journaling is such a fabulous habit to have, i can’t tell you enough how it changed my life. if you don’t know where to start or just haven’t put pen to paper yet, here are a few things to keep in mind. i will also include some simple prompts to set up and review your day.
- your journal does not have to be perfect. only you will be seeing it, so forget about trying to make it look in order. i feel like we are conditioned to think “what will others think about this” even if we are doing something for ourselves. nobody is going to see it, so personalize it completely.
- you do not have to follow any rules. if one day you feel like adding stickers and colorful markers, do so. if the next day you only want to write one sentence, do so. the whole point of journaling is to observe and document your feelings and emotions, be true to them.
- it takes about a month to create a habit, commit every single day for 30 days whether its writing a whole page or just a couple of sentences. soon it will become a part of your routine.
here are some simple prompts to get you started :
- what am i grateful for this morning?
- what do i give myself permission to do today?
- what do i want to accomplish or get out of today?
- how can i practice self love today?
- how can i practice loving others today?
- what am i proud of today?
- what strengths have i used today?
- what was challenging today? how can i better face these things?
- what have i learned today?
- what did i do to practice kindness to self and others today?
