“Well, well, Captain,” the Dark One said, sounding almost as if he were amused to be pinned against the wall with the end of his dagger at his neck, “it looks as though you’ve finally bested me. What now, are you to get your precious revenge at last?” He leaned toward the blade in dramatic resignation. “Do it then.”

Killian glared at him for a moment in suspicion, wondering if there were some sort of catch. Holding his breath, Killian released hundreds of years of pent up anger as he slashed the Dark One’s throat. He stepped back and watched in confusion as the bastard actually smiled, and dark red smoke poured from the wound instead of blood. In an instant, his body disappeared into thin air, and Killian choked on a gasp as he felt something tear through his own.

“You shouldn’t have underestimated me, dearie. Not anymore,” the Dark One breathed into Killian’s ear from behind him as he jerked and twisted the sword he’d just plunged through the pirate’s back before he pulled it out just as swiftly and let him fall to the ground.

With a satisfied smirk, the Dark One flicked his wrist and replaced himself once more with a dark cloud that dissipated soon after, leaving Killian to bleed out in a collapsed heap alone.

“Please,” Killian coughed in a breathless whisper as he clutched frantically at his pocket in a desperate attempt to free his phone. With an unsteady hand, he pressed the button he knew should reach Emma, but the world faded to black before he could hear if she picked up.
