Writeblr intro post

So yeah when I first came here I didn't know this was a thing so I've been working on this in the background. Now that it won the poll, I'm making it now!

I'm going to edit this post as I go so it has more links as I make posts about my WIPs!

About Me

  • Hi. Call me Kaylin. It's a pen name but I like it. (Some people are just finding out this isn't my real name and y'all should've read the bio)
  • I'm an education major and do writing on the side and it's a huge passion of mine (hence why I want to teach literacy)
  • Asexual demiromantic sapphic (she/her) - (I am comfortable within reason to talk about my experiences)
  • Love ask games and tag games and generally interacting with others
  • Love reblogging mutuals' writing talking about WIPs!
  • 21+ but my WIPs are YA - I don't usually reblog anything with a mature community label (sorry in advance for mutuals who do), but when I do I mark it 18+ and I try to label content warnings (LET ME KNOW IF I MISSED SOMETHING)
  • I'm an educator by heart so I love giving feedback, know a lot about kids, and of course education psychology and theory
  • I have minor scoliosis, early start of arthritis in my hands, and chronic headaches and migraines attacks in control with medication if anyone needs to ask me about these experiences for writing purposes. I also occasionally use a cane due to knee pain from an injury.

I revised a teensy bit of TSP today. Been focusing on organizing all my notes because they're a mess. But I did manage to slip in an extra line in this scene, so have fun!

From The Secret Portal Part One (Lexi POV)

“I need to introduce you to my new friend. I think y’all would get along.” I waved to Carissa as I walked in, and she came over. “Ah, yes,” said Ash. “We have math together. Clarissa, right?” “No,” Carissa sighed as if she’d gotten that a lot. “No ‘l’.” “Noelle?” Ash repeated, confused. “Correct,” said Carissa. “I swear your name was Clarissa.” “I know Clarissa is more common, but there’s no ‘l’ in my name.” Ash blinked a few times. “Oh, my God, I’m an idiot. Your name is Carissa. I thought you said it was Noelle, as in the name Noelle.” I burst out laughing. Carissa and Ash soon joined. “Anyhow, I’m Ash. It’s nice to meet you, Noelle.” The coaches blew their whistles and the three of us followed the crowd outside, ready to work with the archery equipment. “Is she gonna continue calling me Noelle?” Carissa asked. I laughed again. “Who knows with Ash? But don’t worry, it probably won’t stick long.”

Throwback to something really old

"C'mon I found something cool!" Mindy exclaimed, pulling her brother along.

"Is it the pools of light and dark again? Mindy everyone has known about them since grandma was a kid!"Charlie groaned as they passed the crystals that marked the pools. The tunnels were lit as always by blue tinted crystals and a pure white one marked the entry to the pool of light magic and a black one that looked like the void marked the entry to the pool of dark magic.

"Charlie, look up, and give me a boost!" He did as he was told and saw a crystal that was perfectly between the two shades of the other crystals. Mindy pulled him up and they looked around. There was a pool of grey magic there now a black tattered bag sat by the pool and the numbers 1998 2040 were etched very small on one of the walls. All was well and balanced.

Character Cupcake Game

Rules: if some OCs had cupcakes based on their personalities, who would do each of the following?

CW for brief mentions of an eating disorder

Who'd get a bitter flavor and be teased about it?

Narcissus and Asher. Both are very bitter people - actually for very similar reasons, they both want more attention than they’re being given.

Which two characters would most likely get the same flavor?

I think Nellie and Rhys would both be likely to get something pretty similar. Ambition and Ruthlessness also - they’re more similar than they like to admit.

Which character wouldn't bother to try / act most suspicious of what's happening?

Belladonna would not touch a cupcake - not because she’s suspicious but because she has an eating disorder. I think Ricinus would be pretty suspicious about the whole affair.

Who would be the one in the kitchen, preparing this trick? Why?

If anyone, it would be Nellie. The resident empath baker? It’s a slam dunk. I think she’d think it would be a fun way to help everyone get in touch with themselves more.

Who is asking everyone what they got but hesitates to say theirs?

This is also Belladonna. She doesn’t want to touch a cupcake but she’s nosy as hell. I can also see Goldenrod doing this too.

Is telling everyone because they got their favorite flavor?

Probably Cassie. I’m not 100% sure what she’s get but I’m confident she’d like it. Also Nellie probably.

Rules: if your characters were to eat cupcakes with flavors based on their personalities, respond to the following prompts!

1. Who'd get a bitter flavor and be teased about it?

Carmen

2. Which two characters would most likely get the same flavor?

It would be cute if it was like Robbie and Akash, but they'd be more likely to get complimentary flavors I'd think.
Instead I'll go with Jazlyn and Parker. Something that really pops for both of them.

3. Which character wouldn't bother to try / act most suspicious of what's happening?

Sam. She'd just find it fun.

4. Would be the one in the kitchen, preparing this trick? Why?

Noelle is the cook but she's not the type! Parker is the type but the dude can't cook!
I'm thinking Ash, actually. I think she'd find the idea fun and she'd see it as a little experiment. She'd find out about some Alii Thing that made this possible. It would also line up with her telepathic senses once they enhance.

5. Is asking everyone what they got but hesitates to say theirs?

Akash. He's talkative and friendly but insanely insecure.

6. Is telling everyone because they got their favorite flavor?

Lexi. I know she loves strawberry and probably got it.

His eyes were big and brown. They reminded me of Ashton's cows. I wonder how he was doing? I hadn't visited him for a long time. I should go and see, he'd be- “Adelaide, Mr. Banfield asked you a question,” my mother told me with a reproachful undertone. My eyes found those of the young man in front of me, who smiled shyly. “I asked you what you had in mind to do on a beautiful day like today?” “Shoveling cow manure on my older brother's farm, and you?” His face contorted in the disgust. I smirked, but winced when my mother pinched my side. With a fake laugh, my mother turned to the now slightly disgusted Banfields. “Oh, our little comedienne. Of course she won't be shoveling cow manure. But she would love to go for a walk with you.” She turned to me with a look that was both expectant and threatening. “Wouldn't she?”

I mean, I've teared up at stuff like sad puppy videos, but the last time I actually full on cried was the day my nephew was born.

No, but I adore my nephew!

Not really, no.

OC intro - Beau Bellerose

Have another SOTL intro!

Basics

  • Trans boy he/him
  • At the start of the series, Beau is 14
  • Beau has a small gangly teen frame with pale skin, freckles, short wavy dirty blond hair, and bright blue eyes. He's about 5'0 and needs glasses.
  • He's straight
  • Beau is gifted; he has plant-based powers.
  • Beau is human, just with a mutation.

Character/Personality

  • Beau is someone who often overestimates his abilities with unwavering confidence, but in a way that's more endearing than arrogant. Beau is mainly just very eager and loves being able to show others what he can do. He's a natural in the spotlight; a charisma magnet.
  • Beau has always had a very strong interest in plants. Part of that has to do with his powers, of course, but botany has always been an interest of his. His knowledge is very deep and he uses that knowledge to help with his powers. He's always going to have seeds on him, that's for sure.
  • Beau doesn't care for academics, despite being highly intelligent. It's mainly that he can't sit still in one area at a time, and the traditional setting doesn't fit him. Natural sciences are obviously going to draw his attention, especially when he gets hands-on experience, and he does like sports since that's a release of energy.
  • Beau has a streak of chaos and rebellion in his cheerful demeanor. Mainly Beau is focused on staying stimulated and excited at all times. He'll talk for hours about his given subject and may accidentally talk over everyone else in the process. He means well and is very kind, but he can be very oblivious.

Other Notable Things

  • Usually, Beau is seen in pastels, stripes, and button-ups in fairly simple styles with mild layers.
  • Beau has two biological cousins, Jack and Jill, although they don't live in the same country, and two adult sisters
  • Beau's closest friend ends up being Úrsula, very quiet yet equally passionate about her interests

TSP Update

I've mainly been organizing my notes into something a little more cohesive, since my organizing system has been shit for a while. Thankfully, things are looking up, and I've had many epiphanies just from doing this, or at least some scene ideas.

I hadn't considered pairing up Ash and Parker for a plotline, but given the state the two of them are in during the events of Part Three, I'm just gonna pair them up and see how disastrous the results are. I swear they will make each other's impulses and negative aspects worse. But the shit Part Three that I have drafted needs more for both, especially Parker.

And the Part Two stuff?? I still am not done with this draft of course (nowhere close) but I already have revision ideas.

This is going to be fun! I'm just happy I can work on TSP again.
