That bit from bob’s burgers lmao
i honestly don’t think barry and iris ever knew the extent of the abuse wally suffered as a child. they knew his parents were difficult ppl to get along with and that wally wasn’t happy at home. they’ve said as much. but neither of them saw rudy or mary that often. and wally can’t even acknowledge the abuse to himself, much less to others. the tragedy of it is if they had known they would have done everything in their power to get him out of that house. but if he were to tell them now they would blame themselves for not knowing then. even if wally were to come to terms with his abuse one day, he’d still feel the need to keep it a secret.
WALLY WEST By Nick Robles

My 3 pages contribution to the Relay Race: A Flash Zine by @flashfamevents : Out of Time.
I'm not crying, you're crying...
one thing about wally west is that he is allergic to any introspection beyond surface level. that man wants to be ignorant of himself so bad
tfw ur a gay superhero n you impulsively kiss ur best friend who doesnt know ur secret ID and now he wont shut up abt it
tim: batman said im not allowed to steal tv remotes from house parties anymore
bart: max is under investigation cause i said he used to shoot arrows at my head and my teacher called cps
wally west is so funny bc he was already out of the hero game when barry died. he was just some dude going to college in the midwest. he became the flash bc he felt like he had to and then immediately went balls to the wall insane. within the span of a few years he revealed his identity to the public, dropped out of college, won the lottery, bought a mansion, lost everything and became homeless, dated a married woman who was 12 yrs older than him, and became a feral porcupine creature. this guy could have had an office job.
wallyyy and friends :]
Happy pride month! Here's my top five instances of Bart Allen being extremely aroace in no particular order:

Bart says no thanks to noir tropes- Young Justice '98
+Bonus, Cissie knowing that "confessing" her love would be weird enough to shock Bart out of spiraling.
a boy and his father Max
a boy and his only friend CRAYDL
I’d rec Wally’s 90’s Flash run by Mark Waid. Iirc Mark Waid and Wally’s Flash reign is really where a lot of the present-day Flash mythos came from/got their start!
You could also read his Kid Flash stuff but if you’re trying not to get too extensive then imho you can just start from him as the Flash
i plan on reading new teen titans but i'll check that run out after!!!
okay so i've been wanting to read some older (pre-new 52) dick grayson stuff and i wanna know what comics are good. not like a super exhaustive read through but more just y'all's favorites! (the weird numbering is because i've read up to those points in b&r 09 and nw 93)
also if anyone has recommendations for good wally stuff? again, nothing too exhaustive but he's really interesting and id like to read more about him.
Impulse (1995) issue #22, published February 1997
just a thought i had earlier: it’s canon that wally’s parents were abusive even if the word “abuse” was never used to describe it but it seems like wally just… doesn’t realize that was the case lmao. sure he’s talked about how he didn’t think his parents loved him, and how they had no interest in being parents, and he’s even talked about how his dad beat him on occasion, but if you were to ask him if he was abused i think he would say no. and sometimes it feels like the writers skirt around it as well. they describe some pretty horrific instances of abuse and drop little hints about how detrimental it was to wally’s self-esteem, but both the narrative and wally are always quick to move on from it. it’s really not explored the way it usually is for other characters who had similar upbringings and that drives me fucking bonkers.
I feel like a lot of writers want to drop the word "abuse" when describing Wally's upbringing but editorial won't let them because in the medley of people who have explored Wally's backstory, there's no way that the word hasn't crossed anyone's mind.
I don't like to say that Wally has "moved on" from it but I think the willingness to use the word "abuse" is just super buried in him and it ain't coming out any time soon.
oh yeah for sure, wally definitely hasn’t moved on emotionally, he’s just quick to move on from the subject of his parents. he doesn’t like talking about them in depth and even seems to give them the benefit of the doubt a lot of times when they definitely don’t deserve it. he’s buried those feeling soooooooo far down he’s still convinced he had a mostly normal childhood.

“if he says they abused him that means that they didn’t not love him by accident” i am biting into drywall thank you for that
