Finding & Appealing Flags

So... I keep seeing posts with elaborate work-arounds for how to find your flagged posts and ask for appeals, but it doesn’t need to be that hard.

Step One: Find a flagged post. Now that flagged posts are hidden entirely, they’re actually even easier to spot than they were before. They look like this:

Step Two: Open the Post in a New Tab. Just click on the date there, right under the “Learn More” link. That’s all you gotta do. You don’t even HAVE to open it in a new tab; that just makes it easier not to lose your place if you’re looking through a tag for flagged posts.

Step Three: Get the Post Number. It’s the big ol’ number in the middle of the web address. See?

Step Four: View the Post on your dashboard’s sidebar. Wait, how do you do that? Easy. Visit the link below, substituting YOUR blog name for mine and YOUR post number for mine:

Your flagged post will pop up on the sidebar of your dashboard, where you can see the post, determine if it’s flagged erroneously or not, and...

Step Five: Ask for an appeal. Just push the button on the flag and request an appeal.

If you want to edit the post in any way, the address is similar to the above - but everything between Tumblr’s base address and the post number is simply replaced with “edit” so it would look like this:

image

...and that’s all there is to it!

Now, you’re likely to run into a lot of posts that aren’t YOUR posts. Sometimes, they’ll have an “APPEAL” button on them - and you can appeal them just as you do your own posts, and they’ll be restored just the same as if you were the OP!

But sometimes... there IS no appeal button. In those cases, do the OP a solid and drop them a message to let them know about it and tell them how they can access the post on their own sidebar to ask for an appeal. You can get the link for them by clicking on their name either at the top of the post (if you reblogged it directly from them) or before their caption/text in the body of the post (if they added a caption/text).

I still don’t know how to delete flagged reblogs from inactive/deactivated accounts (since they’ll obviously never ask for an appeal), so if anyone knows how to do that, please let me know! Currently, I am simply erasing all tags from the post and tagging them “flagged” so they won’t show up in my blog’s navigational tags, but can be easily found to be deleted/edited later.

About this Protest...

I’m taking part in it.

Or, rather, I should say I’m planning to take part in it.

I’m going to try my best to stay off of this site for a full 24 hours straight, but you know what? I also might end up tossing those intentions out the window and showing up here... and I’ll tell you why.

I suffer from severe anxiety. I don’t know when or if a panic attack or a highly anxious state might hit me. And, often, when one does spring up, all I can do is take my meds and try to distract myself until they kick in and/or the spell passes.

And one of the things I use to distract myself is Tumblr.

As much as I applaud this protest, support everything it stands for, and fully intend to do my best to take part in it... I also know I might fail at it. And I doubt I’m alone in that. I’m sure there are a LOT of people on this site who struggle with mental or physical disabilities and use Tumblr (and the friends they’ve made here!) to help them cope.

So let’s all try to keep that in mind over the next 24 hours or so. Being on this site on the 17th doesn’t mean someone doesn’t support the protest, and anyone who IS on the site over the next 24 hours does not deserve any kind of judgment or nastiness if they are unable (or simply unwilling!) to take part.

Be tough. Be firm. Get the message across to the site.

But always, always, always... be good to each other.

For all my fellow Killian Whumpers who are also on Pillowfort, I have created a community titled The Killian Jones Dungeon.

He’s all strung up and ready to be played with ;o)

@artistic-writer @lillpon @sherlockianwhovian @cocohook38 @killian-whump (I don’t think you’re over there, but just in case…)

I’ll be posting older works over there this weekend, along with a little something new!

Signal boosting this!!! I’m not on Pillowfort yet, but I will probably try it out if/when I’m able to. But if there’s a dungeon, everyone should join it!!!

Help please?

With Tumblr’s rule change around the corner, I’m trying to figure out the best way to keep sharing my art. I’m at a bit of a loss, so I’ve made a very short survey to hopefully help me figure it out. It’s all anonymous, so please do be honest :D I would really appreciate responses from everyone who’s interested in my art!

Please, if you can, take a minute to fill it out (you don’t have to answer everything), and reblogs would be fantastic as well. Thank you!

if my tumblr gets deleted you can also follow me on my other forms of social media:

- digging a grave and whispering my name to the worms

- finding a bear in the forest and challenging it to a game of chess

- launching yourself into the stratosphere and vividly hallucinating my content

- the helpless feeling in your chest when you think of death

Anonymous asked:

This is a silly question in sure, but I'm curious: Do you get a notification that a post was flagged? I'm just wondering what to be aware of, and have yet to find a good, proper answer.

Not a silly question, Anon! A very valid question.

If by “notification” you mean an email or other message sent from Tumblr to me, then no, I haven’t gotten any notifications that posts were flagged.

But if I scroll through my blog (on a computer, don’t know what happens in the app) I can find flagged posts because they have a red “Your post was flagged” banner at the top like so:

(Male-presenting nipples cropped out of screenshot in the hopes this post avoids incorrect flagging so it can reach the people who need the info.)

Finding flagged posts is a tedious process, especially since I have 15,000+ to go through. Here’s the strategy I’ve been using to make it slightly more tolerable:

A Rant...

I can overlook the shitty algorithm that keeps flagging posts for explicit content when there is none. It’s a pain in the ass, but also good for a laugh. You click review, they send you an oops, we’re sorry e-mail, and you go on with life.

What I CANNOT ABIDE, is Tumblr coming back with a response that the post you asked a review on is in violation of the upcoming guidelines, without any explanation as to what makes it explicit when IT CLEARLY ISN’T EXPLICIT!!

No genitals, no lady boobies, no sex.

@staff You have already failed on the first front, of having things flagged that shouldn’t be (actually, the first fail was taking this asinine road in the first place, but we’re waaaaaaaaay past that). Now you are failing in the review process, and things that shouldn’t disappear come December 17th are going to be lost. That is NOT okay.

I might not be so pissed about this, except I have an art piece with a dude’s penis visible through mesh boxers that STILL has not been flagged, while art pieces that are in no way violating the new guidelines are getting permanently flagged as explicit.

Bull. Shit.

AU where detective rogers shows up to work all antsy and glued to his phone and has to come up with some excuse when weaver snaps at him bc ‘my handcuff-kink blog that i started to supplement my shitty beat cop salary has been flagged 274 times and all my content is going to be deleted’ isn’t gonna fly at work. pls.

He’s been uploading tasteful uniform pics onto his art blog and has now been flagged.

His ship aesthetic blog is somehow being categorised as explicit and is facing the axe.

The only person he thinks he can talk to is Henry because he’s sent out his podcast ranting about his book’s artwork being mistaken for breasts and flagged as sensitive material.

roni finally fesses up when she hears the lads whisper-ranting at the end of the bar. she runs a mixology blog but she’s not above posting a good cleavage shot in the background of demonstrating good pouring technique, and now she’s being shadowbanned and she’s ready to fucking burn the site to the ground

At some point, Sabine bursts in: “THEY FLAGGED MY BEIGNETS.”

“You look upset, love, what is it?”

“Oh it’s nothing. It’s embarrassing, really.”

“Come on, tell me.”

“Well… don’t laugh, okay? But I’m on Tumblr, and there was this blog with like… handcuff stuff, and they’re changing the rules and it’s probably gonna get deleted now and just… why can’t I have one nice thing? You know?”

“… I think I might be able to help.”

OH SHIT, IT JUST GOT EPIC
