This is an idea for a writing event I've been chewing over for a week or so, and recently put to the public. The polls aren't closed yet, but there has been enough support I'm going ahead with making a blog for it.

This is a fun writing challenge, to encourage creativity. There are no prizes but your own satisfaction, and the love of your readers. :)

No, I am not trying to usurp Comfortember (which I thought for sure was in September??) the already established writing event to follow up Whumptober. This is just an alternative, with a greater variety of prompts, and prompt schedules.

So current factoids:

Who: You can call me Rain, and this is open to anyone.

What: a writing event (would love to include art too maybe?) centered around gen (platonic) relationships and hurt/comfort (leaning into the comfort) scenes. Fanfic and original work welcome.

When: November

Where: anywhere you post fanfic! But this blog will only reblog writing or links from here on tumblr. An Ao3 collection could be possible, though I've never made one before.

Prompts: There will be three levels of prompts, to help you set realistic goals for yourself, and hopefully let you participate without the guilt of not making every day!😘 There will be Daily, Weekly, and a single Month prompt groups. Each prompt group will consist of three words or short phrases, and a line of dialogue. The prompt for the month will also include a song to draw inspiration from. You can use ANY of the prompts in the group for the day/week, from one to all of them! I am hoping to have the three prompt words/phrases in each day/week work on a scale from hurt/comfort, to comfort, to straight up fluff. So you can pick whatever you're feeling, or use all of them in the progression of your work! Or if you want to continue some of those Whumptober fics with recovery and hugs and cuddles...👀 (Hoping being the operative word here, we'll see what the brainstorming sessions with friends turn up!) Also hoping to give each week a theme, which can be encapsulated in the weekly prompt?? Maybe?? We'll see!!

Works: can be any length, from five sentences, to ficlets, to a whole chapter fic/novel mashing all the prompts together! Both fanfic and original writing are welcome. They do not have to be written or posted in order, just make sure to tag which day/weeks prompts you're using.

Content: This is supposed to be centered around gen or platonic relationships (friends, siblings, parent-child, mentor-student, neighbours, soldiers, other familial bonds, a garbage truck driver and the kid who waves at him every day, etc. even people and their pets). Romantic relationships can be in the background, but I'm really looking for friends, family, and countrymen to take centre-stage here. I would ask the writing be kept PG-13 or lower on the maturity scale. :) Or at least this blog will not reblog or recognize anything with explicit content.

HEY EVERYONE

Want to know who might be interested in participating in a writing event, either October or November or even December?

It would be a comfort theme, and have daily and weekly prompts depending on how much writing you feel capable of. Actually I'd even have a prompt for the whole month if you only feel up to writing one thing! Each day/week would feature three single word prompts and a dialogue prompt. The single prompt for the month would also include a song to draw inspiration from.

It would also be a GEN event, platonic relationships only (preferably not even pre-relationship).

Yes, original works would be welcome!

I don't know what to call this yet, I'm just checking out the interest level.

Let me know! And if there's more than a dozen yeses to this, I'll make it happen!

Yes, in the early 21st century we often consider people we only interact with over social media as friends, even if we have never met them in real life. And that's why I have not only reblogged this post, but also liked it (by clicking a button with my mouse).

While I am not a mutual (someone who follows and is followed by a user) of any of the above users, I, too, quite enjoyed this post as a writer (someone who writes) and am very happy that you saw it fit to post it on here, this website being tumblr, a social media site as one of the previous users mentioned earlier. As a result, and to make your post more true, I have decided to reblog (that is, sharing this post with my own mutuals on my own blog, hence the term re-blogging) as I find it both humorous to read and necessary if I am to continue writing with exposition.

The Chesterton Challenge: Official Announcement

G.K. Chesterton was an extremely prolific writer and artist with a vast lifetime output of just about every kind of writing there is--novels, essays, articles, poems, biographies, short stories, etc.

His birthday is in May.

To honor both of these things, the Inklings Challenge blog is going to devote the month of May to hosting the Chesterton Challenge.

The Challenge

The Chesterton Challenge is an event that challenges Christian creatives of all kinds to create something every day of May--be it a story, drawing, poem, doodle, meal, sculpture, sentence, puppet, essay, scribble, portion of a project, whatever. If it involves making something, it counts.

Every day throughout May, there will be a post on the Inklings Challenge blog with a completely optional prompt to inspire creative works. People can then reblog that post either showing us or telling us about what they created that day.

Participants may interact with as many or as few days as they like, and are welcome to join in at any point during the month.

Any questions may be directed to the Inklings Challenge blog via ask or DM.

Can I solicit some feedback from my writer/reader friends?

I've been struggling to keep going with my original novel, kind of because it's been cooking in my head too long and kind of because it's hard to get in the flow of writing.

Camp NaNo is starting up, and I thought maybe I set myself a 30k word goal and post a snippet every day to keep myself accountable.

Would anyone be interested in seeing that??

I'd say go for it!! I have a couple of original works that I need don't work on bc of plot (tho I'll definitely write snippets if I have the energy ha ha!) and if you think that NaNo will help, then I say do it!! At best, you have 30k written of your novel (wow!!) and at worst, you have a few words down (still progress!!).

And what is tumblr for if not random snippets?? I say if that's something you wanna do, go for it.

Why is it I can read other people’s writing and give them great advice and clearly see what they need to add or fix. But I go over my own and I’m like, I know this needs some editing, but where? How? Why? What do I do? It takes some detachment in order to edit I suppose. Something to work on.

yes critical analysis of media is super valuable but I think suspension of disbelief isn't practiced enough

"the beginning relied so much on fate/chance meetings/a bizarre set of circumstances that could have solved the conflict if avoided" babe that's an inciting incident

to reiterate my point more clearly: suspension of disbelief and understanding conventions of storytelling is critical analysis while nitpicking like you're cinemasins is just annoying
