Now I have mental images of Dani having a magically-appearing strap-on and every time Malcolm makes Those Kinds of Faces, she’s just like, “I’m sorry everybody, but I have to do this right now. You can turn away if you want to, but we all know it has to be done.”

Where the woman has equal agency in the relationship and the man heavily hints at getting pegged

His therapist told him he should go get pegged. Unfortunately he just... went to the wrong woman first...

Today's take is 'Malcolm gets pegged'?

Alright then 😂

I leave this app for 2 hours...

I really, sincerely love this fandom.

You’re mad at me. A little bit, yeah.

Ngl this scene pissed me off. Yes friends talk, but they don’t force people to talk when they aren’t ready or don’t want to. And in the middle of an investigation is also probably not a good time either.

Maybe this scene could have been handled better but I view it more as Dani holding Malcolm accountable for being so in his head about how this case affects himself personally that he doesn’t even consider how it might be affecting his friends/coworkers. There’s never really a “good” time to talk about something like this but I do prefer that Dani told him why she’s mad at him rather than letting it fester and make wonder the whole episode. Even if it was poor timing, it was better that he know how she was feeling rather than pretending she’s not mad at him. It’s honestly more healthy than forming resentment when the other person doesn’t know why you’re upset.

Yeah, I think the important thing to remember is that TV shows have to try to show us overall relationship dynamics through brief snippets that are relevant to the storyline of the episode itself. In that sense, almost every interaction we SEE between Dani and Malcolm takes place “in the middle of an investigation” - because each episode focuses on an investigation, and all scenes are going to be couched in that atmosphere. You kind of have to ignore “is this really the time/place for this discussion?” issues, because having this interaction take place outside the realm of the current investigation would require an entirely separate scene, whereas this interaction was seamlessly blended into a scene that primarily served to move the episode’s storyline forward. You also have to sometimes look beyond the literal words being spoken to see what the writers are trying to tell you about the relationship between the characters and how it’s advancing/working outside of the brief window we’re privy to.

And the main point they were trying to make was that Malcolm was noticeably and understandably going through some stuff and he was shutting Dani out. He wasn’t saying, “I’m having a hard time processing this all right now, and I can’t really talk about it” - he was just being short, clipped, and faking he was fine. And she’s absolutely right to call him on that, because that’s not what friends should do. You don’t HAVE to divulge everything and anything to your friends whether you want to or not - but if your stressors are out in the open and your friend expresses concern for you or asks how you’re doing, it IS rude to just shut them down entirely - and that’s what Malcolm was doing.

I would agree that the conversation could’ve been phrased better to make it more clear what Dani’s point was, but again... they only have a limited amount of time to present things to the audience, and this exchange managed to cover Dani’s particular issue with him, her upfront approach to dealing with issues in their friendship, a bit of a teaser about Dani’s back story, AND ultimately advance the episode’s investigation storyline.

hey, agree with ur views on Dani/Malcolm, how Dani treats him-their is a balanced. Love the teasing & doing same eyes gestures. As a person Dani is great, she's strong, fierce, brave yet she is soft & vulnerable too. Aurora plays her well esp those facial expressions she does lol. The finale I kinda felt Dani closed up, u cud see it affected her whilst she was arresting him, then the back and forth they had. She kept like a barrier imo. (glad we did learn abit of her past, hope for more in s2)

YES. I love Dani as a character, and I love Aurora’s playing of her. Ah, the faces she makes are adorable and sassy all at once and I love them. She’s a total smartass, but without being a bitch - and that is SO rare to see in female characters. Too often, writers are like, “We’ll make her sassy!” and then they give the character ridiculously rude/obnoxious lines that no one would ever say in real life without being considered a complete bitch by everyone around them. I LOVE how Dani’s character doesn’t fall into that trap. Her teasing is sharp and witty, but always with a playful undertone that leaves her “mark” (usually Malcolm :D) laughing WITH her instead of being laughed AT. It’s brilliant.

And her takedown of that international spy was EPIC. THAT’S THE KIND OF BADASS WOMAN I WANNA STAN \o/ She’s got soul, she’s got heart; she’ll tear the bad guys all apart! IT’S DANI!!! :D *shakes pompoms* Sorry, I just really love her XD My main schtick when it comes to pairings are 100% adorable, trouble-prone idiot guy mixed with competent, rescue-prone badass girl - but all too often, the girls fall into that bitchy trap where you’re eventually like, “Okay, but, uh, you actually DO care about him, right? Someone? Please? Can someone confirm for me?” and I just don’t see that happening with Brightwell and it makes me so UBERLY DUPERLY PSYCHED for it XD

And agreed on the closing up. I thought it was especially noticeable in the morgue scene... You could tell she was pained when she was “working the profile” the way Bright would want them to. Like, you could see that it was hurting her to have to acknowledge that Bright totally fit the crime, but she was also trying to hide it and just focus on the case. But you could see it. I wish we’d gotten to see all of what they planned for the last few episodes, because the whole rest of the season gave us such subtle, nuanced scenes between those two that I just don’t think they would’ve given us such a jarring change in their dynamic without a meaningful lead-up to it. So I just try to view those scenes with an assumption that “some shit went down between then and now that explains all this” and not look too far into it beyond that.

I can’t wait for S2! I wanna know more about everybody, but especially about Dani and I want more Brightwell!!! :D
