Summary: Being a single parent is far harder than Dean ever thought it would be. When he meets a woman who sees him struggling and asks if she can help him will he accept her help and let her in or keep his walls high and push a chance at love away?

A/N 2: I am not a speech therapist but was in a language training and it gave me the idea for this fic. I hope you like it. Also this can be read as a one-shot or the first part of a 3 part mini-series (I guess) I wrote all 3 with the same characters in mind. Dean knew that being a single dad would be hard but he hadn’t expected it to be this hard.

He sat on a bench at the park watching his precious daughter play in the sand box a few feet away and for a split second he wished that Charlie could just jabber and talk like the other little girls she was playing near. She was hard to understand and the other children already seemed to shun her over it and that was enough to break his heart but it was even worse when he couldn’t understand her himself.

They’d already lived through so many tears and tantrums it was enough to make him snap at this point.

I opened my eyes to a pitch-dark room – everything hurt but mostly my head. I sat up against the headboard and tried my damnedest to remember why my head would hurt so bad.

Had I drank too much last night?

I don’t remember going to a bar but maybe I just forgot – however that wouldn’t explain the painful knee – it was definitely swollen.

“Bye Marla,” I called as I passed the nurse’s station. 

“Y/N wait up,” she called.

I slowed and turned to face her, “did I do something wrong?”

“No, hun. You’ve been great,” she assured. “I know you have been sitting with Mr. Jin and Mrs. Gonzalez but if you’re coming in tomorrow can you sit with our new patient, if he’s still with us.”

“Um, sure,” I answered hesitantly, where is he?”

Ok, so I’ve been thinking about this, I just love it so much, and I keep thinking of things…

1) I think she’s an empath, even if she doesn’t know it. The craving for pie after her first interaction with Dean, his pickup in heart rate when she touched him, picking up on Sammy’s name, “I love my volunteer time but it can take a lot out of me some days.” But the most telling thing is that she wants to sit with them, to keep them from feeling the way she did - “that sense of belonging can help a person transition more peacefully and that’s all that can be done for some of my “friends.” Yep - takes a very special kind of person to do that. (and I love how Bobby continues to be a positive influence in the lives of young people – bless him, he’s just amazing!) I love that she decided to work from the hospital to be there in case he woke up, knowing he needed her more than the others, and that she keeps having the dreams of what he was seeing.

2) Even if she doesn’t realize she may be an empath (or something more), I think Marla does - or at least, Marla realizes that there’s something “special” about her, and wants to see if he responds to her. (Nurses intuition is truly a thing - I trust mine completely, and it’s only been wrong twice in 18 years that I know of.) For Marla to ask her to sit with him tomorrow “if he’s still here,” to see if he’d wake if she spoke with him - Marla definitely knows there’s something special about the reader, and was trying to get her in there to work her magic.

3) As a sidebar - I kind of wonder if maybe Marla isn’t something a wee bit supernatural herself? Maybe she knows something about the reader that the reader doesn’t know? And why would she say “if you can smile at her you gotta wake up. Someone needs you and we can’t find them until you wake up.” It had been over a week, and nobody had reported him missing, Police we weren’t looking for him…what indicated that someone was looking for him, or he had family? Or does she mean the reader is looking for him? Either way… (but I digress, maybe it’s just me projecting onto a fellow nurse)

Regardless, the reader has had a werewolf and a demon after her - she’s got to be something special, Bobby has saved her twice now! Or she just has the worse luck? Nah, she ran across Dean Winchester… she has the best damn luck! As she’s leaving the hospital on Saturday, “I got a small squeeze of my hand and as I walked out to my car, I decided to try something when I returned.” What is she going to try? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

OK, I’ll go back to obsessing about this quietly in the background until you post the next chapter. (And man, was I grateful to see “chapter 1” listed, because if it had ended right there…the scream of anguish would have been like ObiWan hearing the cries of the people of Alderaan! I would never dream of demanding an author who is kind enough to share their work for free with all of us, like some of the rude/pushy readers out there do. I would definitely, however, be drafting some sort of graveling/begging/pleading/bribing/supplication to you to beg you to continue the story if your Muses would be kind enough to inspire you. Instead, consider all of the preceding obsessive word vomit my deepest gratitude to you for writing this, because I love it so much!)

Oh good god it's gotten worse

Okay, so I just saw a tiktok saying "hey, ao3 is not tiktok. Do not censor words, especially in the tags." I stg people are losing brain cells. The tiktoker then proceeded to show an example of the tag they saw which was:

"s..cidal ideation"

I don't know who needs to, once again, hear this, but you are stopping the tagging system, and filtration system from working.

People censor words on platforms like tiktok to stop the algorithm from picking up their video and automatically taking it down or restricting it.

A tagging system works so that other people can easily filter the content they do and don't want to see. So if some had "suicidal ideation" in their filtered tags so that they won't see things containing that subject matter, by censoring the word suicidal, you have now stopped the tagging/filtration system from working and now the individual is going to see content that they had made sure to filter out.

Please stop censoring words and/or phrases. Especially in tags. You are literally stopping the system from working and doing its job. Ao3 (and Tumblr) is not tiktok. The tags are there for a reason. Don't censor them.

How to Build a Family -Part 3

Summary: Dean and Sam have slowed down on hunting over the past couple years without Chuck around. Dean has even been thinking about asking (Y/N) the owner of the local bakery out, but life takes some wild turns for him after a werewolf hunt goes sideways. Will Dean take chances and get the family he wants and deserves or will it end in sadness as usual?

Series Warnings: Angst, self-loathing, predatory teacher (in the first chapter), death of family members mentioned, dad!Dean, fluff, sappy squishy love story (eventually), slow burn, the boys dealing with a teen girl (because some hilarity will ensue).

A/N: As always characters and warnings will be added to each chapter as needed. I am going to give the heads up here, when my sister was in school a teacher was caught, fired, and imprisoned for "inappropriate relations with a student" these were 5th graders mind you, thankfully my sis was in another class but it was traumatic for her. Fast forward years later and I taught for a year at the preschool in that district, leaving because I got a job just 9 blocks from my house. That same district is having issues again because of a staff member taking "obscene" pictures and sexting with students. This story is my way of processing the shit that has avalanched through my brain after hearing about this latest incident. So if you are going to be triggered by the first part of this story please don't read it.

Chapter Warnings: There isn't much to warn about in this chapter, Dean is a bit of a jerk to (Y/N). We learn a bit more about how Jaylynn views herself based on what others have said about her (if you ever had a parent question if you were smart enough to attend college or do a certain task this may hit ya in the gut {my mother actually asked me if I was smart enough to get an associates degree, it hurt}.

I drove Jay and I to town and parked in front of The Traveler Café, (Y/N) had opened the place a little over three years ago and I’d been a regular for the past year and a half or so, after discovering the place on accident.

It’s not just a bakery but they also run a small bookshop out of one corner of the building; I ended up in the book store because she had a couple of very rare used books, a bit of lore we needed to know more on led me to meeting the sweetest woman.

She’s nearly a foot shorter than me, has the cutest smile, even though she says she hates it. (Y/N) has the prettiest sparkling eyes, her (YHC) hair has dreadlocks and braids on the underside and she has wavy hair on the top. She once told me she could put her hair down and look professional or dressy.

@siospins2 If I were an old lady and could get away with it I'd take a squeeze of that tush too! Lol.
