Short disclaimer before we get into the topic: I don’t have as much time today as I did when I wrote my post about the Souma-hen cast announcement, I’ll mostly include their names, if they’re new to Hakumyu or not and some pictures. However, I will leave some links below each section so that you can follow their social media or check their past works, and of course you can always check the official Hakumyu website. I may post more info when the pictures with the stage costumes are released.
Keisuke Sannan - Teruma (輝馬)
His time is finally here! Our dear Teruma who has played Sannan since Reimeiroku gets to be the poster boy! The gods know I would pay to have both Ryosuke Mikata and Teruma working together to represent pre and post ochimizu Sannan, but I’m really excited to see Teruma with a leading role and listen to his strong and beautiful voice.

Chizuru Yukimura - Shion Aoki (青木志穏)
New route, new Chizuru, so it’s her first time participating in Hakumyu.
Toshizo Hijikata - Hidetoshi Kubota (久保田秀敏)
Hijikata since Souma-hen.
Souji Okita - Kento Kitamura (北村健人)
Okita since Shinkai Saito-hen.
Hajime Saito - Shoichiro Oomi (大海将一郎)
Saito in Souma-hen and Hakumyu LIVE 3, but he wasn’t there for Shinkai Saito-hen.
Heisuke Todou - Yuta Higuchi (樋口裕太)
Heisuke since Shitan Hijikata-hen.
Shinpachi Nagakura - Ryosuke Koike (小池亮介)
Nagakura since Souma-hen? I was very confused when I researching this because I saw everyone saying he’s the Nagakura in Souma-hen but back when I wrote my Souma-hen cast post the person who was casted was Yuta Kishimoto. I looked for tweets from the official Hakumyu Twitter account that included their names and apparently he was in the original cast announcement, but once the visuals with the stage costumes were released the one mentioned is Ryosuke Koike, so I guess there was a last minute change there.
Sanosuke Harada - Shouta Kawakami (川上将大)
Harada since Souma-hen.
Susumu Yamazaki - Tsukasa Taguchi (田口司)
New to Hakumyu, replaces Taizo Shiina, who had been playing Yamazaki since Shitan Hijikata-hen. I’m looking forward to seeing his performance and I wonder if he will be here for Yamazaki-hen!
Isami Kondou - Taira Imata (井俣太良)
BEST DAD SINCE OKITA HEN KEEPS GOING STRONG. I still cry because Kondou wasn’t in the original Saito-hen and that means he was robbed of having the role in every single Hakumyu.
Chikage Kazama - Yoshihide Sasaki (佐々木喜英)
It’s no secret that Shogo Suzuki is my fave Kazama, but I guess he’s busy with the Moriarty the Patriot musical. Yoshihide Sasaki is the actor who has been casted as Kazama more times after Shogo (and my dearest Viscount of Druitt). Kinda funny that none of his socials are on the Hakumyu official website when he’s pretty much one of the most popular actors/singers participating.
Kyuju Amagiri - Masafumi Yokoyama (横山真史)
Amagiri since Souma-hen.
Kyo Shiranui - Takuma Sueno (末野卓磨)
Shiranui since Shitan Kazama-hen *cries in Yusuke Kashiwagi*.
Kodo Yukimura - Hiroyuki Kawamoto (川本裕之)
Kodo since Harada-hen. There’s -1000 information about this guy in English, no Twitter, no Mydramalist and no anything. There’s a voice actor with the same name that pops up when looking for him, but it isn’t the same person.
Kaoru Nagumo - Yuzuki Hoshimoto (星元裕月)
New to the role because Kaoru hasn’t been on Hakumyu since Hakumyu LIVE.

This is from the Heisuke-hen backstage video, and takes place during one of the curtain calls. My dear Ryosuke Mikata was complaining about everyone wanting to kill his character or something along those lines (my Japanese is really limited 😭) and this happens right after that.
He’s adorable!! 😭 And look at Junya and Shogo joining in to shout “daisuki”!
Teruma and a leek but it’s Sannan instead
I saw this tweet by Teruma omw to work and instantly this idea for a Modern Hakuoki AU drabble?? came to my mind and I started rambling about it to my boyfriend.
It’s late in the evening and Sannan is going back home (I don’t know where he’s coming back from. Maybe he’s a pharmacist. Maybe an university student. Maybe a professor. We’ll never know), carrying a leek in a plastic bag, the same as Teruma in the tweet.
He gets home, cuts the leek in slices, grills them and eats that for dinner. After that, he spends the night reading or investigating until 10 am or so.
Somehow, I haven’t thought about a reason for it, Chizuru visits unexpectedly at 10 am. And she gets mad that the aforementioned leek is the only thing Sannan’s eaten (and that was more than 10 hours ago) and that he has spent the whole night reading.
She scolds him, full mother mode, saying things like “You need to take care of yourself!” and “Having five meals a day is really important!”
After that, she proceeds to invade his kitchen and prepare a copious brunch.
The end.
And the protagonist of “Kay reacts to the Hakuoki anime 10″ is... Keisuke Sannan!
I think this scene (that I don’t remember going like this in the game) is veeeery important to understand Sannan’s character (and his route even though it was added after the anime adaptation aired). We see in his expression that he’s genuinely worried for Chizuru (maybe even feels guilty), didn’t want to lose control to his Fury self, and that he’s scared and truly sorry for it. Also, he manages to regain control by himself, something to be expected from the Shinsengumi’s colonel!
Even though his methods are not really the best, I think that he chose the only solution he saw viable to stop feeling useless and continue fighting for the Shogun with his comrades, and always tried to do what he considered best for everyone.
I’m sad that we mostly get to see the Fury side of him and because of that we really sleep on the fact that he was the Shinsegumi’s colonel for a reason and that he’s been with everyone since the Shiei Hall days.
TL;DR: Thank you Hakuoki anime for giving us this scene/animating it and not leaving it as a 2-seconds thing so we get to see a bit more of Sannan’s struggle!
