Hey beautiful! Do you have any idea of what happened to Fairytale in New York?

It’s in post-production, my dear Nonny friend!!!

My understanding of “post-production” is that it’s a magical process that takes anywhere from a couple weeks to, like, half a fucking millennium and no one will ever give you any satisfactory explanation for why that is.

Considering it seems to be based on a Christmas song, it might come out around Christmas time of whatever year it finally gets released... so, like... could be Christmas 2020, could be Christmas 2567. I don’t really know T_T

Okay, but like... Fairytale of New York?? Any word on this project yet? Is it being released this holiday season, because it's getting down to the wire...

I highly doubt it’s coming out this year. Generally, promotion starts before now for Christmas releases - even lower profile ones. In fact, most of them are already released for this year. So I’m pretty sure that ship has sailed (or, rather, NOT sailed) for this year. We’ll have to hope for next year.

Look, I know we're all RIDICULOUSLY excited about JJ Sneed, but you know who else I'm ready to meet?

Shane the stand-up comic from "Fairytale of New York." I want to see drunk Colin. I want to know if he's going to be so much of a hot mess that @killian-whump will have to adopt him (look, he seems to be in a ROBE in PUBLIC in some of the set pics.)

Mostly I want him to be FUNNY, since we made the poor dude a little defensive about it at Enchanted.

I'M SORRY COLIN YOU ARE FUNNY I PROMISE.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

You people made Colin feel defensive about his funniness?!?!?!

WHY DON’T I REMEMBER HEARING ABOUT THIS?!

And also, WHY? and HOW? and WHY???

And I can’t wait for Shane, and I am pretty sure I will probably be adopting him, because he totally seems like a bit of a hot mess so far, and I love that. And also, all he has to do is make ONE failed joke, so Colin can make his, “you’re not laughing tho” face AND I WILL LOVE HIM FOREVER

BECAUSE I LOVE

THAT FACE

HE MAKES

Next Colin projects?

Well, next up seems to be JJ Sneed on Netflix, which is scheduled to arrive in November. Netflix is pretty good about bringing stuff out when they say they will, so we should definitely see that by the end of the year.

Then there’s Fairytale of New York, which is likely to come out around Christmastime, since it’s based on a Christmas song. That is, of course, if there’s no delays that push it back a year until NEXT Christmas. We don’t have an actual release date yet, so we’re just hoping it comes out this year. It could pull a What Still Remains and take longer than expected in post-production.

He’s also done some additional voice work for Abe’s Story, which will premiere at the Galway Film Festival in July. Hopefully, it’ll also be uploaded online or picked up by a streaming company so we all can see it!

That’s all we know of for sure at this point, but it’s also likely that he’s either one of the top contenders for or has already secured a major role in the DC Comics franchise. We all know the one. Regardless of whether he’s officially landed it yet or not, this limits the roles he’s able to take in the meantime, as he likely can’t sign on for any other major franchise roles OR take any potentially long-running jobs while he’s contracted to (or hoping to be contracted to) a major franchise such as that.

Oh, and we also suspect his character Douxie may show up again in the third insallment of the Trollhunters series, Wizards. Nothing definite on that yet, but there have been comments about characters from previous arcs turning up again, and some suspiciousness about his character in the first place that lends weight to the idea that the character plays a more important role in the series than it initially appeared.

I… just got around to listening to Fairytale of New York.

Totally not what I expected.

Right, though? “Oh, it’s a romance. This is gonna be a love song.”

“I wonder why Colin took this role...?”

*listens to song*

“THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG.”

“WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS, EVEN?”

"I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS.”

In other news, I will never question his role choices again XD

When do you think the Dolly Parton will get released? I'm thinking maybe around July? But the optimist in me is hoping maybe March. XD

Well, one of the other people in it said Fall 2019 :/

And Fairytale of New York is (presumably) a Christmas movie, so that one will probably be next Christmas. We’ve got quite a wait ahead of us! But I’m sure he’ll keep us busy in the meantime

Hey, friend, now we have a few upcoming Colin projects on the slate could you give me a run down on the likelihood of whump in these. I know you can only speculate, but I like your speculations and I'd guess you've given it some thought.

Oh, you know me so well, my dear friend

There will definitely be whump in the JJ Sneed episode of Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings. For starters, the song itself is super whumpy: JJ Sneed gets shot and nursed back to health by the female protagonist, which is why she feels entitled to (spoiler alert!) shoot him dead herself at the end of the song for breaking her heart. And not only that, but we know they’re not changing or omitting that final murder scene, because it takes place in a rainstorm in the song - and at the NJ convention, Colin mentioned filming under a rain machine the night before, and separately commented that his hands looked “dirty” because they were stained from fake blood from filming the night before. Sounds like a bloody, rainy death scene to me ;)

Unfortunately, actual whump is looking less likely in Fairytale of New York. Since it’s also based on a song, we can gather some clues from the lyrics about what kind of content we might be able to look forward to… and there’s nothing about any grievous bodily injuries in there ;) That doesn’t mean there’s no chance for whump, of course, as the relationship between the two leads in the song is rather contentious in spots, and they’ll obviously be adding stuff in order to turn a 3 minute song into a full movie. Also, there promises to be some fun things for us, anyway, as the song begins with the male lead in the drunk tank on Christmas Eve. And you know what that means - a jail cell, along with potential manhandling, fisticuffs and handcuffs. Why, there’s even a bit of manhandling in the music video for that part, so that ups our chances of them adding some in to the film as a nod to the video ;) And it’s a safe bet that Colin will be super, super Irish in it, which promises to be fun for everybody XD

And while it’s still conjecture and wishful thinking, Kiss Me Judas would be a literal whump tour de force and I will actually CRY if it doesn’t happen.

Honestly, at this point… I kinda expect whump in almost anything he does, because it seems like he enjoys doing it as much as we enjoy watching it ;) But, you know, you and I know all about that… ;)

COLIN IS FILMING SOMETHIIIIIIIIIIIIING GUYS, HE’S FILMING!!!

Apparently, that’s Jim Belushi over there on the left, and Colin in the upper middle. Looks like he’s stomping away from Jim’s character with a bottle in his hand. They’re filming in Smithfield, on the North side of Dublin.

The heavy-set of Belushi, the atmosphere of the street around them, the costumes, apparent actions, and bottle (of alcohol?) are giving me major KMJ vibes, actually. MoonMoon, is that you??

Edit: It’s not MoonMoon or any other kind of Moon. It’s Fairytale of New York, which has allegedly begun filming, and Jim Belushi is playing someone named James.

Ok, so, I read a rumor (or 3) that Colin's next film, Fairytale of New York, may be based on a Pogues song of the same name, and/or about the lead singer, Shane McGowan. Have you heard any rumblings of this? I'd love for it to be true - I've been a Pogues fan for over two decades AND it might mean Colin could be singing in the film. Singing IRISH PUNK ROCK. Actually, it may be better to stay a fantasy. I might actually have a heart attack if it turns true. But wouldn't that be freakin' amazing?!

It would be freaking amazing... but I don’t think it’ll happen.

Now, for starters, I do think this film is absolutely based on the Pogues song, seeing as the main characters are named “Shane” and “Kirsty” on IMDB, which match the vocalists’ names on the original version of the song.

Also, I gotta admit that the idea of Colin being in a straight-up romance literally confounded me... until I read the lyrics of the song itself and was like, “Oh, okay, yeah, nevermind, that’s totally up his alley.”

Which brings me back to my first comment. You’d think this would be a story ripe for some musical numbers somewhere, somehow... but at the Burbank convention last month, Colin was explicitly asked if he’d be singing in anything anytime soon, and he flat-out said NO.

His answer sounded legit, and not like a mis-direct, so I think he was honestly letting us know he has nothing on his docket that involves him singing. And even though Fairytale of New York is still in pre-production, I highly suspect he already had it on his list of upcoming projects and likely knew even then whether it would involve singing or not. It’s also this answer that makes me feel fairly certain that his turn in Heartstrings won’t involve him singing, either.

But, you know, I could be wrong on this! Maybe he was just teasing or purposely mis-directing us. You never know! And it would be awesome...

Colin's new movie could be based of the same-name song or the novel. I wouldn't call either of those a "sweeping romantic story" though, unless the film is going to be The Dust Storm-esque.

Oh, it’s gotta be based off the song, considering the characters are named Shane and Kirsty, after Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl, who sang the tune originally.

Honestly, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here, I mean, it starts out “It was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank...” and I can’t think of anything less more sweepingly romantic than that.

I’m especially fond of the part where he calls her “an old slut on junk” because nothing says I love you like... well, that? I mean, what more do you want?! What sort of unrealistically high standards have you got over there, Nonny? XD

But all joking aside, it’s a SUPER popular Christmas tune in the UK and Ireland, and Shane MacGowan himself is a pretty big deal over there, too. So it promises to be an interesting tale, I’m sure! I’m also hoping it’ll be a comedy, or at least have comedic overtones, because how could it NOT?

Wait so is he still doing a western with his silly/cute little beard? Or is that the dolly Parton thing. Truth be told his secretiveness about everything seems a little unnecessary

Well, it generally IS necessary, actually. A lot of studios have NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) with the stars they hire for a project, basically making them contractually obligated not to talk about the job before the studio makes official announcements. Depending on the project, these can be SUPER strict (like with Marvel movies, major franchises or other high profile projects) and stars can be in MAJOR trouble for spilling details they’re not supposed to. That trouble can amount to fines or even complete termination from the project.

Plus, um, well, it’s just kinda rude to blow the lid off of a film/show/etc before the creators of that work get a chance to announce it however/whenever they want to do so. And if there’s one thing we all know about our Col, he is ALWAYS a gentleman

Now, all of that said... YES, he’s still doing the western - which is an episode of the upcoming Dolly Parton show (called Heartstrings). He’s already done it, in fact. IMDB lists the project as “filming” because the entire anthology is still filming - but Colin’s episode is already filmed and his work on it is done. So you’ll be seeing him in a western about a Dolly Parton song, with his cute little Sneed Beard... and this new project based on a Shane McGowan song!
