Do you ever think about brook thinking about being human? How that changes how his music sounds? How the skin of your fingers grow calluses from the strings, and how bone doesn’t do that? How bone against string will fundamentally sound different rather than soft flesh? Do you think Brook ever misses the way his music sounded when he was alive? Or do you think he's glad that the sound changed? That they way he used to play will always remain with his first crew and his new sound is for memories with his new crew?

Also a version in one image below :)

i think brook is so interesting because like. nothing in the present means anything to him. he was trapped in desolate fog for fifty years surrounded by the dead bodies of a crew he was supposed to protect with no way of getting contact with the outside world so the people who came into power during those 50 years mean nothing to him.

people will talk about how terrifying the gol d roger is and it’ll mean nothing because when brook was a pirate roger was a child and brook will only ever know him as a child. brook hasn’t been conditioned to fear the state of the world so people will say things like the four emperors or the seven warlords and brook won’t bat an eye because he just learned they exist.

he doesn’t know who rayleigh is. he’s never had to fear garp or sengoku. he has zero idea who whitebeard or kaidou or big mom are or what their power is like outside of what the straw hats have told him and what he may have learned in the past two years alone. so yeah, when he’s confronted with big mom he doesn’t shy away because he doesn’t know “Charlotte Linlin. Captain of the Big Mom Pirates and Former Member of Rock’s Crew” all he knows is “Big Mom. Emperor of the sea and Enemy of Straw Hat Luffy, My Captain.”

like it makes sense to me brook can be so calm in the face of big mom. he’s ninety years old, he’s a living skeleton and a member of the future pirate king’s crew. he’s been in the big leagues ever since returning to the present. can you guys tell im a huge fucking brook fan

An analysis of the straw hats’ devil fruits! I just think its cool how they’re all based around being human :) This is meant to be a part two of this analysis of this Mera Mera no mi I made a little bit ago.

Thanks so much to @badly-drawn-doflamingo for writing all this with me, they’re so much more eloquent than I am, thank you so much🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Somehow, despite being one of the last to join, Brook is the first to know. He's a skeleton. It's damn hard to knock him unconscious. But he's also beaten and exhausted and he can barely turn his head when the swordsman, who's name he has forgotten since the dinner on the Sunny, gets up again and lands a hit despite how he's trembling from the strain and struggling to move through the pain.

It's not a fight he can win. That much is clear. At first Brook thinks the swordsman might not realize but... No. He does. And he falls to his knees, bows his head and begs. He speaks of his captain's dream with such certainty, the air quivers, and he puts his head on the metaphorical chop block. Declares that neither his life nor his own ambition is worth anything if his captain dies.

Brook watches and suddenly it's so clear.

He's been isolated for years. Decades. He's probably forgotten most of what he once knew about interacting with other people, how to read them, but... He knows love. He recognises the pure adoration in the swordsman's voice. What a wonderful thing love is. How beautifully tragic, he thinks, when he hears the screams.

Luffy wakes up feeling completely fine. Brook finds himself watching him closely when the cook drags back the bloody mess in human shape, that is somehow still breathing. He watches Luffy's grin freeze and slip, concern take it's place. He demands to know what happened, what's wrong with Zoro, but the man in question has already lost consciousness and Sanji can only repeat that he doesn't know, like the words will make it better if he says them again. Brook knows. But he keeps his mouth shut. Not until he knows that Zoro will live, he tells himself. So maybe never.

When Zoro wakes up Luffy smiles wider than he has in days.

How wonderful when love is requinted.

DON’T think about how realistically the amount of trauma and fuckedupness being all on his own with the corpses of his crewmates for 50 years would have fucked brook up as a person so bad. DON’T think about how the only people he really actually sees in those 50 years are the people who stole his shadow and made a puppet clone of him. DON’T think about how he’d probably have deep-seated issues associated with being alone and in silence.

DO think about how the first good people Brook meets are a lively gang of kind people who are never silent for even a second and surround him every single day, who love his music and talk to him.
