if you’re like me, you mildly dread certain thxgiving encounters with estranged family members and friends, especially when it comes to politics and the like… and as I suspected, the weinstein case came up, and how it has exploded into an entire movement of women feeling confident enough to expose these gross turds. to me, this whole movement has been an encouraging start to real change! and it’s just the beginning. i voiced this and of course, was greeted with a comments that just made me want to crawl out of my skin. ‘honey, you’re young. you don’t understand that the way you dress is an indication to men about your intensions. all those women in low cut shirts and skimpy outfits were just asking for it, they knew what they were doing’. woooow. there is so SO SO much wrong with that belief, that women are ‘asking for it’ by how they dress. i brought up a million points to denounce her argument, but she just wouldn’t budge. i’m too ‘young’ to understand, she said. i got so frustrated i just got up and started stuffing my face with mashed potatoes. later that night at home, I got to talking to my mom about it, how belittling is it to say that women are asking to be abused based on their clothing? if you know me, you know that fashion is super important to me. it’s a means of expression and creativity. i dress for myself. not for anyone else. when you feel good in an outfit you put together, it feels so incredibly empowering. women are already told they’re too fat, too ugly, too old, too this and that, and now we’re going to make them feel bad about their clothing choices? literally f that. express yourself for YOU, and never justify to anyone why you dress the way you dress. be proud of your body & your self expression!!! i made this to remind everyone (and me!!) of that. this felt good to make. rant ov! xx
