i gotta remember this
(Pictures below)
hey wait! i know you! we used to be chained next to each other in the cave! wow, so good to see you, how are ya? man. remember how we used to talk about the shadows on the wall together. gosh that was a long time ago. but hey. sure is one heck of a sun out here, right? it's good to see you.
I don’t think we talk enough about how, despite the presence of multiple globes, PotC takes place on a flat earth, ice wall included.
I'm gonna need some elaboration here
They literally sail over the edge of it after passing through a hole in a wall of ice. They fall off. They get back to the other side by passing through the whole ocean.
But also there’s a globe on, like, everyone’s desk.
You get it.
No, but this is actually (sort of) canon.
See, part of the conceit of the PotC trilogy is that all myths are true. Nearly every supernatural element in the franchise has a root in some real world mythology or pirate lore, although some of them are mashed together.
Another thing is that they take place at the end of the Golden Age of Piracy, and the more the map gets filled in, and the more the Royal Navy takes power, there less room there is for the mystical and supernatural in the world. This is explicitly called out in At World's End with the death of the kraken:
Barbossa: The world used to be a bigger place. Jack: The world's still the same. There's just... less in it.
The only way to access the world of the supernatural is through the supernatural itself. You can only get to the Isla de Muerta with Jack's compass that points to whatever you desire, or if you already know where its is. You need Tia Dalma's map to find the edge of the world. To access the supernatural, you need to already be immersed in it.
The pirates world isn't flat, it's round - but because the edge of the world exists in myth, it therefore exists in reality. The pirates are able to find it through supernatural means, but if, say, someone like Norrington just sailed in the same general direction, he wouldn't end up in the same place.
“Pirate” is a mage subclass fueled by word of mouth, rule of cool, The Power of Belief/Love/Friendship, and rum.

hi!!!!! i’m an actual librarian who has encountered this very situation before!!!!! and while i commend & admire op’s willingness to help another patron, this is why you really really should have a library worker, not another patron whom you don’t know, assist you with tech & information related issues in the library!!! because we are trained in how to handle this exact sort of thing
tl;dr: use proton mail. i’m not gonna gatekeep this info. it does not require a cell phone number, so it’s my go to for patrons in this situation!!! while i am acutely aware of the harm done by the digital divide & how many people are getting left behind as our world gets increasingly tech dependent, the situation is not hopeless. there ARE provisions in place to help the people most affected, and those provisions are usually wearing glasses & cardigans & sitting behind the circulation desk
librarians are not glorified bookworms!!!! we are information professionals who are highly trained in how to handle these sorts of seemingly impossible binds!!!! ask us for help!!!!!! as i always tell my patrons, that’s what i get paid the big bucks for

Your first or main Rook
If you see a post talking about problems related to a behavior you do (or problems related to not doing something) and your first and only reaction is to rant about how the post is insensitive to your very specific circumstances which make changing your behavior impossible, consider:
- Not everything is about you and this might just be one of those things.
- That is also the reaction of every person in the history of humanity who simply didn't want to change their behavior. Everyone has extenuating circumstances. The worst person you know has internally compelling reasons for their behavior. The challenges that you personally experience will always feel like a reasonable excuse for your behavior because they're the things you personally are experiencing. The consequences of some behaviors are mild enough that extenuating circumstances can excuse them (see #1). The consequences of others are bad enough that it is necessary, if one wants to live a decent life in this world, that you figure out a way to change regardless. It is your personal responsibility to figure out the difference between these and take the appropriate actions. Here's a hint: the more emotionally attached you are to your excuse, the more likely it is that it's excusing a behavior that needs to change.
- Insisting that OP needs to provide explicit instructions for how to start or stop the behavior for someone in your very specific circumstances is unreasonable and probably annoying.
Post: People who put celery in chili are evil you're my enemy
Reply: OP I have a rare dietary condition that requires me to consume 10lbs of celery per day if I didn't put celery in it I'd never be able to eat celery
Issue: #1, maybe the post just isn't about you
Post: People have got to stop calling the cops on Black teenagers who are just goofing off, you're gonna get someone killed. Either ignore them or go talk to them yourself if you're that concerned about their behavior.
Reply: OP I got attacked and almost killed by teenagers and now I have PTSD that is triggered when I see groups of teenagers regardless of race. I literally can't go talk to them without having a panic attack and so I have to call the police to deal with the issue.
Issue: #2, no you don't get a pass on this one. Your PTSD does not give you a pass to endanger the lives of other people. Your feelings are not more important than someone's life, even when you irrationally feel your life is in danger. Go to therapy or a support group, do internal work, have a friend you can call to help you - whatever the solution, it's your responsibility to find a way to change that behavior.
Post: Other drivers need to keep their cars in the lane lines! I need to not have near death experiences every commute please!
Reply: OP I would love to keep my car in the lane but I have an old shitty car that randomly jerks the wheel out of my hands and causes me to swerve. I can't afford a new car or a mechanic and I have to drive to get to work. What is someone in my situation supposed to do to stay in the lines??
Issue: #3, oh my God shut UP
the main problem with this time of year is the irresistible urge to get fully into bed at like 5:34 pm and outside is like yesss, yesss do it, it's what you deserve yesss. like is it depression or is it just november
If you don’t let go of your prejudices and past grudges, your heart won’t blossom. 2013 is coming, let’s make a change. We only have one planet so let’s show each other some kindness.
The onion buying Infowars is the best possible scenario. They actually understand how to report on alex, and they'll know what to do with his assets.
And remember: Alex does not get a dime from the sale. Everything goes to paying the Sandy Hook victim families.
