backs. people are losing everything.
hotels are still operating. hotels are still operating. they are not the ones offering shelters or housing or food. even bowling alleys are offering shelter, but hotels have the audacity to build on burial sites but not open their doors to local families who have lost everything.

this man, abdul aziz, father of four, was at the new zealand mosque when the shooting happened and had nothing on him but a credit card reader that he picked up to throw at the terrorist. then, after dodging bullets, he hurled an empty gun he found at his windshield and shattered it, scaring him off and preventing many more lives from being taken. that’s an act of pure selflessness—his name deserves to be heard. there’s still good in the world.

people in turkey, my thoughts are with you. please stay safe.
I don’t quite understand what is happening or who is right or who is wrong, i can only hope that everything will be ok. i hope you are all ok.
Wow, just checked, they’re starting a Coup in Turkey, military is trying to take over. This can mean a few things, a couple that comes to mind is they might be stopping how some of the government has let ISIS fly under the radar in Turkey, or it could be them promoting it more. All I know is i hope Turkish Citizens stay safe and the outcome is positive. Erdogan has been a thorn in the side to many for a bit.
Canada loses an entire city due to wild fire -- Yes you read that correctly.
Within the last week Canada has lost an entire city due to wild fire and it is rapidly spreading, and expected to double in size. Fort McMurray has been ablaze all week and the fire is spreading towards Saskatchewan. Attempts to put the fire out have been failing because the fire is so hot water it is evaporating before it can do any good.
Dry and extremely windy conditions are fueling the blaze, which has already scorched more than 1,560 square kilometers (602 square miles) and displaced tens of thousands of people.
These people are no longer evacuees … They’re refugees.
Rain is to be expected next week, but a downpour is needed to tame a monstrous fire – which is the size of Hong Kong and is almost 25% bigger than New York City – that has displaced about 88,000 people, wiped out 1,600 structures including homes, schools and hospitals, and sent plumes of smoke as far away as Iowa.
Here is a link if you want to help, please share this, this is a huge tragedy and these people need help.
These aren’t screen captions from a movie this is happening RIGHT NOW less than 1000 miles away from my own home.
This shit is real. Many were given less than 15 mins to evacuate. There are videos of people fleeing the city and the smoke and flames are advancing faster than the traffic is moving. I have friends and family that have lost everything, their pets, homes, vehicles, photo albums. Please signal boost this.
President Obama, on the mass shooting in San Bernadino, California (via iwriteaboutfeminism)
This is the 336th day of the year. As of today, we’ve had 352 mass shootings.
Ian Mercer, father of the man who killed nine people and wounded nine others at Umpqua Community College, spoke to CNN Saturday. In the interview Mercer called the event “devastating” and explained he was still trying to understand it, but he took the time to issue a passionate call for the U.S. to restrict access to firearms.
More than 1,400 dead as magnitude-7.8 quake rocks Nepal
A powerful earthquake — the country’s worst in 80 years — rocked mountainous Nepal on Saturday, killing more than 1,400 people and leveling buildings and centuries-old temples. Dozens if not hundreds remained trapped under mounds of rubble.
Hospitals in the capital of Katmandu were so crowded that many of the injured were treated outside in the open, according to local media. The magnitude-7.8 quake, which shook a wide swath of northern India and Tibet, also triggered avalanches in the Himalayas, killing at least eight people at Mount Everest’s base camp.
Nepal police said at least 1,457 people were killed.
Outside Nepal, at least 20 people were also killed in India, six in Tibet and two in Bangladesh. Two Chinese citizens died at the Nepal-China border. Given the scale of the destruction, the death toll is almost certain to rise, said Laxmi Dhakal, Nepal’s Home Ministry official. (x)
If you can please donate to the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund!
You can also donate to the American Red Cross by texting “redcross” to 90999. That text will result in a $10 donation to the disaster relief fund.
