In addition to Snuff, which involves the murder and enslavement of goblins being taken seriously as evil, Pratchett wrote Unseen Academicals, in which one of the main characters is of a fantasy race expected to be mindless killers, but who was taken in and raised to be very gentlemanly by an aristocratic woman. His character arc involves learning of his violent ancestry (the details of which were hidden from him) but also learning that he doesn’t need to make himself completely small and perfectly inoffensive to deserve respect and love. Pratchett also wrote in several books but particularly Thud! about the racism and misunderstandings faced by trolls, another race expected to be evil and brutish.
Yeah read Pratchett instead.
