I dunno man. I found out today that a subway sandwich is $14 now. A shitty subway footlong sandwich that isn't actually 12 inches long and is occasionally made with expired ingredients and was never a great option to start with. I ate those in high school because I was broke and at the mall a lot.

There are poke bowls in my city from a local place for $16. Super fresh fish and veg, warm rice, more than I can eat in one sitting, for the price of a sandwich and a drink at america's most mid-tier sandwich shop.

Someone in another post said (paraphrased) you used to be able to get something mediocre for cheap, but now the mediocre things cost as much as the nice things so why would you?

I heard an ad the other day for a "fantastic deal! Four dollar four inch subway snack sandwich!" And like. I'm sure that would seem like a much better deal I'd I wasn't one of the ones who grew up with obnoxious "five dollar foot long subway sandwich" ads.

Yeah with fast food having delusions of grandeur these days it's really made me appreciate the non-chain food places in my area. The other day I went to the local Hawaiian BBQ place and discovered that they have teriyaki chicken AND Beef BBQ musubi for 3.99. and they come in pairs. PAIRS.

I KNOW.

So I immediately bought an order of each and had 4 delicious musubi and a drink for less than a combo at Burger King.

So yeah, show em we don't need their shit sandwiches.

There's some hilarious irony in that by creating an ad campaign so incredibly catchy and memorable that it entered public consciousness (the dream of any marketing team), Subway ensured everyone of a certain age range would view them as the poster child of fast-food price gouging.

I would be as sapped as most people if I pretended that this country ever gave a fuck about me.

But I know the truth: This country has never cared about me. The police got more funding and more militarized over the past four years and the same thing will happen over the next four years, especially in the wake of anti-genocide protests and the battle over dozens of Cop Cities.

The other thing is that many of the same people who voted for Harris either compromised their principles in July or never gave two shits about dead children in Gaza in the first place.

ultimately the democrats chose to lose - they would rather lose without a ceasefire than win with a ceasefire, because their party and their donors have legitimate class interests aside from being the party in power. it was made clear that biden's policies were deeply unpopular even among his base, but harris refused to budge on them - or, rather, she budged quite hard to the right, but would not and could not make concessions that would materially harm the position of her party, class, and empire, such as cutting off support for the genocide. trump got 3 million votes less votes this year than he did against biden and still won, because 20 million less people voted for the democrats

America was going to reward failure no matter who won. It was either going to be rewarding the same failed neoliberal policies of the past and a whole ass genocide, OR it would be rewarding someone whose previous presidency was chaotic, fucked up handling the pandemic, filled the swamp to the brim with ugly people like Eliot Abrams and John Bolton and presided over the largest transfer of wealth in history (plus tax cuts). Americans chose the latter option.

Vote AGAINST the NC Constitutional Amendment!

If you vote in North Carolina, you're going to see this on your ballot. Looks pretty straightforward, right?

But it's a trap placed by the GOP. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Voting "For" this referendum will remove the phrase "and every person who has been naturalized" from this section on voter eligibility in the NC constitution. This could place the future voting rights of about 400,000 naturalized US citizens in the state in jeopardy.

Just a reminder - it's already illegal for non-citizens to vote! There's no evidence that this happens in significant numbers anywhere in the country, and North Carolina has restrictions in place against it happening at all, like the voter ID law that's now in effect.

(The voter ID law disproportionately affects POC, as well as transgender voters, both of whom are more likely to vote Democratic as well as lack the needed ID, but that's another post.)

Voting "Against" on this measure will leave the state constitution unchanged.

Do not let anyone tell you this was not an intentional genocidal project from its very inception, that it was not explicitly racist in its origin, or that the Palestinian people did not know from the very beginning that they were facing a colonial invasion.

There are other resources which are lightly-to-heavily skewed in favor of the reprehensible worm Churchill, which is understandable in the modern sensibilities context; however he was very proud of his words and stood by them, and they should therefore not be redacted in an effort to rehabilitate his name.

  1. The professional managerial class likely got in the ear of Smalls and told him to let bygones be bygones with AOC after she no showed an ALU rally last August
  2. I can say that he's been coopted beyond a shadow of a doubt
  3. The PRO Act was already a bastardized version of the failed card check bill of '09. Finding out that it would have squashed smaller unions tells me that the major union bosses and their Dem Party backers are afraid of independent unions popping up and uniting people across the political spectrum
  4. More evidence that one cannot work within the system without being coopted (Medhurst nailed it!)
  5. Whether it's Chris Smalls or Gabriel Boric, the message anyone who says they're on the left should be getting is that these guys have been deemed "safe" by the mainstream press--which is to say, they have been deradicalized
  6. Unless the dude has a medical condition, Smalls keeping the sunglasses on at all times tells me that he himself has gone the AOC route of becoming a brand
  7. Very sloppy organizing when it comes to other Amazon plants
  8. The celeb stuff could be the establishment's way of distracting Smalls--and it's proving to be very successful at this point
  9. We don't need to wait until 2024 for a general strike. We need it right fucking now!
