The Secrets He Kept -CH 8

Summary: You've known the Winchester family since you were very small. You love Dean, you always have and you'll do anything to help your friend no matter the cost. You've helped Dean get his singing career off the ground but now that he and his wife, Lisa have moved back to Kansas and settled into a massive property you have started to notice some changes. Can you help him without ruining your relationship? 

Characters: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Mary Winchester, Lisa Braden-Winchester, you/ Y/N, Jody Mills, Castiel Novak, Ketch, Meg, 

Warnings: Heavy angst, domestic violence (male receiving), friends to lovers, slow burn, some fluff, and lots of language (but it's me so you probably knew that already). 

Chapter Warnings: character in hospital, mentions of past abuse (emotional and physical), attempted murder, arrest, (legal mumbo-jumbo made up by me, sorry I'm not an attorney nor have i had much dealings with one in a court setting ... thankfully)

A/N: some of the things described in this fic come from what I saw with the experience a friend of our family had with his ex. Violence at the hand of a significant other is very hard to spot sometimes, but if you (no matter gender) are experiencing abuse please reach out. The next afternoon Y/N arrived at the door Sam had instructed her to enter, Cas escorted her to the end of the hallway that Dean’s room was in, “wait here until Sam waves you in. I’m going to ask her to step out and explain what she remembers from the last two days. Don’t worry I’m planning to take notes, but uh she has cooked up the idea that I’m assisting in the investigation and a PI of sorts so nothing I get from her today can really be used in court. However, if she says something to me that might tip something off, I’ll let the lead investigator know which line of questioning to lead with.”

“Castiel, thank you.”

Summary: You have some very important people in your life and you get the chance to spend some time together, it makes you reflect on your friendships and how you all fit.

A/N: This was a bit of an idea I had bumbling around in my head but then I saw the @deanwinchesterswitch-events friendship challenge and decided to go for it. The prompt for cooking together and the image of Dean cooking gave me ideas.

“You’re a dork Dean,” I spat as I release Jody from the tight hug I had her in and move to hug him.

“How was the hunt?” we ask in unison.

“It went well,” we answer.

“Stop being twins,” Jody calls from the stove.

The following week Y/N found herself at home sorting through furniture and clothing she could list on the local marketplace to sell; she managed to sell a desk and a chair and an ottoman that same day.

With help from her neighbor, she was able to load them into the back of her SUV and within an hour she was back home checking her accounts.

She’d met him five years ago, the case seemed so simple – vamps kidnapping kids to use them for long-term food sources then turning them to grow the nest or finish the meal and dump the body.

Her mother had figured the pattern out when her baby sister had been taken at the age of seven. Tahnee had been found a few years later still wearing Nova’s sweatshirt that she’d borrowed. After all these years, Nova still felt somewhat responsible for Tahnee’s kidnapping, she was supposed to be baby-sitting and had dragged her to the park to hang out; Tahnee got cold and Nova handed over her much larger jacket and told her to wait by the tree. Five minutes later when she went to grab her sister and walk home, Tahnee was nowhere to be found.

“I do want the best for you, I want you to be safe, to feel safe and loved and pretty,” he leaned in for another kiss and she happily obliged.

After a few minutes of silence, she told him, “Can I sleep in here tonight?” “You can sleep in here every night,” he murmured and pressed a kiss to her forehead. 

Chapter 17

Dean startled awake – he was sweating profusely and trembling – the bed next to him was cool and empty – his heart dropped. Before he could think coherently, he was stumbling across the room and yanking the door open. By the time his foot landed in the hall a sweet smell hit his senses.

Leigh’s voice, and the sounds of utensils and dishes rattling hit his ears just before he rounded the corner into the kitchen. Dean froze at the sight before him – she was opening the door to the oven – the smell of a mixed berry pie getting stronger as she checked the crust and laid foil over the darkening edges.

They had been sharing a room on their trip but this was the first night that once in bed she had snuggled up to him – Dean could tell things between them had changed. They were closer than ever and nothing was going to change that.

Chapter 16

“Honey I’m home!” yelled Eileen causing the girls to giggle as the boys stepped from the living-room and not the bathroom like they’d expected.

“Hello ladies,” Dean grinned at them – especially when he took in Leigh with her new hair cut – it had been down below her ass when they left and now sat just above her shoulders in a cute wavy bob.

“I thought you were working on the bathroom?” Eileen queried.

He had intended to go to his room and finish working off the hard-on she’d unintentionally given him but seeing her crying had taken care of that issue for now. So, he rushed to make a nice little snack for her – she had grapes and some almonds she liked to snack on, he added some pepperoni and cheese and the two of them snacked before ending their night with some platonic cuddles – at least that’s what he told himself they were. 

Chapter 15

Leigh spent the next three weeks not advancing any romantic or sexual contact other than some hand holding and kissing. It was starting to drive Dean a little bit mad and he turned to Sam for advice.

He held his arms out for a hug and she quickly wrapped herself around his torso.

“I’m sorry I caused you so much trouble tonight,” she whispered.

Chapter 14

It took them a few weeks to start getting more comfortable but one evening as they ate dinner Dean found himself reaching out and holding Leigh’s hand – his heart began to race when she stood up to get seconds but slowly stroked her fingertips up his forearm before fully breaking contact.

Once the kitchen was cleaned up, she looked up at Dean and asked, “wanna make out?”

She had watched several shows or movies where the woman would push the man’s shirt up and over his head and in that moment that’s exactly what she wanted to do – for reasons beyond her understanding.

But Dean pushed her hands away, practically jumping out of his seat, “you’re not ready for that,” he panted.

“What?” she implored, “but I”

“No,” he shouted and stalked off through the house and out the back door.

Chapter 13

“What the fuck?” she audibly groaned. ‘How did we go from him telling me I’m pretty to him completely rejecting me?’ she asked herself as she made her way to her room.

She couldn’t stay there that night, she decided – she couldn’t catch her breath, her face felt hot, and she wasn’t sure she could look at Dean without crying – so she threw some clothes into a bag and slipped out the front door. Carefully she headed out to the road and walked to Sam and Eileen’s.

By the time she knocked on his front door she had large tears streaming down her face.

Dean chuckled – to him it was just a couple people kissing on screen – a sight he’s seen a thousand times, hell, a sight one might see at any given night at a bar but he now realized those scenes might mean something different to her.

‘Were those simple little scenes making her feel turned on?’ he wondered, before quickly batting those thoughts away.

“Happy birthday,” Sam and Eileen shouted as they walked in for their shift.

“Happy Solstice,” Leigh grinned back.

“Twenty-seven huh?” Sam asked and she giggled.

“I know, right. After the craziness of the last two years, it doesn’t feel like it could be possible.”
