Souta/Furuta’s Trump Cards

Just some thoughts on Souta and Furuta’s Trump Cards. With last chapter, the mystery of why Souta’s Trump Card was separate to the rest of the Clowns has been cleared up. We’d all guessed that Souta was working with V but I think it was still a little bit of a surprise (for me at least) that his loyalties to Pierrot was completely non-existent.

There’s the obvious clues that we’d all figured out were important:

But then there’s also something suspicious with Souta’s hands going on. The obvious one was his left hand making a V which combined with the bird cage showed his association with the V organisation. But the right hand is harder to make out but it’s too unnatural looking to be insignificant. I just have no idea in what way (if anyone has any ideas about this, please add on!)

Lastly, if Furuta was a part of V, and his 5 ♥ cards represents that… does this mean the other 5′s are also a part of V? There’s one 5 in particular that is especially suspicious…. I’ll put it under the cut just in case you don’t want potential spoilers for that character

So I got a load of new swag today, purchased as something of a Merry Christmas to me/treat yo self gift. I bought the jump festa cards, which came with a white wing award pin replica and a sheet of stickers (with some VERY sweet Juuzou stickers!!!) 

I wanted to show the packaging differences.The Jump Festa cards are in a plastic case with a cardboard sheath, whereas the original raffle cards are in a cardboard box, just like a standard/typical set of cards. Personally, I much prefer the cardboard box aesthetically, but the plastic for protective purposes. I also took a picture of the two decks side by side so you can see that they are the same size, though the Jump Festa deck looks much bigger in it’s packaging due to the plastic box. 

I’m still so happy and overwhelmed about getting the original deck *_* Best holiday gift of all time! And I’m glad to have them both because it feels very complete :)

By the way, I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this before, but on the original deck, the color of the box is not black and white, it’s more of a dark purple. It’s very, very beautiful. You can see the difference between the true black of the Jump Festa deck and the deep purple of the raffle deck. :)

6 Jokers?

Some thoughts I had trying to make sense of the Jokers.

Red Jokers: Seidou and Kanae

Well, this is probably the most obvious pair, as their stories have a clear link: both tortured to insanity by Eto, and now serve her.

White Jokers: Kaneki and Juuzou

Their stories have clear parallels: hair changing from black to white and the reverse, loosing and gaining their “humanity”, abuse from parental figures. They’ve both also experiences life with both with humans and ghouls, and have ties to both worlds.

Black Jokers: Arima and Furuta

Well, these two are two of the biggest mysteries in TG at the moment, imo. That’s something they hold in common at least. Though they are both supposed to be human and probably technically are, there’s something somewhat inhuman about them and the way they’ve behaved. This is a stretch, but while Juuzou and Kaneki have both “human” and “ghoul” characteristics, in a way you could argue that these two have neither, which would fit the black/white allocations the two sets have been given. Though again, we don’t really know enough about them to say at the moment.

I’ve also heard theories that they are both part of the mysterious organisation that is V.

I notice Jump Festa list 56 in their title. 

So I’m assuming the cards selling at JF will not include the 3 Jokers (Arima, Juuzou and Seidou)  that were originally given to the winners. Since we now have 3 new Jokers (Kanae, Kaneki and Furuta) that will be for sale.

2 new jokers~

Furuta Nimura has been confirmed as the fourth Joker in the Trump Card deck, joining Arima Kishou, Suzuya Juuzou, and Owl (Takizawa Seidou). I, for one, am thrilled. This all but confirms to me that he is Souta. The fact that Souta also appears on the 5 of Hearts doesn’t at all contradict this, as Takizawa Seidou, as he appeared as a normal CCG investigator, is represented on the 6 of clubs. The Jokers being repeats of other cards in different forms already has precedent. 

His spot on a Joker card promises some exciting surprises from Furuta, for sure. The Jokers don’t seem to be the leaders of any organizations or the decision makers, so much as linch pin figures and key actors. Arima and Suzuya are the CCG’s best, but their own personal motivations and thus their future roles in the plot remain a mystery. Owl, too, is incredibly powerful, but represents more of a wild card in terms of his own instability. For now, Furuta is just an unknown. The Joker, in terms of Tarot and the minor arcana, is often likened to The Fool, a card Tsukiyama compares Hori Chie to in the novels. It has connotations of recklessness, risk, the unknown, and new beginnings. It’s also seen as the protagonists card for “the fool’s journey”, and there’s been a lot said about TG and TG:RE as Kaneki/Sasaki’s path through that as well.

I’m still tentatively on the side that he’s a human, albeit one with close, friendly ties to ghouls, but his placement on the Joker card is making me strongly consider the fact that there might be more to him, after all.

I’d like someone who reads Japanese to confirm, but it looks like the image I posted before was real and Furuta is in fact the last Joker!  @drowning-in-theories @makyun
