ultimately the democrats chose to lose - they would rather lose without a ceasefire than win with a ceasefire, because their party and their donors have legitimate class interests aside from being the party in power. it was made clear that biden's policies were deeply unpopular even among his base, but harris refused to budge on them - or, rather, she budged quite hard to the right, but would not and could not make concessions that would materially harm the position of her party, class, and empire, such as cutting off support for the genocide. trump got 3 million votes less votes this year than he did against biden and still won, because 20 million less people voted for the democrats

And now, they're on the verge of joining the Federalists and the Whigs--16 years after they could have solidified a long-lasting majority. It's time to let the Democrats die on the vine.

After eight years:

Florida is the first one to pull the plug on Democratic Party primaries. So glad I had zero plans on participating long before Marianne even jumped in let alone anyone else.

If we're to follow Mr. Spiva's first argument to its logical conclusion, then there's no reason to participate in a Democratic Party primary ever again.

The update is that the Dems here in NC have done the same thing as BOE ballots only have Biden and "no preference" as options.

Dean Phillips has openly filed a complaint against the state party chair Anderson Clayton who was supposed to be this young progressive but it's clear that Ms. Clayton is taking orders from Jaime Harrison on canceling democracy nationwide.

So, Brandon Johnson fended off Paul Vallas in an upset victory. I honestly didn't think that it'd happen. What it means is that progressives still think that they have a shot of reforming the Democratic Party. A Vallas victory would have slammed the door shut on the party as any chance for police overhaul.

Vallas joins Rick Caruso as someone who was deemed as too much of a bootlicker. That said, I don't think that Eric Adams is an anomaly though.

Perhaps, there's another way of looking at Johnson's victory: As one last gasp for the Bernie movement.

There are already low expectations for the incoming mayor as Hard Lens Media pointed out Johnson will be outnumbered 13-23 with 13 other aldermen yet to decide. If two holdouts join the Vallas-backed faction, then Brandon Johnson will not only have a majority dedicated to sinking his agenda but he has a much higher chance of being a one-term mayor than Lori Lightfoot before his predecessor pissed everyone off

Two whole years. Now, the takeover has been reversed. As the neoliberal-friendly Newsweek points out, progressives taking over the Democratic Party was always going to be a fool's errand--and it didn't help that the governor's mansion was lost due to the neoliberals taking their ball and going home.
