I love how direct first (? i think) flirt line for davrin is. just straight up telling him you're up to elf + warden d 😭😭😭
i know it's supposed to be sexy but the extended hunting metaphor bit cracks me up every time, rook can't say 'hi i like you :)' it's always 'what would you do if i was a deer and you found me in a trap with a broken leg and i was trying to bite you'
ok just finished the final quest for Lucanis and like... this is what I mean about the Lucanis/Neve thing and how it should have been Neve/Bellara
Bioware makes no effort of convincing us of this relationship being legit beyond very easily missable cutscenes (i.e. the cutscene where Lucanis out of nowhere is making a dessert for Neve which you can easily miss if you have a flirtation with Lucanis active). They don't seem to have any interactions as friends. And in my playthrough, literally the first I'm hearing that Lucanis has any remote interest in a relationship with Neve is just now, after 100+ hours of gameplay, he is listing the people he cares about, and mentions Neve's name.
Before this, the literal only interaction beyond party banter is a scene where he confronts her about brewing coffee wrong where he's overreacting and she's dismissive. It doesn't read as flirtation unless you squint. And then you're confronted with the choice between Minrathous and Treviso and there's a tense understanding between them. And I'm someone who would go to the Lighthouse after every side quest to see what banter was happening, and maybe it's unlucky coincidence, but even then, I never found the two of them specifically having idle banter around the Lighthouse.
And this isn't a critique on either Neve or Lucanis bc I adore them both, but this really is the most heteronormative "because they were both there" ship I have seen. It's like if Mass Effect decided that, if you romance Liara, they're gonna put Ashley and Kaidan together.
And idk if someone actually enjoys their dynamic I won't take that away from you, but it's really just not a convincing relationship in my opinion.
(and before u say "oh you like Lucanis ofc you don't want him with Neve" like, there's actually other relationships for Lucanis which feel like they have a more natural build-up like Davrin or Harding, and ones with Neve which also have a more natural build-up like Bellara or also Harding--who I just ship with everyone actually)
There is more depth in Taash's misunderstanding if the relationship dynamics between Neve and Lucanis (mage, mage killer, maybe she's into being hunted, etc) than in the Lucanis and Davrin beef. It's so frustrating, there was so much potential, but even the baseline pettiness of it falls flat.
it's SOO crazy how there'll be a nugget of good writing hidden somewhere that makes you see where the companions' relationships could have gone if they were good and then suddenly the scene has moved on and you have to go and headshot another dozen venatori
I'm gonna put him in my pocket
-Varric didn't recruit him he was just passing by Minrathous and interrupted the ritual by accident. They just keep him around cause he has Solas in his brain. Neve and Harding are co-leads of the team.
-Brings total rancid vibes to the found family friendship group
-He does none of the companion quests because no one likes him, but he has all the factions at 3 stars cause he is good at killing things (and that's most of the missions let's be reals)

okay let me actually do lucanis act 2 quest now tho and ill see how i feel about him after
society if veilguard had been made by people who actually like dragon age
Lucanis' beef with Davrin is basically "you have the blight and will die, ur annoying" and Davrin doesn't like that Lucanis kills people for coin and is wary of the demon, I did not catch anything deeper in the like 80ish hours I've played the game for. They tease and make jabs at each other which is fun ig? The conflict doesn't feel genuine and it's the main one we're meant to take seriously?? I genuinely have to be missing smth. da2 adds the worldbuilding to the characters and their dynamics which makes it much more interesting, you can feel how the world and it's politics have shaped people and understand why certain characters butt heads or outright hate each other AND why most people aren't totally wrong and are at least understandable in their views if not justifiable, the characters feel like people with flaws who have been influenced by their experiences, DaV doesn't really do anything?? Everything and everyone is so shallow, there's no genuine head butting or conflicting world views cause there's like no world views. The "mage killer" assassin actually only kills evil bloodmages who are all evil cultists and are a basic enemy that spawn everywhere, and none of the mages on the team care about it. People were thinking they were gonna get another fenris with the "mage killer" title lol.. i love da2 😭😭
it's soooo surface level, i keep waiting for the conflict to evolve into something but it's just the same conversation over and over... it feels like they have the bones of something interesting but where is the MEAT.
i think it really is caused by flattening the worldbuilding tbh. like yeah mage killer who was possessed by a demon, there are sooo many things you can do with that. BUT because there's so little context for possession (they mention it can usually only happen to mages but forget the fact that the south has like an entire prison system and army built because people are afraid of abominations) it feels like a very generic possession story that could happen in any other fantasy game. what if he DID have complicated feelings about magic, what if he claimed to only target evil mages but his grasp on good and evil had been eroded over years of killing. what if the mages in the party didn't instantly believe him and relax when he told them he only kills blood mages. and every character seems to have this same problem aside from taash.
vampire marcus/werewolf anders. one whose whole thing is biting + one who's whole thing is AGHGHGHGHG (forgive me there's no word that i can describe anders with...)
vampire marcus would change very little about his character tbh since he's already weird and drinks blood... and anders would hate being a werewolf but hating his life IS kind of a fundamental aspect of anders' whole thing
is anders a biter if marcus loved to bite. tooth for a tooth
marcus is a reaver so he's a LITTLE apprehensive about biting anders even gently as a joke because it just feels wrong to put his teeth around someone affectionately... but anders has the boundaries of someone who grew up in a packed dormitory and is annoying so he definitely bites sometimes when he wants attention. it would probably be irritating for anyone else but marcus finds his blunt teeth and inability to tear apart flesh funny
ive seen multiple people say things like this and it's making me feel crazy. in what world are the veilguard dynamics anywhere near as interesting or complex as fenris and anders .
gnawing marcus rn (affectionately)
this would confuse him like when you try to lick a cat or bark at a dog.....he loves to bite
The famous foreshadowy banter between Nathaniel and Justice
Do you know if we get the option to talk to tarquin about being trans if we're also trans bc I am dyinggggg. Bioware PLEASE let me chat up my fellow trans men I'm begging you.
im completely blanking rn but i THINK we can talk to him about it...
this has probably been asked before but whats between marcus and justice
it's KIND of hard to pin down, i mean what i've been saying about enjoying anders and justice being emotionally inseparable so it's kind of hard to say - they're the same person to marcus so he doesn't really feel the need to earn justice's favour once he has anders'. there's maybe a little tension there at first -justice is the distrustful side of anders and is the reason he pulls back from marcus or acts out, justice is also super aware of anders' negative experiences with nonmages, which makes him more reactive and jumpy when marcus acts unpredictably. but after a while together marcus is no longer a threat AND is clearly 'just' (treating anders well), so that protective justice side of him doesn't react so often when marcus is around because he knows anders is safe with him. marcus also really respects the passive traits justice shared with anders (being argumentative, not backing down, etc) so when justice DOES act out dangerously and anders threatens to hurt people he generally keeps a cool head and knows now to deal with it. ofc all this happens after a looot of trial and error and arguments lol. also marcus thinks it's hot when anders gets angry enough to start glowing
HOW ANDERS AND MARCUS DOING are they together, did they separate their ways, is markus sheltering an apostate bf. are they happy together and have insane gay sex because gods know they deserve it
things are uncertain and turbulent for a looong time with them just because of how difficult their situation is, but as of a few years after the events of dai they are married and live in a little cottage on the outskirts of some village <3 anders is accepted as an apostate healer after saving the life of a child in the village while marcus helps out with random farm work and everyone loves his weird autism creature ass. they have a kitty cat and grow their own herbs for poultices.
