Mado and Arata Parallels and how Akira and Touka came out different

One of the most enlightening parts of this chapter was the revelation that Arata was not the pacifist that Touka explained him to be in part one. This shows a major part of Touka’s development as she finally accepted that it wasn’t her fault that he was captured but his own. This is a major improvement from the Touka who thought it was her fault for ending up alone in life. However, this revelation also made a direct parallel of Touka and Akira as their parents and upbringing were more similar than either of them could admit.

Touka and Akira actually had a very similar upbringing in that there parents lived two separate lives one with them and one that they show the rest of the world. To Akira and Touka their parents were kind doting parents, and to the world they were cruel killers

Also both of there fathers cruel killing habit where brought forward not for a pure hatred of each others species but because of the fact that ghouls and humans were the reason that they lost someone special to them there wife.

However one of the major differences is in the way that Touka and Akira were raised by their fathers. Touka was raised to be a pacifist, probably do to the fact that Arata was probably was one until Hikari’s death. Touka was raised to believe that humans were food but also people, and that they should be treated with dignity and should be treated kindly. Akira on the other hand was raised to believe that ghouls were evil and monster and was sent to the Academy. One of the major differences is that Arata tried to raise Touka and Ayato in the direction that he was aiming to live before the death of Hikari, and Mado raised Akira in his hatred whether he realized it or not.

Another major difference was the way in which they grew up, Touka after the loss of her father was given a cold hard truth about the world her father shielder her and Ayato from. She learned that humans could be cruel and didn’t care for ghouls like her. She came to resent humans as did Ayato, and went through her rebellious phase that was only culled by Yoshimura’s intervention. But it was through that, that Touka was able to meet Yoriko and learned that humans were not terrible and went back to a mostly pacifistic life. But, Touka did have slip ups in the case of the dove arc, but she learned from her mistake and turned away from it. Touka also learned that her father’s life style wasn’t good through Kaneki’s actions who started to live a  life just like her fathers which made her realize how wrong it was.

Akira on the other hand didn’t really question the way that she was raised I mean why would she when the whole world says it’s right. Touka and Akira both had this similar desire to be close to their fathers, and they both figured that following in their footsteps was the way to go. So while Touka learned through experience that her father was wrong, Akira never got that and is going through the issue of learning late in life of how her father wasn’t right.

Akira is conflicted in that she now knows ghouls that she cares about greatly in Haise, Amon, and Seidou, which is going against everything she learned. She’s conflicted because of the fact that she has learned that their are good ghouls and the fact that her father ripped families apart. This whole realization is ruining her father’s image which is what she doesn’t want, and Akira has been living in denial for so long that she can’t accept her fathers mistakes.

This scene is so powerful because we are shown that a ghoul and ghoul investigator had such a similar upbringing and back story. That just subtle difference’s in there lives could great such a major difference of one following in their fathers footsteps and the other going no where close to it. This is so important because this is the last straw for Akira, and it makes her start to question everything that she has learned. Touka showed her and made her realize the feelings that Akira didn’t know that she had towards her father. Which shows just how amazing the parallelism is.

2016.9.4 Saiko’s Birthday

Saiko: Nufufufu, that’s no good, Amon-kun. (No good, no good.) You shouldn’t forget your quinque...
Mado: Is that “nufufu” supposed to be me laughing?

Original caption:

A day late for Saiko’s birthday.
Pardon my intrusion when I visited the shooting of the live action film yesterday. Yo Oizumi-san (Mado’s actor) was very cool, and I saw some wonderful things from him. I left my pencil case behind.

Updated caption (x):

I didn’t know that it wasn’t okay to post the coloured paper! I’ll just post Saiko’s birthday art instead. Please forget about it.

get to know me meme // four relationships:

↳ [¼] ☆ Kureo and Akira Mado // Tokyo Ghoul

You will become a ghoul investigator starting this spring. There is still a lot of things you need to learn. But when comes down to worst, just believe your own intuition. You have a good intuition. Just like me.
