I’m uncharacteristically a few days late with this, but: yes please.
It doesn’t matter where you came from, who believed in you, and who didn’t. This is our time, this is our chance to make a difference! Now let’s get it done!

HERE IS THE FANART I PROMISED it’s babby’s first giant robot art so let’s not talk about that part, I’m just happy enough that it looks vaguely like that giant metal thing from the movie okay
but yeah I was just really excited to express my appreciation for this movie even though it’s totally outside of my normal aesthetic SO I HOPE Y’ALL LIKE IT ALSO PLEASE GO SEE PACIFIC RIM OKAY THANK
and if you’re interested, you can get prints here!
The old fanart was recently tweeted by del Toro - “encapsulates EXACTLY the reason why I did the film“ - so I decided it needed to be on my blog again.
This is super cool! Animator Jeremie Carreon made a very old-school Super Robot style intro for Pacific Rim.
just because del toro isn’t directing or writing pacrim 2 himself, it does not mean he does not have a significant part in the film’s creation. he’s still a producer on the film and producers have a great deal of power for what happens, so. yeah. don’t give up hope y’all.
Also Mary Parent and Thomas Tull are coming back for producing, so that’s encouraging. I just hope they keep Guy Davis and Kate Hawley for the sake of production design continuity.
Yeah, and as much as we like to focus on the actors, keep an eye on the pre-production team. They’re really gonna set the tone of this thing.
More deets. Yeah, it’s a shame del Toro won’t be able to write/direct, but if we get a lot of the rest of the team back and have him steering the ship we can still get something great. Cautious optimism is the order of the day.
(Also who knows, if the hype ramps up and/or the sequel does well maybe we’ll actually get that animated series that was in the works earlier...)
Play the mix at the top, it’s amazing.
Striker Eureka in 500 Lego pieces, by Jason Corlett. Love it.
STEVEN UNIVERSE...and Monsters?!
Some after Halloween left overs! Here’s a peek at more series development that I did for the amazing Rebecca Sugar’s show, STEVEN UNIVERSE! Along with concept for the Crystal Gems Temple and an early (and unsavory) design for Steven’s Lion, I also worked on some early monster designs with Rebecca which you can see below!
The first pass at the monsters the Crystal Gems would fight were mostly gag and shape based without any story attachment. The gem motif wasn’t part of the design sense yet, just creature mutations with the gems hidden inside.
Next with Rebecca’s direction, the monsters started incorporating the gems into their eyes and bodies!
These early ideas never went pass the initial rough sketches I did, but more incredible monsters would be coming from Rebecca and her team to give Steven and the Crystal Gems many seasons of monster fighting ahead! Check back for more early SU monsters in a future post!
Early Steven Universe monster designs from the guy who designed monster for Pacific Rim? Yes good. Also he did the awesome Gem Temple design, and check out his creepy unused Lion in the links near the top.
